Inappropriate photo op for William and catherine

This was at an event this week. But the photo just made me gasp. It looks like the elderly woman is being used as a prop, rather than being treated in a dignified way.

I agree. C has a healthy relationship with the public. The almost medieval, obsessive cult of St Diana was really unhealthy.

I think she’s mainly a low drama person who is actively trying to stay out of the papers when not on an official engagement.

If she wanted attention the interest would be there - anytime there’s something with spark of drama like the Where’s Kate stuff and her cancer announcement it dominates worldwide headlines.

IcedPurple · 18/09/2026 21:25

But you got this photo from a fanatical pro Sussex forum.

It's a horrible place full of extremely unpleasant commentary and nasty insinuations about the Waleses. Why on earth would anyone spend time there, much less use it as a source, as you did?

I see, sounds bad.

No there really isn't this great interest in Catherine. Nearly every article about her also mentions harry and Meghan to attract some interest.
Start a thread on here about Catherine and you will get a few comments on her and then people will start talking about Meghan. Every single time.

Right now I'm interested in you acknowledging that you chose a photo out of context to attack Catherine and William.

It’s fine. She’s well liked and not hounded. Good on her.

She’s always dignified. She doesn’t look for the camera or perform as M used to.

I think this must be what OP finds bland. Well, I’ll take bland then - C’s demeanour is just right for a future queen.

It's amusing how some people seem to think being Princess of Wales is the same as being an influencer desperate for clicks.

Catherine is going to be Queen. She doesn't need fleeting internet 'interest'.

“Gasp”?

are you always so melodramatic or just when the RF is involved?

gishgalloping · 18/09/2026 21:51

This is such a mean-spirited thread from you, OP. That woman has done nothing but have her photo taken with William and Kate. It’s cruel to take the least flattering shot to try and make out she’s being mistreated somehow. You should ask for this to be deleted.

They do need public approval. Queen Elizabeth understood that. And Prince Philip cautioned to never take their position for granted.

She has approval. Something like 70% according to most polls.

I wonder if that explains the rage on certain reddit sub forums?

Public approval is not the same as interest on the internet. Catherine has high popularity ratings in polls. That signals public approval. Not how high you rate as click bait

typo and eta x post

Yes as @IcedPurple she does have public approval. she doesn’t have many going to sites to remark on images such as the one in the op. That’s a good thing.

I think you’re in a bit of a rabbit hole with this stuff, I’m not sure why.

You are being disingenuous. I was replying to a comment stating it didn't matter what the public thought of Catherine as she will be queen anyway.

It does matter what the public think of William and Catherine. They need public approval to maintain their position.

Two of us have explained how public approval is quantified. By ratings polls. Like they do with presidents in the US. Catherine’s approval ratings are high. Which means she has public approval. Got it now?

That was my comment and I didn't say it didn't matter what the public think of her.

I said "She doesn't need fleeting internet 'interest'. And she doesn't. Someone could be the darling of the internet today and be forgotten next year. Happens all the time. Being well liked, which Catherine objectively is, is what counts. She's going to be around a long time after all, long after any number of people 'breaking the internet' are long forgotten. If that's 'bland', so be it.

Speaking of 'disingenuous', are you going to admit that posting a photo from a nasty subreddit in the hope of getting others gasping at the Waleses was a really bad idea? Have you considered asking for the thread to be deleted?

I agree. It’s shameful of OP and shows them in a bad light.

OP hasn’t acknowledged this yet.

RobinStrike · 18/09/2026 22:07

Well this thread took a turn. First you were gasping at an unfortunate photo and claiming the woman didn’t look the same as in the others in the photo op, and then moved on to attack colonialist attitudes on a royal tour and how bland you find Kate ! So the photo was really just a ruse to attack the PPOW. None of your other points have anything to do with the photo. This is a very odd thread, OP

@OneLilacHedgehog - you are a mere amateur by simply gasping, surely your reaction should have been worthy of a visit to the Sistine Chapel 😂. This thread has been hilarious.

Yes I was reading about Beyoncé’s unflattering Superbowel photos as I looked up the Streisand effect and it came up. It happens.

And I know it’s obviously a typo, but this did make me laugh - poor Beyoncé 😂

ABitFab · 18/09/2026 22:27

Honestly OP, I’d file this post alongside your one about how it was well documented that W+H were at school when Diana died. Maybe under E for Embarrassing.
Do keep trying though, very entertaining for the rest of us.

Ha, I’d strongly suspect that the OP (or AI) got themselves muddled up with Harry’s “truth” from his literary masterpiece - that he was alone, at school, when he received the news that the Queen Mother had died. Except the rest of the world saw that he was on a ski slope at the time.

Prince William has refused to go on tours the government wanted him to go on.
www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/prince-william-dodges-another-foreign-37095324

During his wife's cancer treatment. Come on.
Plus, the word "seemingly" is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Apply some critical thinking here.
