This makes sense - but why then didn't she do more when patron of the National Theatre? What a wasted opportunity that was.

I can just about believe she might not have gone to the theatre much with Harry. He doesn't seem like someone who'd enjoy it; probably not even The Snail and The Whale on stage would have kept his interest.

I said above but Meghan got the NT patronage in Jan 2019 and then they left the UK in January 2020. So a lot of it was timing.

My friend who works at the NT said that Meghan was involved and interested.

Any projects that Meghan was working on with the NT wouldn't have come out until at least 2020, but of course Covid hit.

She didn't have social media of her own, but I don't know if the Sussexes instagram or whatever it was called posted about the NT. I never followed it.

But the royal patron of the NT is not a showy role. Queen Camilla is the current patron and I don't know what she does to promote it (I say genuinely, not snakily; I don't follow what Camilla does).

DandyAF · 22/08/2026 17:44

*snarkily not snakily!

She is a regular attendee, and has receptions for staff at Clarence House. She has paid for tickets for various people connected to her charitable causes.

Lol, apparently Meghan's role in The Gentlemen is off because of the "backlash". I'm not sure how much backlash there was to the announcement that she might be joining a show that does not even have a contract for a new season in a role that has not even been created, but if you consider the plotline of The Gentlemen, it seems like someone has been pulling our leg.

The Gentleman is about an aristocrat, played by Theo James, who becomes the Duke of Halstead on his father's death (bypassing his dopehead older brother, Freddie) and discovers a secret weed empire growing on the family estate that his father had cultivated in partnership with a crime family. The new Duke of Halstead continues the crime partnership in order to pay off his brother's debt. Presumably Meghan was going to play a dopey Duchess.

Apparently we are meant to believe that the cancellation all happened in a few hours over the weekend. Does this mean they're not coming back to the UK now?

More likely the job was never a real possibility in the first place.

I still think they'll come back. But I also think the poster who suggest this is a return to sender is possibility right.

M will disappear off to Portugal (International bases) with the kids shutting back and forward.

I wouldn't be surprised if Meghan continued to spend a lot of time in Montecito. Long trips to Portugal sound nice too. The whole family will visit Grandma Doria in California at Christmas, Easter and the summer holidays, thus avoiding the embarrassment of not being invited to Sandringham, Balmoral, etc.

Asunciondelaflata · 22/08/2026 20:37

Perhaps the children can be boarders before long.

Boarding seems to be out of fashion for children below secondary age. So still a long time before even Archie boards.
A lot can happen in the next 6 years.

Also, I've just remembered. I used to read her blog The Tig a bit as I was a fan of Suits before she met Harry. I'm pretty sure that Meghan mentioned theatre, and possibly even ballet in that.

The Tig was definitely quite 'cultured', more than you'd expect from an American actress on that type of show. And definitely pretentious at times.

But you can write anything on a blog…

She is savvy enough to know that certain activities and interests are chic.

🙄do NOT want them here!
I thought she hated the UK????
The money has obviously run out!

Imagine being so deluded as to think you can tell the Royal Prince that he’s not wanted in the country he is from. Estupido.

A cat may look at a Queen as the saying goes.

Of course anyone can tell a “Royal Prince” 🤣 anything they like. We’re not living in Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

Cannesdo · 22/08/2026 21:48

There wasn’t a sniff of this (H&M returning to the UK).
So much for all the Royal Reporters who seem to have been blind sided !

What? Methinks you're the stupid one.
I'm perfectly entitled to the opinion that I don't want this eejit living back in this country!
I don't give a stuff what his supposed title is. I don't respect him or the way he's behaved. I look down on him.

You’ve used one of my favourite words Evie!

I think Royal Eejit rather suits H🤣

Indeed.
Imagine being so deluded that you think the Royal Family are somehow allowed to stop you having or expressing an opinion.
Even the most ardent monarchist wouldn't think that was a good idea.

Moving on, one of my favourite non-English words for "stupid" is the Welsh "twp"..

Yes remember it, she named it after her favourite red wine!

LaMarschallin · 22/08/2026 22:52

What "backlash" is this?
People are dubious that this role will happen and many (me included) don't believe that it's the reason for the sudden return ticket on the Freedom Flight, but backlash?
That implies people are angry about her appearing in "The Gentlemen", whereas most haven't heard of it until today.
I could understand the idea of a backlash if she was joining some beloved soap or becoming the next Dr Who...
It's a very prompt start to "Salty Island is soooo mean to poor little me".

Exactly. I would never describe myself as a monarchist but after witnessing that hideous Oprah interview where Meghan spouted so many provable lies 😡 (and that eejit wet lettuce Harry allowed her to 🙄) I became much more protective of the Royal Family. Even so, they absolutely cannot stop anyone from having an opinion. @BlazenWeights is clearly lacking in the brain cell department!

BigWillyLittleTodger · 22/08/2026 22:57

The nasty racist Uk now being blamed for (non existent) acting gigs being withdrawn 🙄.

SummerNocturnal · 22/08/2026 23:00

Shame if that is true. I liked her in Suits and would have been interested in seeing what Guy got out of her.

As I said, nothing is going to convince you. She interviewed Misty Copeland over 12 years old, but you will probably argue that isn't out of any interest in cultural figures but purely her being savvy. You can't have it both ways and say there's no evidence that she is for example cultured, and then dismiss any evidence to the contrary Grin

The plot thickens (pardon the pun!) they should stay put where they are so if there's no work for them on this salty little island!
I'm sure they wouldn't want to be a burden on the state!

Quite.
I said on another thread that I don't get what "backlash" there's been.
Plenty of people don't believe the part will happen and don't believe that's the reason they came back, but nobody's going to care if she actually does get a part in this little known programme.
In fact, the best thing would be to take the part (if one is actually being offered) to prove the nay-sayers wrong.
But, yes, already claiming the UK is being mean and stopping her triumphant return to acting.
Apart from the lying on the floor, weeping sort.
