Fifty years ago she was only about fifteen!

Last July was 45 years since Charles and Diana were married, so not far off.

They’re pure mental 🤯
She’s been dead thirty years.

It's very strange, but there is a sort of cultish following of her, I've seen it on here at times. They get very intense.

That sounds about right

I really don't think there's much interest in Diana anymore. All the documentaries have been done and tbh, all very biased. An amazing mother, shat on by RF, humanitarian, etc

The truth is very different. She was a very hands off mother. Was very fond of other women's husbands and cared very little about their feelings.

What's interesting is, her most important role, mother to future king - he never pays tribute to her, which I find very odd.

Only her youngest son and his ghoul of a wife trying to merch off her

I wonder if H wanted to film (for his documentary) at the Diana awards & dinner. And maybe they said no we'd rather cancel than be used like that.

Similar to the Sentebale kerfuffle when the polo ground had to be changed, at great expense to Sentebale, because H wanted footage for his Polo thing but the original polo ground was only allowing him there for charitable, not commercial, reasons.

I wonder if H wanted to film (for his documentary) at the Diana awards & dinner. This is what I wondered too.

It’s of course pure speculation, but participating in such a documentary would be highly controversial. I can imagine some of the Spencers and perhaps Fergie being willing to take part, although I think involving her would be a bad idea. They could also easily use AI generated scenes to fill in any gaps and tell “their truth.”

I don’t think William would be at all comfortable with a project like this. Diana isn’t really someone people talk about in the same way anymore, and bringing everything back up in a tasteless or insensitive manner could be hurtful and offensive to William and his children (as well as A & L).

bluegreygreen · 04/09/2026 22:40

I think ten years ago there wouldn't have been that much interest in another Diana documentary.

There still probably isn't among most of the population, but there are two new audiences (or viewerships?):

-People who have watched The Crown. There are some people who do not realise just how inaccurate the series was, and who take it as a historical retelling of events. To be fair, Netflix only put the 'fictional dramatization' disclaimer on the programme site once it reached series 5.

-People who are invested in supporting Harry and Meghan, and who see supporting Harry as an extension of supporting Diana. For some, there is an overlap with the first group, and it can be quite interesting, if a little scary, to look at their fixed beliefs about past events or how the monarchy works. (I'm referring mainly to certain areas of Reddit.)

From memory didn’t H&Ms Netflix series use clips from the Martin Bashir interview? Happy to be corrected.

You are correct!

Oh dear, i would rather have my own memories of the Diana years, and not another documentry of opinions. I wouldnt watch it. Surely H remembers her as his dm, so it would be hugely biased and recollections may vary.

It does sound more like a winter evening home project activity for him. Bit of looking at old pics with the dc. Sharing personal memories. Remenbering the pre M days when he had friends, a loving best friend of a brother. That to me is the biggest acheivement C & D ever did for their sons. What a disappointment W & H are so estranged, but H & M must carry the can for that. Such a waste. H only friend being M must be so isolating.

On the subject of h saying he was a feminist to Gloria, i though he was being tongue in cheek. Surely no one believed him! No wonder his sense of humour has shrivelled and died.

Beesandhoney123 · 04/09/2026 23:59

Ooh- vaguely off topic apologies BUT if i could have an armed guard who looked like Harrison Ford, I think i might make a giant fuss to ensure he was hired!

So, whats Markus doing now? Perhaps he has a new career in security. Think there might be a job in Cotswolds if so...:)

Yes, they did.

Netflix didn't ask permission from the BBC.

https://archive.is/c1DBV

Oh well done, bluegreygreen; I honestly couldn't remember either way, and there you've gone and found it Flowers

Burrell and the BBC are not quite the same as Diana's own son

Spot on, @BunnyBunbunbun, though there's an argument to be made that Harry doing "it" would be even worse, at least to a family who'd prefer ( understandably this time) to keep this kind of thing private

However since we don't yet know if there's any truth in "it" I'll wait and see

YetiAnotherNC · 05/09/2026 06:59

Apologies if I missed it but do we know who paid up all the legal fees? It was widely reported that there was a deadline to pay along with speculation that Elton would pay the majority, but then it all went quiet!

Astonished the dinner is cancelled; the invitations only went out very recently!

The Diana dinner . Allegedly the organisers didn’t want M there .
Like all Blinds it may it not be true but Enty is often right !

Man, @jeffgoldblum I must have watched that about 10 times before finally dragging my gaze away to say thank you

Not sure I agree @PoppysAunt. I’m one of those who really dislikes the way in which Charles tried to rehabilitate Camilla by vilifying Diana after her death.

I’ll happily discuss that because I’m old enough to remember what actually happened. She was far from perfect but she was badly used by C and C. I don’t consider that cultish following but more a wish not to see history rewritten.

If we don’t forget the things HAM did the same goes for C and C.

However that doesn’t translate into watching the same old news and images
rehashed and discussed for entertainment. I would be very surprised if there’s any new content of real interest. Everyone who wants to speak out has done so.

MaturingCheeseball · 05/09/2026 08:00

@jeffgoldblum very nice, but for me the protection of HF in Witness would be…. very nice; “Don’t know much about history, don’t know much trigonometreeee…”

Yes, wherever M is, Markus can be found lurking behind. He was at the Disneyland trip, if I remember rightly. I bet he’s ensconced in Soho Farmhouse at this very moment. He’s the one person who never gets dumped (even Doria appears to be off the Christmas card list).

I am not talking about C&C.
I am talking about some people who, for whatever reason, elevate Diana to quasi Martyr status. She was a flawed woman, and that's ok.
That, and that only, was my point.

In fairness I'm pretty sure that was Mark Bolland and the pal Nicholas Soames rather than Charles himself, @Dontevenlookatme, but I doubt they'd have said what they did without his approval

The advantage of course is that he could pretend he "didn't know" - something that's used too often on his behalf for my taste

I don't think Diana was villified after her death. That final summer, when she was on the yacht with Dodi etc, she came in for some strong criticism and judgement on her parenting, and general behaviour, from many papers and commentators.
It only changed with her tragic death. The extraordinary reaction to which, many of us remember, and I don't think it was healthy.

CoffeeCantata · 05/09/2026 08:23

The Diana worship by Meghan fans on Celebitchy is fascinating. They believe that Diana would have just loved Meghan (because Meghan is so like Diana) and hated 'Kate' because she's such a bitch 🙄

They fantasise about Diana hitting it off with Doria and both grandmothers playing in the Montecito garden with Archie and Lili.

Who knows? None of us know. But Diana never saw her sons grow to the age where they had girlfriends and wives, and for all we know she may have got on well with them. But her record wasn't good where other women were closely involved with her sons. Her behaviour towards Barbara Barnes and later Tiggy Legge-Bourke was awful.

I think the pp was right to say that, while most of us would wish Diana to rest in peace, there are 2 demographics which have (sort of) adopted her as a secular saint: the Camilla/Charles haters, who just won't let it go and refuse to believe that Diana ever put a foot wrong, and the new, younger Meghan fans who ignore the fact that Diana loved both her sons (they hate William) and see Meghan as some kind of reincarnation of her.

It's really creepy!

PoppysAunt · 05/09/2026 08:28

I think you make very good points, @CoffeeCantata.
My point wasn't to raise the whys and the wherefores of the marriage or the life of Diana, but more to commentate on the people who have elevated her to some sort of innocent saint.
Their comments on some of these threads I've found extraordinary and bewildering.
You've explained it well in terms of the response to Harry and Meghan. We none of us know what her response would have been, which is why all the projection by them is absurd.

SheinSussex · 05/09/2026 08:28

Hello campers.

I remember the media frenzy 29 years ago and wondering how it was going to end as it was escalating so much. We don’t need another documentary from anyone.
