Inappropriate photo op for William and catherine

This was at an event this week. But the photo just made me gasp. It looks like the elderly woman is being used as a prop, rather than being treated in a dignified way.

Honestly the other photos look like a different woman. Is it really the same woman?

Well it’s not very likely to be another identical 95 year old lady holding William’s hand and wearing that exact flowery coat…

Bitsostuff · 18/09/2026 19:25

Lol, so many legitimate reasons to criticise the institution of monarchy and you come up with this.

You know what - if the OP, who I believe prides themselves on “owning” their mistakes - had just said - oh yeah you’re right, I saw this photo on Reddit but I can see now it’s not actually the one that was used and there’s nothing weird going on - the thread would have died, despite the naked cynicism and meanspiritedness of the OP. But instead they doubled down, trying to suggest that there were two elderly women in the same place at the same time, with the same hair and face, wearing the same coat, both of whom had their photo taken with the PPoW. And then ran away. So of course people are going to take the piss. Especially when there are tons of other ridiculous posts by the same person across the boards today. And others jumping in to suggest that it’s crass to be in a photo with someone turning their head, they shouldn’t have allowed it, and that their smiles are terrifying - are also likely to have the piss taken. Welcome to the internet.

You know if all those posters who do the same with pictures of other royals owned up that they are selecting certain pictures or stills from videos to suit their narrative instead of carrying on and doubling down

How many of those photos have a named 95 year old woman front and centre in them?

damnatiomemoriae · 18/09/2026 19:48

And if you are perhaps alluding to unflattering photos of Harry and Meghan, they’re not so much royal but Sussex public figures now…

estrogone · 18/09/2026 19:48

You never had a dodgy pic taken when you were least expecting it.

Critical thinking = other pics are great, this one is not. Is the person in the photo a royal hostage... mmm. Probs unlikely. More likely its just a bad picture.

Made you gasp? Give over.

I find it ridiculous that on a thread like this, supporters of W&K who accuse their critics of being 'mean' feel free to rubbish & insult others. To the extent of stalking the OP across the site, directly insulting both posters and other members of the RF they don't like so much. Some posts have even been none too respectful of the lady herself.

I would disagree that W&K 'do a great job'; many of us are aware that they do the barest minimum and are massively, undeservedly rewarded for it.

But I accept that it is fighting a losing battle for certain posters to even concede that their beloved RF members are capable of putting a foot wrong at times.

Stalking???
It is an unusual name which stood out to
me on some rather particular posts from a few days ago and I remember that.
This is not stalking it is simply being reasonably observant and as for disrespect well that is mainly from the OP to the older lady in the photo.

SpidersAreShitheads · 18/09/2026 19:54

I understand people who fundamentally object to the monarchy. It's not a view that I share, but there are many valid arguments that can be put forward.

What really pisses me off is when certain posters with an agenda post absolute shit in a desperate attempt to score points. And I apply that equally to both sides of an argument, including anyone who shares the same views as me.

When viewed in context with the many other photos of the same occasion, this is just so ridiculous it defies words. And those PP backing up OP with even more ludicrous suggestions are just as bad.

If I'd clocked who the OP as, I wouldn't have bothered because they never engaged in good faith.

You don't have to like the monarchy. You don't have to like William and Catherine. But these kinds of posts really are juvenile. If you have to invent stuff or contort reality to try and make a point, you've already lost the argument.

SurferRona · 18/09/2026 19:57

Adding the photo for skimmers. Jenny looks amazing at 95 years of age 🙌

Unfortunate choice of a photo in a thread opportunity, OP.

But really, mean and nasty. Hope you are ashamed as you should be.

Looks like you are using the elderly lady to get a dig in about W&K. Not a good look OP.

This reminds me of the way some people twisted and manipulated the narrative around the Jamaican tour. The “notorious “ (not really though) photo of W& C and the children through the wire fence has been used by anti-monarchists and the SS to claim that they were channelling a colonial narrative when In fact what happened was they were leaving a venue having finished the engagement and saw potted lots of schoolchildren poking their hands through the fence. W & C went over to talk to them and shake hands through the fence..

How this sweet and innocent incident could have been twisted to be negative as it has been by malicious people is rather depressing. The couple were under the direction of the Jamaican govt so it was hardly their choice to “ pen” the children behind that fence - but OMG - the spiteful mythology which has been created around it is awful.

OP - are you trying to do the same thing here? If so, shame on you.

I don’t get the hate for William and Catherine, I really don’t.

I know I'm well behind, but the reason is that William & Catherine are incredibly popular with the GBP and globally. Diana heyday levels of popular.

For Harry and Meghan fans and Republicans - for different reasons - that's the reason for the OTT criticism.

Come on! William and Catherine were carried in chairs by black people and then stood up on a jeep inspecting black troops. It was all colonial images. And then catherine flinched when a black minister, a woman touched her.
There were many incidents that led to the moniker the colonialist tour. They were totally tone deaf.

You see I think Catherine is just bland. And the sad reason is because that is what the palace want.
Catherine has favourable ratings but she is not loved like Diana was.

Maybe she doesn't want that level of adulation and intrusion. She's a very private person.

Not a great idea to become queen if you are a very private person.

No, they were not "carried in chairs by black people" in Jamaica. You are mistaken.
Perhaps you are thinking of the trip to Tuvalu where it is traditional for guests of honour to be carried in sedan chairs as part of the celebrations? That's what happened to W&K.

Perhaps she understands, like most of us, that it's possible to do a job and have privacy, and not necessary to share private details of our lives, or those of our children.
Privacy is very important

There is probably a photo of someone who looks exactly like them, even down to wearing the same coat, being carried around in Jamaica 😜

Does it matter? I’m sure the ‘love’ for Diana had downsides. Paparazzi hounding her on the street etc

I did not mention Jamaica at all, I simply said it was part of that tour, which it was.
If they had any sense they would look at the optics. Incident after incident that clearly looked colonialist. You can get away with one on a tour, but they just kept coming.
