while his dad wonders around glens talking to the heather.

Or alternatively, while the Head of State hosts the Prime Minister in the middle of several crises.

Let's not get carried away.

Yes. I think perhaps some people do not understand the role of the Head of State.

AustenitesUnite · Yesterday 10:25

Following on from H's recent shenanigans when he was offered accommodation at Buckingham Palace, then, by the time he eventually announced that he would stay there, BP said his reply was too late . . . .

So it could be that when H met KC at Highgrove, KC said they could stay at Highgrove. No further discussion occurred until the Sunday when PH suddenly said yes they were coming to stay there.

So KC would therefore have been correct in his statement that he didn't know they were coming until the Sunday before the Sussexes statement was released

Oh goodness, even more reason for Sussex shenanigans that day!

I understand it perfectly well, thank you. It’s these sorts of patronising comments that put people off posting here, even if they are no fans of the Sussexes. Charles has time and time again allowed his family squabbles and personal interests to spill into the public sphere, compromise the crown and bring it into disrepute. Doing his actual job does not negate all the other things going on and making the headlines.

It is not patronising. It is demonstrable from many posters.
Post on here, don't post on here, but it's a discussion and some people are going to disagree. Entering into a discussion in which people may disagree puts you off, so be it. No-one has been rude or personal.

My understanding is that Highgrove hosts a lot of events, it allows visitors and has a shop. It really isn't suitable for Harry to live there, even if he was offered it which I very much doubt. It isn't like the farms on the Sandringham estate which are set up for tenancy.

I really do think that Charles wasn't given notice of their return. It is far more consistent with their prior arrangements than believing that they were considerate, thought ahead and had discussions before they moved.

All things considered, Meghan is never going to settle in the UK. She seems highly sensitive to feeling inferior or excluded, and these upper social circles are intensely cut throat. There will be posh mummies who are absolute queens of relational aggression and ruthless competition when it comes to their children and families. As an American, she will never quite fit in or have the same social currency. Even if she is included at times out of politeness, she will always feel on the outside. She has shown to not be trustworthy so they won't trust her.

And not being in with the Waleses and their children will be a major barrier for anyone wanting to rub shoulders with the real royals. All of this will make it highly unlikely for Meghan to feel at home in the Cotswolds.

I agree. She will be excluded not just from the top tier but also from the lower tiers of aristos and any social wannabees who will not want to be seen with her and risk their reputation. Shes basically left with D list celebs who will want to USE her click bait / click rage power to elevate their own tawdry SM numbers. She might find D listers standing on her neck on their way up.

Charles has every reason to lie. He’s already not popular. Harry returning is a highly unpopular move. His dad guilt compromises his obligations to protect the crown and the legacy he’s leaving for his heir, who seems to be taking all the flack at the moment, while his dad wonders around glens talking to the heather. So he’s using his flying monkeys in the media to claim it’s nothing to do with him, when it is everything to do with him. And if he truly didn’t know - if he opened the door to them and couldn’t see what was coming as a result - then he’s a bigger fool than I ever thought he was.

According to the July Yougov, Britons are twice as likely to have a positive opinion of King Charles than a negative one (62% vs 31%).

Why do you think he's not popular?

When did she try cocaine? I can’t find anything on Google.

I asked AI if Diana had ever taken cocaine and the information I received was that although Dody was a regular user there is no evidence to be found that Diane ever used it in fact Paul Burrell categorically denied any

I agree that Meghan’s manor will be the Soho House crowd. That’s her natural habitat, not the horsey crowd. Harry of course will be trying his level best to pick up again with Ponky and Butty and Bonzo et al.

I too think that Charles was blindsided; the children going to school here was not assumed to be the following week! Perhaps there was even a “If you ever need a place to stay, Dear Boy, do come here,” never imagining that the cargo plane was revving on the California tarmac as they spoke. Charles may have been the old victim of the polite (non)offer of “If you’re ever passing…” which was taken up 🫣

So basically they are accepting that the only things that have worked are the ones they were given as working royals. 6 years of nothing so they are back to pretend to be royal again. So much for not needing royal adjacency! This paragraph though is the important one.

"Sources close to the King have emphasised that while he “naturally welcomes” the opportunity to see more of the Sussexes “in a private and personal capacity”, he is “clear” there will be no change to their status as private individuals and non-working members of the royal family."

I think this is the most important nugget in this report. KC3 ‘quote’ has already been said a few weeks ago - obviously they are on ‘rinse and repeat’

Those close to the Sussexes say they accept that their return to the UK will not herald a return to events like Trooping the Colour or the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph. Sources close to Harry, who served two tours of Afghanistan during a ten-year military career, say he may choose to publicly mark Remembrance Sunday with one of his military charities. “He will do whatever they want

This tells me that PH has accepted the boundaries of WRF - so no Remembrance Sunday or Trooping - but it still leaves The Christmas Sandringham Walk and Auntie Kates Christmas Concert (where every and any RF member working or not and their children are invited) for the taking - that will be enough for H&M’s adjacency objectives and enmeshing their DCs in royal glitter.

Not sure I agree @PoppysAunt. I’m one of those who really dislikes the way in which Charles tried to rehabilitate Camilla by vilifying Diana after her death.

I’ll happily discuss that because I’m old enough to remember what actually happened. She was far from perfect but she was badly used by C and C. I don’t consider that cultish following but more a wish not to see history rewritten.

If we don’t forget the things HAM did the same goes for C and C.

However that doesn’t translate into watching the same old news and images
rehashed and discussed for entertainment. I would be very surprised if there’s any new content of real interest. Everyone who wants to speak out has done so.

How fid Charles attempt to villify Diana after her death? Do you have any examples, pease?

ETA a " please"

Tom Sykes in his free Sunday substack just now, saying Charles should pick up the Sussex tab:

But if this really is an argument about a couple of million pounds a year, it is an extraordinary one. The King’s private income from the Duchy of Lancaster runs to around £25 million a year. He pays, as far as anyone can tell, for Andrew’s security. He supports Beatrice and Eugenie with rent subsidies. Why not Harry and Meghan?

As I reported exclusively last week, the king encouraged them to come home. They would not be here if he had told them they were not welcome, or had shown any backbone at all in standing up to them. This is a rehabilitation effort being carried out by the king, in the teeth of public opinion, William’s wishes, and the advice of his own courtiers. It is ridiculous to pretend otherwise. I think it is fair enough that the king should be the one who pays for a hot mess of his own creation.

Only 2% of the public backs taxpayer-funded protection for the Sussexes, and it is not hard to see why. Many people believe Harry put himself in danger with his own foolish choices, above all the decision to write in Spare that he had killed 25 members of the Taliban, an unbelievably stupid thing for someone supposedly preoccupied with his family’s safety to do (unless the aim all along was to bounce the British state into restoring his protection, in which case, with the King’s connivance and endorsement, it looks very much like it has worked).

Ah. Just googled it. A canny move. But no wonder H is cross if he has to live in a grace and favour house. Ie If you act with grace then I will let you live in a house as a favour. Still, it’s worked for everyone else.

I believe that Catherine's Together at Christmas is invitation only. I doubt she would invite them, this year at least, because it would take the focus off the attendees she is trying to thank and onto royal adjacent drama.

The Sandringham Christmas walk is more likely, but again maybe not this year to give things a chance to settle down.

I would be pleased to be given some examples as well. My memory tells me that Charles walked on eggshells after Diana's death, presumably to protect and comfort his sons as much as anything. You'd have to be some kind of a Class A knob to vilify the mother of your children after such a tragedy.

OliveMyLove · Yesterday 11:11

I don’t think Charles knew they would return, because I don’t think Harry and Meghan made this decision until after their trip.

Has Harry even seen his father for more than two hours in the past two years?

I cannot envisage any scenario where Catherine would invite HAM to her concert where the focus is on others .
If they attend Sandringham at Christmas then I imagine that the Wales family will go to the Middletons while the Tindalls may well go to his family !
Just a thought , if A and L do the Sandringham Walk , will they wear masks ??

In my view, being critical of Charles is not an issue here. I find it really hard to work out his position but I can believe he indulges Harry to an unwise extent - the question is what that extent is. It's true though that Charles's popularity is high right now on the most recent polling. Please stay on the thread if you want.

Fair point! It's very unlikely, otherwise that would have been shared by H&M.
