I think it's all quite bizarre, the suggestion and then the retraction.

My opinion based only on a hunch is that Guy would have found it amusing to have Meghan in the project, and he'd have been up for the publicity. He's established enough and doesn't give a fuck enough that if there had been criticism of her performance, he could cope and would come out of it if not exactly smelling of roses, then not ending up smelling of manure.

I think there must have been a conversation at least because if it was all complete bullish, he'd have no hesitation in saying so.

A few scenes of The Gentlemen was filmed in a property on my road and I saw Guy and some of the actors.

But why move your entire family for a filming job anyway? Actors are used to working away from home. It wouldn’t have been more than a few months worth and it’s not like Harry would to book leave so he and kids could visit her.

Well quite. It's clear that wasn't the sole reason for the move. It may be part of the reason - she'd like to act in the UK - but it's definitely not the main underlying reason(s).

I think there are other things, his visa, money (they aren't exactly making lots), wanting to build family relationship and I've no doubt H wants back in with William and an income from the RF.

M will disappear off to Portugal (International bases) with the kids shutting back and forward.

I'd never even heard of the programme. So having her in it could have raised its profile but are they thinking people might boycott it because of her, rather than watch because they've heard of it.

I certainly don't think they have or plan to relocate because of the job.

Not really, it must only be an hour's flight from London to Portugal, out of school 3pm Friday in Portugal in time for dinner back on a Sunday afternoon.
Clothes and general stuff in both houses, therefore not using checked in luggage etc.

Private schools probably have longer breaks than state schools too.

No, it's a longish flight to Portugal: London to Lisbon is 2h45min.

And don’t forget the three hour check in at the airport. And the Friday delays on the M25.

What?! They are Royal. Very Royal, and that status is important to them and they will no doubt insist on preferential treatment and being ushered through.
The only delays might be from flight attendants thanking them for their service.

I used to know a few people who managed a roughly weekly or fortnightly commute between Heathrow itself (where they worked) and Lisbon or Faro.

There's no requirement to check in three hours before at LHR but even so and even fast tracking everything possible the door to door journey time was such it's not something they'd routinely do just to get 48 hours in Portugal.

As you say stick the joys of the M3/M4/M25 onto that and it would be even worse.😨

I think the overriding reason is that he wants his children to “be royal” and that can’t happen in the US.

How it can happen here with both parents having left royal life, saying how appalling it is and that William is “trapped “, I do not know. It’s just one of the stupid contradictions about muddle-headed Harry and his infantile failure to see the consequences of his actions and speeches.

How are those kids ever going to get on to a balcony, or do walkabouts, collecting bouquets, if their parents are not royals?

Historically the Royals have tended to go into/out of Heathrow by road, but when on business then obviously they'll get a bit of help from the Met.

As it's looking at the moment HAM and family probably won't even get that assistance.

I'm going to say; yes, they want it both ways. They want to have the status and privilege of being royal, for themselves and their children.
But they don't want to be part of a hierarchy, do boring stuff like garden parties and sitting quietly during services in big churches.

I 100% believe Harry is going to try and work his way back into the family including full-time working Royal.
He's tried the independent thing it hasn't worked. He's back with tail between his legs.

I don't think the RF will ever accept Meghan back, far too many oddities including the moveable bump.

Tom Sykes has released an interesting video (I’m finding him quite well briefed atm) saying that according to a good friend of H, this is another move in the game of security chess. H’s plan was to move his family to the UK and in doing so force the hand of the police in providing him with security. They would then have to consider his wider security needs.

It’s the sort of blundering, bullying and manipulative approach that’s consistent with past behaviour so I could see this being true.

The Cotswolds will suit H but MM will be miserable. Up to her knees in mud and blood sports for six months of the year? Can’t see it.

Harry belongs on the old money side (GL) but MM will want to be near the glam (OX). In Montecito they were joined at the bottom, in the Salty Island they won’t even be able to live in the same postcode.

I have no clue who Tom Sykes is, but it's been shown this past week that all these self styled 'royal experts' don't have much more of a clue what's going on than any of us here.

Moving across the world with a family of 4, including two school aged children, makes no sense in terms of 'security'. Not even by Harry's daft standards. They're still non-working royals, and their security 'needs' will be assessed in that context. Even if RAVEC do decide that the family current merit full-time security, that could be reduced at any point if their assessments indicate it. It would also have no bearing on what level of security Harry 'deserves' in any other country.

I'm still a bit flummoxed by this move, but I reckon it has to do with money, or lack thereof, and Harry's hankering after his old life. But as the saying goes, you can't go home again.

All good points. Harry had the status and privilege of being royal for about 40 years, did he get that in the USA? I'm sure the servants bowed, and everywhere he went he got called "Sir". However, it's not the same as living as a Prince in the UK in terms of social status, opportunity and privilege.
It's probably been quite tough to adjust to, he didn't really have a role.
I've no idea why they have returned, but I do think being closer to the Crown and raising their children as royal is important to them.
