Harry and Meghan can't be trusted. It's better to manage with fewer people than those liabilities.

And I think Catherine would point blank refuse to work with them and I wouldn’t blame her. The press would be constantly looking for snubs, slights, feuds, dirty looks and “bitchery’. It would be tedious.

MaturingCheeseball · 23/08/2026 10:02

Harry may be angling to get back on the civil list, but is Meghan up for opening a community centre in Luton on a rainy Thursday in February - probably 75% of the reason she wanted out in the first place?

She didn’t much care for her patronages before - she just wanted the glam gigs. And wanted Wimbledon made over to her.

Oh, and just remembered Harry leaving the military charity dinner in the lurch to go to The Lion King and hustle for Meghan.

Yes, they see the HIHO within their grasp… Meghan being free to be a socialite and Harry dusting off his uniform when he feels like it.

I think the assumption H&M are big private jet users is a probably a bit dated...

Yes, there was a history of H&M apparently using bizjets a lot in the early days of Megzit and around West Coast Invictus but a lot of that might have been facilitated by mates they had at the time and games sponsors..

These days If they have cash flow problem and no sponsors then hiring something that costs multiple thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars an hour to hire on a regular basis for weekends is possibly beyond their means..

Certainly in recent times H&M appear to have been mainly travelling commercial, certainly for Long Haul,.also probably for some shorter flights.

In the context of UK/Portugal certainly places like LHR allow you through airside as late as
35 minutes prior to departure, but I think TBH that's not really relevant to the weekend visits scenario being postulated upthread - a hypothetical trip from say a school in Cotswolds via Bristol airport or LHR to for example the coast west of Lisbon has to be at minimum 5 or six hours, even with super fast track through the ground process both ends.

Edited

I agree. I think their previous use of private jets was due to the kindness of 'friends', but that has mostly dried up and now they're stuck flying commercial, albeit first or business class, with the plebs.

I also don't believe they own a home in Portugal.

Cannesdo · 23/08/2026 09:12

They would probably be flying on a private jet so the usual check in rules wouldn’t apply.

I doubt it. They cost a fortune to charter and they haven’t got their own. That was one of their problems in the US: they are rich by our standards but not in the league of the super-rich A listers they thought they’d be joining.

Are you saying that she wasn't really pregnant?

I honestly don't know. Look up her bump at Birkenhead and make up your own mind.

The evidence is there something was very odd with the bump.
However she could have been trying to show more, appear bigger than she actually was. Rather than not being pregnant at all.
If that makes sense.

I think she was pregnant but wanted to look “more” pregnant and wore a fake bump for a bit.

Imagine being so deluded as to think you can tell the Royal Prince that he’s not wanted in the country he is from. Estupido.

Anyone can tell him this. He’s.not special.

Sadly the renewed interest in H&M due to recent events is attracting a lot of ill informed and sometimes bizarre posts.

There is zero change of Meghan ever doing anything for the royals again. Zero, nil, zilch.
She got hussled out one of the garden parties.

Harry is different, he needs to build the trust of KC & PW, first thought.

Noseyoldcow · 23/08/2026 10:12

They will get taxpayer funded security, whether we like it or not. RAVEC can’t have anything happening to them. And despite how stupid he is regarding pretty much all other matters, the ginger twonk knows and understands that.

We chopped a king’s head off in 1649!

Sadly I agree. Crikey, it’ll stick in people’s craw if Meghan is swanning around Soho Farmhouse with too-notch security paid for by us. Swooping in between London and the Cotswolds in a fleet of Range Rovers 😡

I think that’s probably right. In the photos with baby Archie and the Queen she has a glowing, much chubbier (I don’t mean that negatively) look typical of someone who’s just given birth. I don’t think you can fake that.

I actually preferred her looking “Bonny” as my mum would have said!

The civil list doesn’t exist any longer, hasn’t since 2011.

Charles controls and dishes out all of the royal funding from the Sovereign Grant.

Ah, I didn’t know that. So does a working royal get a fixed salary from Charles, or are they paid by appearance, so to speak? Harry ain’t going to want to carry out any duties without his palm being greased. And Meghan certainly won’t allow it; I believe she complained on their Australia tour that she should be being paid.

As I understand it, KC pays expenses, but not a salary. He gave Harry a £1.5m per year allowance (which continued when they went to California) plus a clothing allowance for Meghan.

They don’t get a fixed salary, or paid for their engagements. The grant effectively pays their expenses for carrying out engagements and for their staffing costs.

They don’t technically get money they can just spend on anything from the grant (although obviously they’ll get money privately from trusts and investments and stuff).

But there’s not the set amounts for each one that the likes of Princess Margaret used to get.
plus they have to give a report of the sovereign grant so you can see what was spent on overseas trips and travel and the likes.

How about a cheese hat? I've seen that mentioned on here 🤷‍♀️

Newname26 · 23/08/2026 12:51

I'll look forward to getting a giggle at folk eating a cheese hat or a kilo of fruit spread.

It will start slow, and slowly trust will be built with H. He's been very careful not to let much slip about his visit back in July.

As I say not a chance M will be trusted with anything, they wouldn't even trust her to open a paper bag never mind a community centre.

rocklivia · 23/08/2026 12:56

I think Charles will cough up to beef up their private security. During Harry’s last visit here, Harry had his two regular well known bodyguards with him, plus there were at least three other private bodyguards on his outings, probably paid by Invictus.

Isn’t that enough cover for anyone, they don’t need taxpayer funded personal security, but I agree part of this sudden move is to try to manipulate forcing a decision in his favour.

"H is still on the Councillor of State is he not?"

He is still a Counsellor of State but here (shamelessly googled)
Prince Harry remains technically listed as a Counsellor of State by law, but he is practically sidelined from acting for King Charles III. Palace arrangements and the Counsellors of State Act 2022 ensure that only working members of the royal family are called upon for official duties.

Also , I am sure I have read , that rather than removing Harry new Counsellors of State were appointed such that the chances of H ever having to act in the role were effectively nil.
