Royal row between King Charles and Earl Spencer

Buckingham Palace said they don't usually comment but they can't stay silent. Apparently Prince Charles said at the time of Diana's death rest assured we'll forget her soon enough. Which is pretty horrendous. Charles has more or less said grief had clouded Earl Spencer's judgement and memory.

I don't know why he has waited nearly 30 years to come out with this.

Which one?
The one he cheated on whilst pregnant.
The one he dumped shortly after she had given birth?
The one he dumped over text?

Yes, not only did Charles Spencer cheat on his first wife when she was pregnant, he also described her as being "both thick and thin" in a speech he gave at his birthday party when she was suffering from anorexia, and was alleged to have cheated on her multiple times when she was in a clinic being treated for anorexia. He's not a man I would trust as far as I could throw him, and he clearly has a malicious and cruel streak.

Odd though it is, though, the system means that occasionally there are things the RF can and do do which are really helpful. I remember a case where six Air Force officers were accused of sabotaging planes in Zimbabwe when Mugabe was president. The evidence against them was extremely suspect and they were acquitted after a long time being held in custody awaiting trial. However, they were immediate rearrested.

The UK quietly let it be known that if they remained in custody a planned visit by the then Prince Charles would be cancelled. Suddenly, Mugabe decided the officers were innocent after all and released them.

So we need them because they were useful in 1982 once, 44 years ago?

I think they are more useful now than they have been for ages tbh because they do all the sucking up to Trump so our PMs don’t have to.

(I’m a lifelong republican really but still….)

Remember it wasn't just one pen. And, again, it is the rude gesturing towards aides and the visible expression of temper tantrum

King Charles gesturing during his proclamation signing goes viral

@Noodledog we know you can't stand earl Spencer. You have continuously posted about him negatively.
I get that you trust king Charles the close friend of three nonces over earl Spencer who had four not good marriages which he puts down to his childhood sexual abuse.

Personally like some other posters I am tired of every time someone external reveals something negative a senior royal has said, the royals paint them as confused, with a poor memory, or just crazy. Every single time.

We are supposed to believe the senior royals never ever say anything wrong, but are surrounded by confused people with a poor memory.

They suck up to trump well. But it doesn't work. Sucking up to trump achieves nothing in the long term. Trump just continues to hate on Britain and make all kind of threats, in spite of their sucking up.

Although to be fair to CS, his book hasn't actually been published yet so perhaps it will be an honest look at what happened, including the negatives of his own behaviour (and Diana's). I did actually read one of his history books and thought it was good, so maybe this will be.

I'm not sure the Middletons should be held up as not putting a foot wrong

Their company went bust owing £2.60million, a lot to small suppliers, £700K to HMRC and they had a COVID payout. So I am not sure that is not putting a foot wrong

They managed to move to a £5million property after Kate's marriage but couldn't pay those they owed

Wasn't that primarily due to Covid though, which their company would have been particularly affected by because it was based around people getting together in social gatherings and social gatherings were banned? Tens of thousands of companies in the UK were ruined by Covid and were unable to pay their suppliers. Did all those companies put a foot wrong?

wanderingfreely · 17/09/2026 17:00

We'll never know who said what to whom. Given the very heightened emotions that arise after any bereavement, never mind a sudden death of a young woman, in the public eye and where there has been conflict, anything could have been said.

None of that really matters. I don't care for either Charles Spencer or the RF, but the only person who will gain from this now is CS by making a few quid. It's tawdry and completely disrespectful to William, Harry and particularly George who has just gone into boarding school and will need supported through all this.

They were obviously ordering supplies when it was clear they could never pay them.

You are right of course.

So. Who is up for discussing Doria?

I didn't bring up the Middletons. Someone else did. I was answering their post.
Maybe challenge the poster who originally said they have never put a foot wrong

Yes, I get what you are saying, but I'm not sure it makes it all right. The flip side of doing secret deals behind closed doors is of course that you get people pulling strings to protect the likes of Andrew. I'd rather have elected, accountable heads of state. I used to like the RF, but too much has been revealed now about how manipulative the whole thing is behind the scenes. I dont like the public constantly being made to believe things that arent true just to protect members of a family. I think it's insulting.

I don't know if Charles made those comments or not. It seems unlikely, but it is possible. And we don't really know who he is when the cameras are switched off.

But whether he made that comment or not, I have to question the motivations of an uncle who would share that kind of thing in public with so very little care for the feelings of his nephews.

There are some things which are better not aired in public, and this is one of them. Diana's sons should not have to deal with these headlines. Some matters should be discussed in private or not at all. But Earl Spencer has a book to sell, and it seems that he has put that above any respect for the feelings of his dead sister's children.

And after 30 years! Only Charles Spencer benefits from this. The rest, KC, William, Harry get hurt. Whats the point? So much bitterness and greed it feels like. And this is just the start. The book isnt even out yet.

Ah you couldnt pay me enough to be a royal. If they have learned anything in these last 6 years is that everyone for themselves and God for all of them. No one to be trusted. And there is Angela Kelly's book to come. KC's heart cant be holding very well. So so sad

Weird claim that they were ordering loads of stock they knew they would never be able to use. Also weird that any company they would have been ordering from wasn't closed itself in the middle of Covid.

Party Pieces went into administration and was then bought out. Presumably some of their debts would have been paid during those processes. Their former stockists may also have entered into new agreements with the new owner.

Again, this was nothing different than what unfortunately happened to 10s of 1000s of companies in the UK due to Covid.

I would think that debts of 2.60million cannot be all down to COVID especially when they were bailed out to the tune of £220,000 in the form of a COVID loan

A tiny fraction were paid back

No the firm that bought party pieces did not take on the debt..
Buying a company in this way is usually a criminal offence as it is clearly a way to avoid bankruptcy.

Lots of small suppliers gave interviews that carol asked them for supplies even though they hadn't paid for previous orders, promising you know I'm good for the money. They believed her because of the close royal link.

Charles wrote a book, no statmeent needed to tell him his recollections may vary or be clouded.

Interesting they decide this is the moment to push out a statment, there have been many other situations where a response would have been better to put out.

I imagine that statement (said or not, I cannot vouch either way) is something Charles wouldnt want his children and grandchildren to hear.

I just really wonder why write this for public consumption? Why? Surely it will heart his nephews who I thought he loved? Its just so sad and it would be sad if they were not rich and spoilt too.

I agree where you say they paint the other person as crazy. Character assassination is their game. Like how they painted Virginia as a liar...but ooppssss and no apology made.

AtIusvue · 17/09/2026 17:17

Now Charles Spencer saying that KC sounded elated hours after Diana’s death.

Not that I believe that it’s true….but who does this serve? How can he say such things for William n Harry to have to hear.

It’s really awful behaviour by CS, just to get a bit of dosh

AtIusvue · 17/09/2026 17:17

Elated like a lottery winner CS says

They literally drove Virginia giuffre to her death, along with some royal supporters on social media. All saying she was crazy, lying about her, saying she was a prostitute and lots of other awful lies.
I will never forgive the royal family or some royal supporters for doing this and defending Andrew and by extension Epstein. Unforgivable.

I simply don't believe that the father of two bereaved young sons would be "elated" hours after her death, even if he absolutely hated her.

Banjas · 17/09/2026 16:48

I fully agree with you.
Their two sons in law, Prince William and James Matthews could easily have coughed up a few bob. Or they could have sold the multi million pound house.
The Middletons then seen swanning it in the Wimbledon and Ascot VIP areas while those hard working small suppliers and HMRC had to suck it up.
And yes I know they sold the company for a pittance and the debts went with it.

But morally it was disgusting imo.
I wonder did their employees get redundancy payments ?

Do you understand how a Limited company works?
