censorship? Unable to use her voice?
She is so, so unsuited to being Harry’s wife. She wants publicity and kudos and attention on her personally; she’s a millennial (just?) for whom the mantra “pics or it didn’t happen” is a philosophy of life. She lives her life in a derivative fashion: behind a screen whether TV or phone, projecting an image where that image is what matters more than reality. That’s who she is and how she makes money and lives her life and the world she lives in. Many people call that inauthentic because it’s all about image and could all be a complete lie for all anyone knows. For her, this image-factory IS life. An inability to project her chosen image must indeed feel like stifling censorship, an inability to exist on her own terms.
There are loads of people like this in the world. We call them social media influencers most recently on an entry-level basis, but they’ve always existed. (Some might say Harry himself, pre-Meghan, was a manufactured image…). Hollywood and TV and basically all of “fame” is this. It’s fiction over fact. Entire industries, all over the world.
Meanwhile, she doesn’t get that the rest of her in-laws don’t operate on those terms. Yes, they project a probably-false image on social media and tightly control old school media coverage, but it’s not for personal $$$$ and egotistical gain. I mean, it may be but if it is it’s incidental to the bigger picture which is that it’s image-creation to further the national interest by projecting a specific image of the British royal family.
Meghan’s bigger goal is personal enrichment. Kate and William’s (let’s face it, that’s who she’s comparing herself to) bigger goal is fulfilling their duty as future king and queen, raising a future king.
Neither is wrong. Meghan is free to be who she wants to be. But she can’t moan about the restrictions of marrying into the BRF because that’s what she chose. She CHOSE this. So, now put up or shut up. Or, more likely, divorce.
I think we are seeing the beginning of the end of this couple. The closer he gets to home, the further she will want to be from the restrictions of being with him and the further he will have to move away from her. And honestly it’s Harry’s fault. What was he thinking, bringing someone who thinks like this into his family and family business? She’s completely, utterly unsuited to it.
