The royal family

Can we allow Harry and Meghan a clean sheet

Just that really.

When they come back should we just judge them by their future behaviour, not the past and try to be positive.

After the events of the last few days with Jason Arday it might help the RF if the media and social media allowed them to get on with things in a positive way. Frankly the only person who should be aggrieved is the Princess of Wales and maybe the King but he clearly want peace now what with his illness.

Let’s see if they can be positive and an asset to the UK and the RF.

I didn't say we 'owe' them anything. Nor did they, AFAIK?

Edited

You seemed to be suggesting they're owed a 'welcome' and 'forgiveness' from the British public.

Why? They're two wealthy private citizens who do nothing for the country.

@Lampzade Out of curiosity, are you aware that California has to deal with annual wild fires, drought, massive smog from traffic as well as wildfires, and flooding? Also major issues with the homeless and ICE raids? Many people on California are not that relaxed.

I am not suggesting that California is without problems . Homelessness and wildfires are obviously real issues
My point was specifically about this couple .
They’re wealthy and would have the resources to live in areas and circumstances where they’re far less exposed to some of these problems.
For them the relaxed lifestyle and quality of life they had in California could quite reasonably outweigh those concerns

Honestly people these days use the words relentlessly hounded I lived through the diana era she was literally hounded to death they let the same thing happen to catherine to a point camilla had it too princess ann literally was held at gunpoint with meghan they protected her very early on William put out a statement supporting his brother in a request for privacy nothing is ever good enough for harry

Completely agree with this!

I would love it if they came back, kept their heads down & got on with working & allowed the RF to live in peace. All the moaning/groaning/woe is me/victim-mentality is ridiculous & I would love to never hear of them in the press again!

BemusedAmerican · 21/08/2026 12:53

Yes, they can happily live a Marie Antoinette lifestyle with the rescue chickens while burbling about service being universal.

If Harry were really interested in nature, he could be actively helping California wildlife displaced by environmental disasters. Instead he stands by while his wife illegally rehomes protected mallards.

Photo ops on the burnt remains of people's homes, and making sure that they get photographed while handing out water isn't service.

I'm glad they are leaving the US. I feel sorry for the UK. They are both all wind.

Simply that the haters (online and in the news media) should just leave them alone. As you rightly state, they are 2 wealthy private citizens so really nothing to see here. I hope the people around them (at school etc.) will welcome them to the UK.

There is nothing wrong with this and everything wrong with the opposite i.e. the ridiculous, misplaced hatred towards them. Anyone who you feels that is very odd.

I think the best course for anyone encountering them is to smile and wave. Then be very busy.

I think the best course would be for people to completely ignore them. It is, after all, what they want, apparently.

I don’t know why some posters are trying to give the impression that the Sussexes practically ‘begged’ to return to the UK and that it was a unilateral decision
Anyone with a modicum of common sense should realise that obviously the ‘powers that be’ approved the decision .
The Monarchy has been in free fall since the Queen died . The current senior royals ‘ can’t cut the mustard’ and that is the truth .
William and Catherine have been called workshy over the years . In addition , they seem like nice enough people but they just don’t have the star power that The Sussexes possess . It really is as simple as that
The Sussexes are desperately needed as far as I and many others are concerned whether people want to admit it or not
The royal reporters / media seemingly frothing at the mouth at the Sussexes return , but everyone and their dog knows that they are possibly thrilled , as they can now afford to pay their mortgages and Tarquin and Eleanor’s school fees on the back of the Sussexes return
As I said in a previous post, I think that Meghan is making a mistake returning to the UK and I said earlier, I predict that the marriage will be over within five years if they return

It doesn’t seem to me as though H+M wait for approval by the powers that be before deciding on their next course of action. Why couldn’t they just have decided to come back?

Also - the monarchy is not in free fall - KC3, CC and the PPoW are all way more popular than H+M. What could they have to gain from a closer association with two proven liars, global figures of ridicule who think nothing of publicly criticising the institution, including accusing the establishment of wanting to harm them and the judiciary of corruption. Meghan with her exploitation of the vulnerable (including sick children) to sell clothes and bullying her staff while rewarding those who bully her SiL - Harry the racist slapping the arses of men he doesn’t know and embarrassing himself pontificating about politics. Their succession of embarrassing failures, their preaching about climate change whilst using private jets and enormous cars, supposedly supporting veterans yet claiming PTSD for not getting any attention when Charles was in USA. Using Invictus as a way to merch Meghan’s outfits. Getting ousted from Sentebale and now facing legal action. The ongoing disgrace of African Parks. They’re hardly going to enhance the RF’s reputation, are they?

If they've got such great 'star power' why have almost all of their projects flopped?

The Sussexes are desperately needed as far as I and many others are concerned whether people want to admit it or not

You do know that their approval ratings are very low? While William and Catherine's are high?

And you also know that they're not going to be working royals, so your entire point is moot?

Nihongo · 21/08/2026 13:54

This has got to be a wind up, or satire. William and Kate don’t need ‘star power’, they have the throne coming their way. Their children will be the future of the monarchy, and Harry will be sidelined just like Andrew, Anne and Edward.

OliveMyLove · 21/08/2026 13:54

Is it about star power then? Was that QEs draw then?

What are the Sussexes “desperately needed for”, please?

Yeh I’m not seeing that either.

Backtoschooloncemore · 21/08/2026 15:16

The very last thing the King or Prince of Wales would be looking for with the monarchy is to set up a competing court if they felt H&M had ‘star power’. Though that idea is too fanciful to be considered seriously. If they did indeed have ‘star power’ then their media endeavors would have been a successful instead of flops and they wouldn’t want to return.

OliveMyLove · 21/08/2026 15:17

I have relatives one can depend on and many that are a question mark. Others I wouldn’t ask for a sip of water because they can’t be relied upon.

They must be incredibly desperate if this is the plan. It’s already not going well.

Now if someone said the Royal Family is in need of someone to create ongoing diversions, I’d buy it.

Thank you, that was my question. To put it kindly, they both struggled as working royals.
I question how much of an asset they could be, going back to those roles they found most challenging.

Noodledog · 21/08/2026 15:25

If H and M had "star power", they wouldn't be humiliating themselves by crawling back to the UK

They would be with the A listers in California.
Hasn't happened.

captainboo · 21/08/2026 15:32

Most definitely not. The rubbish Harry spouted in his bio would've been enough for most people, yet his wanting police protection paid for by UK taxpayers, that even more senior royals don't get, just shows what an entitled arse he is.

oldwhyno · 21/08/2026 15:36

Yes..... if they came back showing some contrition, gave some apologies etc.

Izzzzxxx · 21/08/2026 16:21

In some ways I am happy for PH to return to the UK. I think he is mentally very vulnerable and being isolated and ostracised in the US has just accelerated his MH issues, paranoia and escalated his reactive behaviour. I hope that being back in the UK ensconced in his culture and community he will find some emotional balance and peace for himself and be more present to raise his DCs. I don’t excuse any of his hideous behaviour and I am probably wildly optimistic that this move will be a good foundation and better outcome for him and his DCs. I expect that he will be kept at arms length from W&K but be ‘managed’ at family events and this might be enough to bring him some comfort.

I think those are very fair points. He does seem to be paranoid and reactive, and I know he has suffered from significant MH problems. Perhaps returning to the UK will help him, if he is determined to have a fresh start. It's a pity that he chose the path he did after they moved to the USA, but I suppose he can try to build bridges now.
