I would be pleased to be given some examples as well. My memory tells me that Charles walked on eggshells after Diana's death, presumably to protect and comfort his sons as much as anything. You'd have to be some kind of a Class A knob to vilify the mother of your children after such a tragedy.

Yes, quite. I was also wondering about the "vilification". Diana seemed to have been raised to sainthood in some quarters. I never had much time for KC in the past, and certainly don't think he's above criticism or reproach now,, but I would find that accusation hard to believe. I do believe he used PR to make Camilla acceptable. Trashing Diana?
Unless clear evidence is produced, of course

I have not been disrespectful of other opinions. I have merely given my own. I have been insistantly told that mine is wrong this morning. Since having a critical opinion of Charles is clearly not welcome, I will bow out as I don't want to spoil your discussion.

Everyone here has strong feelings and opinions. We all disagree at times. If you have personally a negative opinion of KC, well, you surely won’t be alone here. But when you say he’s unpopular - well, it’s provably not true based on the polls. Someone is bound to say so.

You should stick around!

???? I’m confused! How is my comment snide? , I was being truthful and sharing my personal opinion.

PR workings are fascinating, it's certainly worked for Camilla, although she was clever and sensitive enough to know what to do. The Sussex PR I've found a bit confusing at the moment. We've commented before that H&M don't understand how security works, they don't seem to understand how KC works either, which is part of the problem. They don't seem to understand his role as HoS, and Harry seems to think he has the powers of a tribal chieftain! It's most peculiar. We'll see what emerges this week.
At least the children are being allowed privacy.

This is what I remember, too

I hate the Sandringham Walk....it's as if they're in a zoo. It's the one thing that I think W & K have gotten wrong with the kids. Why would you subject your children to that strange set up?!

I can't imagine M would want her children to be part of it. Even for the royal adjacency.

I agree, I really dislike it. Originally it was just a walk to church and some people came to line the route, but it's definitely changed into something else.

I can understand why some local people would go along to greet the Royals but I've never understood why people travel miles, even book into local hotels, just to be there!

I follow the RF avidly but I wouldn't give up my Christmas Day to stand for hours for a fairly quick glimpse of them

bluegreygreen · Yesterday 12:06

There are (and consistently have been) several opinions on the threads about Charles.

Re Tom Sykes' suggestion that he should pay for the Sussexes' security -

TS has historically been very poor at reporting on the security issues. At least this time he is suggesting that the King should pay for private security, not police security (not that I agree with him).
He has previously suggested that RAVEC was capable of being involved in awarding IPP status.

damnatiomemoriae · Yesterday 12:07

I don’t think KC lied.

I do think he will not be hugely forthcoming about H&M - simply because he is torn between his role of King (knowing that H&M are about as popular as rain on a picnic) and his role as father.

His love for his boys was demonstrated after Diana’s death more than ever. I can’t recall anyone from the RF vilifying Diana and cannot think of any reason why anyone would do that to a child who had just lost their mother.

I too am old enough to remember what happened and that didn’t.

Someone mentioned that M might prefer to frequent the soho establishments - not being of the horsey set?

I’m wondering if she would be a hostess or working in some capacity for certain events. I also would imagine their clientele would prefer discretion and decorum if not demand it.
I’m not sure she would qualify - unless of course she was deeply involved in some way and could demonstrate said discretion?

It's a strange thing, isn't it?.

Yes, as we said before, he seems quite badly informed, doesn't he?

I agree. I think something needs to be done to bring it under control. I hate the way people fawn over the children.

It takes a while to pack up a house so if Harry saw Charles in August and didn't say anything then he has been as deceptive as ever.

It would take you and me time to pack up a house, but i doubt that they have.

They only need to bring the most personal items. There will be staff/ contractors to pack and move any other items they want, but they are hardly going to bother to transport e.g. furniture, pots and pans.

HNW individuals move at short notice when the impulse takes them, and they have staff and specialist firms that take care of practicalities.

damnatiomemoriae · Yesterday 12:11

I also think that M (H would just do as he was told) would want the children to be at the penguin parade that is the Sandringham walk.

Especially if it were the children’s first appearance.

All about the headlines and taking the shine from others. What couldn’t be to love for them.

I don’t think it will happen though because M&H wouldn’t be welcome.

Yes, but she had to make sure and bring all the photos she has of anyone who might potentially die?

I agree, all those strangers pawing the children is uncomfortable to watch.

damnatiomemoriae · Yesterday 12:16

I also don’t think they’ll try to steal the headlines from King Harald’s funeral.

With the so-called links with JE and various spouses? I don’t think it would do to rock the boat.

Zara also manages to cash in on her royal-adjacent position without upsetting the family. Deals with all sorts of companies. Harry could learn a lot.

Then again she's not titled. Maybe that's the crucial difference.

Btw, I still haven't figured out where Burrell said Diana took coke??

Edited

Easier for Zara as she's not titled and is not a working royal

HAM's problem is that they expected to keep everything - titles, senior royal status, all the privileges AND make their money by selling the family's privacy for cash to Oprah, Netflix etc etc

I've been to a US President inauguration (I am a UK citizen), i have also been to the Paris Bastille Day parade. Not because I particularly supported that specific President, or revolutionary France, but because I happened to be working nearby and thought it would be interesting.

Although with both of those occasions there were also lots of peripheral events to see/ join and a bit of a party atmosphere.

So.i can understand going to the Sandringham Xmas day churchvwalk if you are nearby. It's a bit like fitting in watching the Changing of the Guard while on a trip to London.

Because that’s literally the only opportunity for her DC to get public royal adjacency as H&M are non WRF …. so no balcony or carriage opportunities for A&L. How else will they achieve this without a public opportunity to be photographed with The King (no doubt MM will have instructed them to grab / grasp Grandpapas hand to maximise the grift).

I’m in two minds about it honestly… I don’t give it much thought and when I do my opinion swings from one side to another! 🤣
