Dan Wootton obsessed with H &M

Why is Dan Wootton so obsessed and full of hatred for Harry & Meghan?

i recently listened to Spare on audible - purely because it was free and I was interested to see what he had to say. ( most of it was boring self indulgent crap imo)
predictably the algorithms have filled my YouTube with H &M stuff!

it seems there is a daily barrage of videos from DW about them, such vitriol from this man. It’s unhinged!
I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m no fan of theirs at all but Jesus he acts like they murdered his granny.
He’ll post a picture of one of them literally smiling and turn it into a massive conspiracy theory about smirking at the Queen on her deathbed or some utter nonsense

rant over!!!

Whats with the ‘overnight’ reporting, are there lots of weekend night owls with nights and days confused. This thread has been running for a week now and the reporting only happened overnight last night. so I guess it was the pigeon derail, which is fair enough, it was not in the spirit nor relevant.

simpsonthecat · 27/07/2026 14:36

No idea who is up in the night reporting unless they are on a different time than here!

I thought the reason that MN wanted to create an FAQ for this forum was to explain some of the long running jokes here. Did I misunderstand? I felt badly for the mumsnet team member who started that thread!

What long running jokes? I thought it was about explaining the board?

My god there's something wrong with Wootton. I just looked at his youtube channel, not to listen to but to look, I feel rather grubby now even just looking, he is beyond obsessed with harry and meghan. The headlines of each one were bad enough, goodness knows what the content 30 minutes each is like.

He is just spouting off for $$$$$$$.

About 15 pieces of footage about them in less than a week. The bloke needs help.

Well this is why OP was askong thwle question, as he is churning this out on a daily basis which is quite different to one off book or interview.

Malice entertainment = cha ching and the more people he can manipulate into paying for his content the better. He isn't the only one making money off the back of this type of entertainment which most of it is pure gossip, made up specualtion that people get sacked into believing.

Slating people is lucrative.

As someone said better than me…two cheeks of the same arse.

Love it!!

I cannot see why it is ok for one to do it and be celebrated and the other is criticised.

It is the same to me.

eta - I am aware that DW has had more frequent opinions but H undoubtedly has a larger audience to his opinions. It must even out.

They didn’t want to leave, they wanted half in half out, they talked about ‘collaborating’with the Queen’ 😆😆

Meghan wanted to be able to monetise her titles, pick the ‘sexy’ bits, be adored the world over - no Monday morning winter factory visits for her, just film premiers and UN photo ops

Despite them laying all this out on their website, defendsrs say they left. Nope, they thought the institution needed them and would agree their terms but the RF told them bye.

They are desperately hanging on to their Royal connection as they have nothing else

Definitely. This narrative of fleeing only started when they were told no to monetising their RF connections. The statement is still there.

After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.
"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.
"It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.
"We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth and our patronages.
"This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.
"We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties.
"Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support."

It’s something to read this now. I would say it didn’t age well but it was not good while fresh, either.

I can’t remember the wording but I think it was intended to explain things a new poster would not know automatically including phrases, jokes specific to this board.

I see, thank you

adragoncalledaudrey · 27/07/2026 15:25

That statement was so full of hope and they did still have the support of many.

I do think it could have worked out wonderfully for them had they chosen to be positive and look forward.

I do think that the more some people look back, the more they will be disenchanted with what they see and will need to tell anyone who will listen. I think most people would do some things differently (DW included) if they got the chance.

The more you speak of your disenchantment, the more folk like DW will comment.

It could have been different but it isn’t.

Winnie1970 · 27/07/2026 15:38

It could definitely have been different. I think the problem was that alongside this statement was another section where they laid out further details regarding how they would collaborate with the RF, what their security arrangements would be alongside other points. It was an odd thing to do without checking with others and came across as arrogant and entitled rather than hopeful. I don’t even care that much, this thread came up as active and I thought it would be useful to read what they actually said at the time so went back and looked it up.

adragoncalledaudrey · 27/07/2026 15:39

Fair point.

There is a difference between mass reporting (which I mentioned) and reporting guidelines being broken.

GIFs are part of MN. Not sure what the pigeon stuff is about but gifs are sometimes funny.

I don’t like passive aggressive emojis but they are here too. C’est la vie.

If someone chooses to laud or criticise H&M on this thread I do think it is valid. The original post was about DW making his money off H&M and living off his hatred.

I don’t think it is a derail to discuss why he may have that hatred and to discuss why he may be mistaken.

As I’ve said before, there isn’t much difference between DW earning his money discussing H&M and his ‘hatred’ of them and H discussing his family and the hatred of the establishment of the press in his book and elsewhere. He is making a few bob out of that too.

Perhaps we are in the wrong job but I don’t think I’d care to earn my money in such a way.

I do care about not being able to express what I feel is a fair opinion because someone else thinks I should not though.

That's a very fair post !

It's the vampires - those with no shadows and no reflections.

threesocksmorgan · 27/07/2026 16:08

its strange as the thread was so tame.

Dan Wooten and Omid Scobie are opposite ends of the same spectrum. I don’t think I have ever seen any Sussex fans decrying Scobie or wondering why he hates Catherine so much and has been the spokesperson for Harry&Meghan.

Does Dan Wooten promote the other royals the way Scobie reviles them?

LipglossAndLies · 27/07/2026 16:21

@Grandmistress991 agree with your points.

There is a massive difference between someone writing a memoir and doing a few interviews (thats finite), done and dusted. Dan has built a business model around churning out relentless daily fury about them to line his own pockets resorting to dissecting trivial things and blowing them up to generate demand and in turn his audience behave the same way.

If you even just glanced at his channel its interesting how he weaponises words like evil, chaos, crisis in capital letters to create a sense of finality and immediate ruin over trivial things. Pure pantomime framing.

adragoncalledaudrey · 27/07/2026 16:31

As long as his words are not lies, then despite what we may think of him, he is entitled to have that opinion and frame it as he pleases.

It may not be pleasant or entirely fair but it is his right.

If he chose to lie or frame his recollections of H&M in a way that insinuated something appalling, then I’d be criticising that.

I believe that is actually weaponising words, rather than using a phrase or word that we may not choose ourselves.

Justdancevance · 27/07/2026 16:34

The Sussex’s create their own pantomime. Will they won’t they on their own without needing any help from Wootto.

That’s why I like the lack of drama around William and Catherine.

lollibit · 27/07/2026 16:36

He's not the only one doing this. There are loads of them I gather on the Hams. It's an industry and if you happen to be controversial then this is what happens - Kanye and his half naked wife, Britney, Blake Lively, Eliot Page. Look at the abuse posters get on here when they as much voice a different opinion.

“If you even just glanced at his channel”

Just not interested so never bothered before. But I did because you suggested it. Out of 20 current videos only 2 are about Sussexes. One was relating to cost of the ANL loss which seems timely.

Still not interested but I was expecting to see a channel that was solely dedicated to them.

They had the opportunity and the resources to be left alone or live a less public life.

They didn’t take it.

People who push themselves front and centre and are seemingly a mass of contradictions will always attract comment.

While maybe not being able to cure cancer, they had such an opportunity to do good and raise awareness for many causes.

They chose not to.

Apart from Invictus. They chose to make that more about them.

A waste and a shame.

But if they annoy you so much why don’t you just ignore them? Simples.
