I’m sure I read that Kate used to go by Mrs Cambridge and now by Mrs Wales, when not on official duty.

She did, inc when she reserved a wetsuit in the shop in Anglesey. The guy didn't know who she was.

William and Harry were, William and Harry Wales in school

They're basically going back to what they could have had all along, but now with 7 years of mistrust, rancour and failure behind them.

Harry was basically a curiosity in America. A British prince living in sunny Southern California. But as you say, he had no status and no role. And no real source of income either. And however much Harry whined about England, it's all he had ever really known and it's the one place where he has real status and rank. I'd imagine hearing his children speak with American accents, and watching William's children wave from carriages at Trooping, really rankled with him.

However, while I can see why Harry wanted to come back, it's hard to see what's in it for Meghan. She hated it here and always wanted to be a part of the SoCal elite. So something major must have happened for her to agree to the move.

Very good points @IcedPurple

Harry and Meghan can't be trusted. It's better to manage with fewer people than those liabilities.

Meghan will never ever be trusted.
But i think Harry could be however thats difficult while hes still a couple with her.

No. He won't be.
If Harry ever gets a position of trust in the UK again, I'll eat a kilo of fruit spread.

Watch this space, sooner or later he'll be back working for the Monarch ie his old man. And once he's there hard for W to bin him.

It will start slowly opening community centres, invictus royal approval.

And don’t forget the three hour check in at the airport. And the Friday delays on the M25.

They would probably be flying on a private jet so the usual check in rules wouldn’t apply.

That too, also they wouldn't be checking in luggage, stuff in both houses.

No, and no again. We have a Constitutional, not an Absolute Monarchy.
It's not up to KC. He can have Harry count tomatoes at Highgrove, or count the stock at the gift shop.
Representing the Head of State? No.

MaturingCheeseball · 23/08/2026 09:20

Richard Eden said that Harry has some strong support from some Labour politicians. I read yesterday Emily Thornberry saying he had served his country and deserved security (first time she cares about patriots…). Which does give some credence to notion that he has been given positive assurances.

No, all that is empty waffle. Of course his security is considered and reviewed. It's not up to Emily Thornberry to allocate tax money. It's the decision of RAVEC and the Home Office.

What was the “moveable bump” you mentioned @Newname26 ?

BemusedAmerican · 23/08/2026 09:47

You should tell Emily that your country would be better off taking that 5 million a year and giving it to services for veterans genuinely in need. Services thst help with housing, food, job retraining, etc.

He might try to worm his way back in. But unless there's a big change of attitude and behaviour from them it will be a total disaster.

PullTheBricksDown · 23/08/2026 09:48

H is still on the Councillor of State is he not?

Good point @Newname26 and one that shows the downside of not acting quickly for the RF. They should have removed him while he was domiciled outside the UK, which he clearly was in spite of technically still having Frogmore for a lot of that time. Now that reason is defunct. 😔

I think the assumption H&M are big private jet users is a probably a bit dated...

Yes, there was a history of H&M apparently using bizjets a lot in the early days of Megzit and around West Coast Invictus but a lot of that might have been facilitated by mates they had at the time and games sponsors..

These days If they have cash flow problem and no sponsors then hiring something that costs multiple thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars an hour to hire on a regular basis for weekends is possibly beyond their means..

Certainly in recent times H&M appear to have been mainly travelling commercial, certainly for Long Haul,.also probably for some shorter flights.

In the context of UK/Portugal certainly places like LHR allow you through airside as late as
35 minutes prior to departure, but I think TBH that's not really relevant to the weekend visits scenario being postulated upthread - a hypothetical trip from say a school in Cotswolds via Bristol airport or LHR to for example the coast west of Lisbon has to be at minimum 5 or six hours, even with super fast track through the ground process both ends.

How on earth could he "worm his way in"?

Recklessismymiddlename · 23/08/2026 09:52

It wouldn’t surprise me if Labour politicians want to support a rogue Royal tbh. But can he be trusted with state matters and foreign affairs? I’d say not.

But I’m not the one making those decisions, but then the cynic in me makes me think, AMW couldn’t be trusted, now you’ll have Harry not trusted, a republicans dream.., I’ve said for a while we will have a republic in 20/30 years maybe this is why!!!

Re the security- I agree this is another attempt to force the issue
He has exhausted the other avenues and can’t afford his own bill going forward in either country

He is basically turning up on the spot saying we’re here and now you have to look after us

Rules never apply to him and his entitlement means he thinks the taxpayer should rightly take the hit not him

If he doesn’t get it cue we can’t come histrionics again - but he knows this will work

Ive met someone like this in a similar situation and after years of whining they just bounced everyone into what they wanted because no one had time to put a proper plan in place

It’s a tactic pure and simple

Edited

Yes this is plausible

He is basically turning up on the spot saying we’re here and now you have to look after us

Ravec now need to stay calm, refuse to be rushed and do a proper assessment of what a non working royal gets living here as a private citizen. It's logical to say that there's no need to panic since they came here safely a few weeks ago.Same for Shabana Mahmood who seems like a tough cookie. Thank goodness it's not Thornberry as home sec.
