Re the security- I agree this is another attempt to force the issue
He has exhausted the other avenues and can’t afford his own bill going forward in either country

He is basically turning up on the spot saying we’re here and now you have to look after us

Rules never apply to him and his entitlement means he thinks the taxpayer should rightly take the hit not him

If he doesn’t get it cue we can’t come histrionics again - but he knows this will work

Ive met someone like this in a similar situation and after years of whining they just bounced everyone into what they wanted because no one had time to put a proper plan in place

It’s a tactic pure and simple

Recklessismymiddlename · 23/08/2026 08:03

But the other royals only get security when they are working on behalf of the crown. I don’t think the Yorks get security. So why does he think he will get security unless the threats merit it? I hope he can’t bully his way into it. I want really shouldn’t get. But bullies often win unfortunately. Such is life.

All good points. Harry had the status and privilege of being royal for about 40 years, did he get that in the USA? I'm sure the servants bowed, and everywhere he went he got called "Sir". However, it's not the same as living as a Prince in the UK in terms of social status, opportunity and privilege.
It's probably been quite tough to adjust to, he didn't really have a role.
I've no idea why they have returned, but I do think being closer to the Crown and raising their children as royal is important to them.

They're basically going back to what they could have had all along, but now with 7 years of mistrust, rancour and failure behind them.

Harry was basically a curiosity in America. A British prince living in sunny Southern California. But as you say, he had no status and no role. And no real source of income either. And however much Harry whined about England, it's all he had ever really known and it's the one place where he has real status and rank. I'd imagine hearing his children speak with American accents, and watching William's children wave from carriages at Trooping, really rankled with him.

However, while I can see why Harry wanted to come back, it's hard to see what's in it for Meghan. She hated it here and always wanted to be a part of the SoCal elite. So something major must have happened for her to agree to the move.

Tom Sykes has released an interesting video (I’m finding him quite well briefed atm) saying that according to a good friend of H, this is another move in the game of security chess. H’s plan was to move his family to the UK and in doing so force the hand of the police in providing him with security. They would then have to consider his wider security needs.

It’s the sort of blundering, bullying and manipulative approach that’s consistent with past behaviour so I could see this being true.

The Cotswolds will suit H but MM will be miserable. Up to her knees in mud and blood sports for six months of the year? Can’t see it.

Harry belongs on the old money side (GL) but MM will want to be near the glam (OX). In Montecito they were joined at the bottom, in the Salty Island they won’t even be able to live in the same postcode.

I don't think living in the Cotswolds needs to mean being knee deep in mud and blood sports. She has lived in a rented house in the Cotswolds before. I think she probably imagines rubbing shoulders with celebrities and having a status she doesn't have in Montecino, but it's more than likely that no one is going to want to know her really. She's like a bad smell now, and influential people aren't going to want to be tainted by them. Unless there is something in it for them.

Parents at the schools they have chosen will keep well clear in general. Harry doesn't really have any friends in the UK anymore and the situation in the family will remain the same I think. Charles will have them round to tea for an hour every few months and talk through gritted teeth. None of the rest of the family will want to know.

I don't think there is anything in it for Meghan which might be why she made the comment about international bases.

But her business plans haven't really worked out either. So maybe H at least bringing some money in the door is it.

CoffeeCantata · 23/08/2026 08:08

Newname26 · 23/08/2026 07:44

I 100% believe Harry is going to try and work his way back into the family including full-time working Royal.
He's tried the independent thing it hasn't worked. He's back with tail between his legs.

I don't think the RF will ever accept Meghan back, far too many oddities including the moveable bump.

I hope I’m right in saying this, but happy to be corrected!

I don’t think it will be up to the RF whether H is allowed to become an official working royal after his conduct since marrying M. Royals have to meet politicians, heads of state and other foreign dignitaries, diplomats and maybe secret service personnel. Absolute discretion is crucial and H has shown he doesn’t have the character (or intelligence) to be trusted with an official role.

Far in the future I suppose he might open leisure/sports centres etc, but those big international events, never again, I hope.

I do agree about M. I think the people in the UK who don’t like her won’t support her return and those who do support her (for reasons I can’t fathom) hate all the royal stuff anyway.

CoffeeCantata · 23/08/2026 08:10

Should add that, barring revolution or William throwing in the towel, the Wales children will then be old enough to do royal duties and will take all the attention from H.

Recklessismymiddlename · 23/08/2026 08:10

I agree about the parents, they will close ranks sharpish. Talk about the weather, inanities, sorry, little Annabel/Johnny is so tired after school ….

BlazenWeights · 22/08/2026 20:55

Imagine being so deluded as to think you can tell the Royal Prince that he’s not wanted in the country he is from. Estupido.

Well they told a King and he was sent into exile.

You're right. What some people don't understand - particularly Harry, it would seem - is that working royals are supporting the monarchy, and the Head of State.
After everything Harry has said about his father, Camilla, William, Catherine, the RF in general, the monarchy and the UK, basically trashing it all,I find it extraordinary that he believes he has a role.

I have no clue who Tom Sykes is, but it's been shown this past week that all these self styled 'royal experts' don't have much more of a clue what's going on than any of us here.

Moving across the world with a family of 4, including two school aged children, makes no sense in terms of 'security'. Not even by Harry's daft standards. They're still non-working royals, and their security 'needs' will be assessed in that context. Even if RAVEC do decide that the family current merit full-time security, that could be reduced at any point if their assessments indicate it. It would also have no bearing on what level of security Harry 'deserves' in any other country.

I'm still a bit flummoxed by this move, but I reckon it has to do with money, or lack thereof, and Harry's hankering after his old life. But as the saying goes, you can't go home again.

Tom Sykes has a Substack and a YouTube Channel The Royalist. He was royal rota, kicked off for reporting that the King’s cancer was incurable. He’s a journalist rather than just an opinion spouter, been on the beat for years and does have contacts and sources.

But, yes, of course this is all conjecture.

I absolutely agree with you about the reality of the situation, but I also think this window into H’s thinking is a valid one.

Newname26 · 23/08/2026 08:18

I didn't know that others would be involved in the decision.
H is still on the Councillor of State is he not?

I think it will take time for him to be trusted but I do think he can wiggle his way back in a toe at a time. He has more chance with Charles than William.

At the moment there's 7 full-time royals, C&C, W&K, E&S and Ann.
Sometime before George is ready to be a full-time royal, William wasn't full-time until his mid 30s, W&K are going to need support from their own generation.

Yep.

I get the impression that even if H returned to working duties he would not be at all satisfied with the level of security he/his family might be automatically entitled to (or not) simply by his current position in the LoS.

Now he's back - and TBH I think the original motive was more likely cashflow/Visa than body guards, this is going to run and run.

He's forever going to be yelling to anybody who he thinks will listen about how so much higher profile he is than anybody else who served and so why he needs extra measures.

I don't think so. Harry is unpredictable, mercurial, contradictory and has been openly critical of the King, the PoW and the UK.
Is this a man to be given any formal responsibility, or to be trusted to do anything other than playing on a Game Boy and juggling?

I agree re the working royals but I think William, for a variety of reasons, will reduce the public role of the monarchy to Scandinavian levels, largely to allow his children a less pressured life. So I would guess that after Charles dies there’ll be a reduced requirement for large numbers of royals.

I don’t say this because I think W is lazy - it’s not as simple as that - I mean that “the times, they are definitely a-changing “ and he thinks a lower profile and less pomp and circumstance is the way to go - plus he probably knows that in the 21st century his children won’t want the sort of life their grandfather had with the prescription and restrictions.

Also, William is concentrating on fewer things, done at a deeper level eg Homelessness and the environment. Longer term, rather than just a short engagement with no follow up.
That requires fewer working royals.
They'll manage.

😂

I was thinking the same. But I don’t imagine M her royal self would ever hang around the school gates!

And - if HAM are as paranoid as they seem to be, how would they feel about the kids going to play with other children and possibly saying things they don’t want said? Might they try to impose all kinds of restrictions on school staff and other parents for privacy reasons? I just cannot see how this is going to work with M and H’s paranoia about their children and their privacy.

They are indeed a mass of contradictions.

Although, the upside will be living a more royal lifestyle and being acknowledged as such, with the bowing, Sir and Ma'am, deference and privilege.
The children will be treated more royally as well.

@CoffeeCantata I agree to an extent the RF will do less but things like the Princes / King's Trust, the DoE scheme the garden parties will still need support.

He's not going to want George being full-time Royal in his 20s

So hes going to need support from his generation, either in the shape of his cousins or his brother.

Harry and Meghan can't be trusted. It's better to manage with fewer people than those liabilities.

I’m sure I read that Kate used to go by Mrs Cambridge and now by Mrs Wales, when not on official duty.

They also don't have live in staff, which I think is a good idea, it makes it more of a family home.
