Do you believe Charles Spencer that Charles Windsor said to him during a phone call "we'll forget her soon enough."

@Illegally18 Charles Spencer has shared the context. And he has only ever had two phone calls with the king, or prince as he then was.
Do you not think if you were on the phone to Prince Charles for one of the two calls you ever had, you would be paying close attention to what he said?

I think its easy to mis-hear or misunderstand what someone says, then hang up on them, instead of checking. Especially if you're recently bereaved and heartbroken.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 20/09/2026 01:22

I definitely wouldn't remember the exact words of a phone conversation I had with anyone nearly 30 years ago.

Edited

I have been bereaved a number of times. I actually found my senses were enhanced and I took every detail in.
And frankly I fail to understand,

  1. An alternative phrase for, we'll forget her soon enough that could be misheard to this
  2. If the king did not say this, why he did not say he didn't say it. The kings statement nowhere denies he said this phrase.
  3. The kings own statement does not say that Charles Spencer misheard what the king said.

Charles Spencer took notes and told others.

But again, I remember the exact phone conversation I had with my mother when she told me my father had been badly hurt and was going to die. I mean I literally remember word for word.

Maybe you don't have that kind of memory? But don't assume others don't remember traumatic and significant phone calls and conversations.

AFAIK, KC issued a statement along the lines of "recollections may vary". This is especially true in times of grief. Which impacts people in different ways.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 20/09/2026 01:34

Perhaps the king did not deny it because he can't honestly remember whether he said it or not.
Perhaps he really wanted to put out a statement saying 'ffs, it was nearly 30 years ago I have no recollection of what I said that day because guess what, a lot was going on and I very much doubt that you have a clear recollection either' but obviously he couldn't do that.

OneLilacHedgehog · 20/09/2026 01:45

@Sweetbeansandmochi I can believe he can't remember if he said it or not. But in that case he should have just said I can't remember if I said that, but if I did I am sorry, it was a difficult time.

I actually think this would have blown over sooner if he was just honest.

Spencer was an practising alcoholic for most of his life - he still is an alcoholic. I wouldn't believe much if anything an alcoholic said.

This is incorrect. He ditched the bottle in 2025.

It's true that you are never free of it, the urge is always there but the goal is to get sober and keep sober. Which is what he has done.
He should have kudos for that.

I have had numerous experiences of people hearing what they want to hear, from conversations. These are not stupid people either! CS describing then PC as speaking "giddily" or "like a loterry winner" is an interpretation 100%. In the quotes I have seen this is followed by speculation as to why. Again, interpretation. I think his "memory" is riddled by confirmation bias.

Percythepollingstationcat · 20/09/2026 06:46

@OVienna "In the quotes I have seen this is followed by speculation as to why."
I suspect that KC was pleased that he was now free to marry the woman he really wanted in the first place.
Simple.

Housewife2010 · 20/09/2026 07:06

I've read that the conversation was about Charles organising bringing Diana's body back and he said "We'll get her soon enough".

That makes no sense as he had already brought Diana's body back from Paris by the time of the phone call.
Nice try though.

Respectfully if you have had numerous experiences of this, perhaps your communication is not as clear as it could be.
I actually agree the giddily is an interpretation and may or may not be accurate.

Spencer was an practising alcoholic for most of his life - he still is an alcoholic. I wouldn't believe much if anything an alcoholic said.

I doubt he was sober at any time surrounding the death of Diana. A functioning alcoholic who has lied so many times it's hard to know when the truth is there.

He is jealous of KC because in his mind, if Lord Mountbatten hadn't put a stop to it, his Daddy would have swept the future Queen off her feet and Charles Spencer would be king. Of course, that whole scenario is just another lie he tells, like his lie about how he would never profit off Diana's death. And though he might have "won" the battle about offering a place for Diana after her divorce; the truth is, he offered a decent place for her to RENT, then reneged, then offered one of the downtroddened farmhouses for her. For a hefty rental fee, of course. Until she died, he had little to do with Diana, nor she with him, but after her death, he acted like he was with her daily; then decided she should be buried at Althrop so he could control her, even then. Maybe hoard is better than control?

I do not believe a word he says. With his ex-wives, DV accusation, mistresses, children who are NC, his lies, his life in the bottom of a bottle, I'd be more likely to believe Bryan Kohberger.

There are no 'perfect liars' in the world; there are only 'perfect believers' who believe in even the most obvious lies!

I think his memory, along with his brain and liver are affected by his decades of alcohol abuse, and who knows what other drugs.

No.

AliasGrape · 20/09/2026 07:32

No, I don’t believe it for a second.

Im not a particular royalist nor fan of Charles and can believe he’s said/ done many unpleasant things but this doesn’t ring true even slightly.

I would believe Rory Stewart over Spencer any day…we’re talking about a man who sells signed copies of ”the eulogy” for profit at his stately pile here. What a repulsive specimen Soencer is, just ask the estranged kids and the many ex wives.
