Thank you for the details. It really was a mixture of terrible luck and bad judgement, wasn't it?

Not to mention a drunk driver and no seatbelts..

The seat belt thing amazes me. Even 30 years ago it was habit you got in a car and put a seatbelt on.
Why did they not do it.

Yip I went of to Google when seatbelts in the back became law. I can't find the answer but I think it was mid 80s.

I work hard to pay my taxes and I don’t wish them to be spent on these grifting freeloaders. The least they could do is to be grateful but no, the last 6 years have made it perfectly plain what they think of us Brits and that spectacle of their wedding day.

Did your taxes go down over the last 6 years? 🤔

This is nonsense, though.

The car that Henri Paul was driving when they crashed was completely unpredictable. Dodi and Diana weren’t expected back at the Ritz that evening - they were at Dodi’s Paris apartment before heading out to dinner. They changed their plans literally while en route driving to the restaurant where they had a booking. After dinner at the Ritz, when they decided to go back to Dodi’s apartment, they made another last minute decision to change cars and drivers. The car they had been using while in Paris was driven to the front of the hotel by its driver to act as a decoy. Henri Paul went to the hotel’s garage to pick up a car from the Ritz fleet to drive Diana and Dodi back home from the rear entrance.

So no, they didn’t use the only car available. They made a last minute decision to not use the car they’d been using all day tand o take one of the many in the Ritz’s garage instead.

It wasn't the only car in Paris, obviously. But it was the only one of the Hotel cars which was regularly left in the garage.

Well, my tax dollars were spent on them. We provided Megan with a large police escort when she went to the theater, as well as one for Harry when he visited a tattoo parlor. With them gone, the NYPD can prevent some real crime.

Are you suggesting the Ritz Carlton kept this car aside for this purpose and that Henri Paul knowingly selected the dangerous car and was involved in this conspiracy?

My sister has a different theory which is pretty horrible 😕
She thinks they feel that KC3 hasn't got long left and want to make sure they and the kids are in the will 😕

I think both theories are possible. They always wanted to be royals, they don’t actually want their kids to be American nobodies.

They also have much less of a chance of getting their hands on anything when W becomes King, so they want Kc to set them up before that.

To me their vacillating is symptomatic of their restless, rootless seeking for something that is never going to exist. The problem is THEM, not the location.

First they think they’ll take the UK by storm and show the RF just how it’s done. Then they flounce off in a huff to the Promised Land of the US but that goes pear-shaped too, so back they come.

Rinse and repeat!

Yawn.

Reports are now that MM has been offered a role in entertainment - doesn’t really fit with their own announcement in People that MM herself would be based at their international residences (as opposed to the UK) in order to run her businesses.

I suspect that after the legal loss to ANL and ££££ associated costs that:
There are going to be investigations into the charitable tax affairs of Invictus, Archewell and Sentebale which will mean further large settlements so it doesn't see a courtroom.
Their Montecito Mansion will struggle to sell and they'll lose $$$ on that.
They have no way to grift any further without personal access to the RF and they need to monetise those kids, and so a British elite education is necessary (plus, M will want her dc to have what the Wales children will have)
What a mess.

They paid $14.6m for their house in 2020 - property has rocketed in Montechito since then - now worth double at $29m.

They had a $10m mortgage on it so still $20m quids in on that deal - although the local taxes and mortgage repayments are reported to be $600 / year - so a massive debt to service if no steady income stream

I wonder if it's something in the West End. More and more celebrity casting is happening and the tickets sell like hot cakes. There is the recently vacated role in Sunday in the Park with George that Ariana Grande was going to do, but not sure if Meghan sings. Anyway, so intrigued to know what role has led to her return to acting.

No worries, it is confusing! I think Lady Fermoy was an ambitious woman. She had married a much older man herself, as had her daughter, Frances, and her granddaughter Jane.
Quite the done thing in that family.

I imagine her as a throwback to a grand eighteenth century aristocratic matriarch, organising her family’s lives from behind her fan!

Madam Tussauds as the dummy she is ?

the80sweregreat · 21/08/2026 08:26

MM will need acting lessons again surely after so long away. It’s ironic because it was reported that William told Harry she’d have to find a job after they got married and it didn’t go down that well apparently ( I remember he said something like this during the Oprah interview).

I'm not so sure - she acts up most of the time.

Theatre and International
relations though? Not dissing them, I’m sure they are fine courses but they don’t sound like academically challenging disciplines. MM is articulate so I’m not surprised she was able to talk her way into a decent university but we haven’t seen evidence of her being particularly academic.

It's one thing to look down on MM justifiably, but this is just ignorant. At least do some basic googling first.

International Relations is a respected course, and is academic.

It is difficult to "talk yourself" into an American university - unless you are on a sports or other skills-based scholarship or have rich parents - because you have to have a certain SATs score.

SATs is kind of a measure of general intelligence. I've done it.

Northwestern where MM went is a very good school. You need a high SAT score to get in. The admittance rate is 7%. This is far higher than the admission rate for "a red brick Russell Group" that another poster compared Northwestern to.

Her teachers at high school said that she got very good grades.

I'm not sure what evidence you'd expect to see of her being particularly academic given her line of profession?

CoffeeCantata · 21/08/2026 09:43

I'm not sure what evidence you'd expect to see of her being particularly academic given her line of profession?

I admit we can't judge or know really.

But she gives the impression of being poor at concentrating on anything. You can see when she's called up to talk to people - either officials or members of the public - her eyes flicker and she just cannot focus on what's being said to her. Similarly - when she's in an audience for sport of other events, she cannot sit still and just concentrate. There are well-documented cases of this, one when she sat by the Queen at the Braemar Gathering. The Q sits quietly, respectfully paying attention to the Games, but Meghan just cannot do that. She fidgets, she plays with her hair, she chatters to the Queen (who completely ignores her and continues to stare ahead...er, read the room, Meghan - but she doesn't).

And I'm sure that if Meghan had any intellectual interests we'd know about them. She's such a self-publicist that if she were a keen reader, or devoted to the theatre, opera or art - we'd see them at these cultural activities.

But no - all we see is her jigging about at a Beyonce concert. So I'm very sceptical about her academically. I know people myself who would score well on an IQ test but who are totally unintellectual, and I think she falls into that category.

DandyAF · 21/08/2026 09:55

@CoffeeCantata

IMO intellectual and academic can be two different things. I was talking about her being academic.

I feel MM has a lack of interest in some people and some events, rather than an inability to focus, but I've not seen footage of her at events for many years so can't say.

I have ADHD and fidget a lot (and in fact the fidgeting is what helps me focus) but I also am very academic. A bit bemusing to think that my neurological ability to stay still often in overwhelming environments would lead people to think I was unintellectual, but so be it Grin

To my mind I think that suggests that Meghan doesn’t have a hinterland - we see absolutely no evidence of any private enthusiasms beyond her carefully cultivated public persona.
