The group photo after thevThree Peaks thing wasnotice of intent of exactly that, IMHO.

You may very well be right. In which case who would turn up? It would just be such an awkward Christmas.

Sophie and Edward won't be there either. Sophie loathes her.

I have spare beds if they're stuck and the local Premier Inn's full.

Starryfifty · 10/07/2026 21:34

I still think divorce is imminent. This is not the week megs wanted at all. I'm not sure how this week is reported in the US though

Now love. This is jam. And look no sprinkles.

They could do a blind tasting when the scintillating conversation sags a bit. My money's on Duchy every time.

She’s not got control at the moment and she’ll hate that.

I doubt that he has fallen for anything.

He has neutralised the security thing, slapped down their demand to stay at a royal residence. They didn't meet the King and Queen, they met Pa/Grandpa and his gracious wife in the private family home.

No pics, no public appearance, no cavalcade, no papps, no mean, cold-hearted King-won't see-his-grandchildren.

They must be desperate to have agreed to this humiliation-by-kindness.

Exactly.

His most recent comment on the matter was to wish his son and family well in their life overseas.

He now makes known that he and his wife have hosted the family privately at home.

No fuss. No hassle. No publicity.

So as soon as any of those things happen, it will be more obvious than ever exactly what the source is.

I hope you’re all right and I’m wrong. Of course I’m not objecting to them meeting privately (though I am judging it). But I’m watching carefully to see if attempts will be made to bring H and MM back into the working RF.

JudgeJ · 10/07/2026 21:40

JSMill · 10/07/2026 20:44

If I were one of MIGS, I would see it as a terrible idea. W and C are the future of the monarchy. They might decide to give it a miss, which is not good for the institution. The Sandringham church walk generates a lot of feel good publicity and you would want to the heir and his family there. And if W and C did decide to attend, you would face the prospect of the two women drawing daggers at each other and an overall frosty atmosphere as I think most of the extended family have no time for them.

W and C would be at the front, H amd M as non-working royals could bring up the rear with the Yorks so no need for interaction in public, then W and C can decamp across the road to Anmer for a proper Christmas with her family.

I wonder if having Camilla there was also a kind of 'power play' from Charles? We know Harry loathes her, and especially given the horrible things he wrote about her in 'Spare', I'm sure the feeling is now mutual. I wonder if Charles basically said 'You either meet us with my wife present or not at all'?

Her presence will also have made the meeting a lot more awkward and formal.

I wonder if H and M bowed/curseyed to her, as they should do!

For me, after all the stunts H&M have pulled, if they want to meet in private, it has to be a completely private visit - not something tacked onto the side of Invictus, Well Child or any other quasi royal activities, and certainly not tacked onto the side of one of his court cases or media moan-fests/ circuses. In and out of the country, no announcements, nobody needs to know. Anything else in my mind looks like royal endorsement.

That would only work if Charles were concerned about the kids being 'dangled'.

I honestly don't think he's that bothered. I think he's accepted that he's never going to have a real relationship with them. A brief meeting isn't going to change that. The kids won't really have a clue who he is and will be overwhelmed with all that travel. If Charles really wanted to get to know them, he'd have made much more time in his diary. I really don't think he's that desperate to form a relationship with them.

Whatever Charles's motivation for the meeting, he's shown H and M he can be manipulated. I'll be amazed if the drama doesn't ramp up again in December - but the emotional manipulation will now be raised massively "Archie and Lili loved meeting their grandpa so much, they'll be so sad not to see him at Christmas blah blah"

As another PP said, they've got their foot in the door now, and they'll make damn sure it never shuts again. They've run out of options so they need the RF.

Rhaidimiddim · 10/07/2026 21:48

Passingthrough123 · 10/07/2026 21:28

I think this is spot on. 👏 Charles has played a blinder in getting them to do the visit exactly on his terms. I also bet you anything that Camilla suddenly had to take an urgent and lengthy phone call five minutes after they arrived.

Agreed, except that I don't think Camilla woukd have left the room for a minute.

Wholeheartedly agree, the genie is out of the bottle now, this is just the start, we ain’t seen nothing yet……..

Ohpleeeease · 10/07/2026 21:24

Neither do I, I’ve maintained all along that people thinking he’s yearning to see them are projecting their own sentiments. I don’t think he’s fussed about two children he’s barely engaged with.

But having met them, it will be hard to dodge the video calls, the letters, all the other sentimental guff that will be coming his way. Also Charles’s weakness has always been the need to be loved. They’ll play on that weakness for all they’re worth.

I agree with this, I think it’s Harry who wanted the kids to meet his father, rather than the other way around, Harry was the one who was pushing for it. I honestly don’t see Charles even remotely being a doting grandfather, if the kids are around, I am sure he is fine with them, but I doubt he will be calling them to come over because he misses them.

But what was Charles 'manipulated' by? Seriously, I don't get it. He had a brief meeting with his son and grandson, with his wife present. No photos, just a single public statement. He did not attempt to pressure RAVEC, he did not bend to Harry's messing about over accommodation, he did not allow any photos.

Like I say, I think Charles would have agreed to a meeting like this at any point over the past 7 years. The door has likely always been open on his side. It was always the Sussexes who held out. So who is being 'manipulated' here? Everything is being done on Charles' terms.

HoldMyWine · 10/07/2026 21:53

I’ve been out for the evening so just catching up. Wow. My first thought is, did Meghan curtesy and how?!
I do hope that KC is happy with this meeting and it goes to show that HAM could easily slip in and out of the UK with no drama or security if they so wanted.

Yes unfortunately. The as ever Xmas special was a total flop. The optics of bringing up the rear at sandringham is a lot better

I absolutely agree with you. It's proved that KC is a very accommodating and forgiving man. QC was there, in spite of Harry's smears about her. No paps, security clearly more than adequate and everything on the King's terms! I think it's excellent.
They're not victims, they're not constantly being papped, there's more than enough security and the King and Queen are friendly and accommodating.
Win!

I do see your point here , but has he been manipulated? He's done the family visit on his terms. There could be other family visits in a similar under the radar vein.
I think where KC's man meets monarch mind may go is - yes H I'd love to see the GCs but I'm not having another of these ridiculous stories played out in the press. So how about we sort something out which doesn't involve cameras (inc Sandringham) .

Now I'd be tempted to add , if you want to come for Christmas your brother won't turn up , Anne will give me an earful , and Edward and Sophie might not welcome you whole heartedly so I suggest January ? - but that's just me 😂

StartupRepair · 10/07/2026 22:00

Camilla is very protective of Charles and very good at small talk. The whole visit would go past in a flash with no deep or meaningful conversation. M firmly put in her place.

Yes. I think some people just hate seeing Harry and Meghan 'rewarded' in any way and feel that Charles needs to 'punish' them at all times. But the fact is Harry is Charles' son. Nothing can change that.

Now, if we wee to see 'official' photos of the meeting on tomorrow's front pages, or if Charles were to start talking publicly about his 'darling boy' Harry again, I might think differently. But a brief meeting, away from the cameras, with the Queen casting a stern eye over all, was a power play by Charles.

ForAmberPoster · 10/07/2026 22:02

I hope they cleared the coffee table except for a copy of Spare which they kept pointedly glancing at

My2cents1975 · 10/07/2026 22:03

Charles has a duty to the UK government. Seeing his second son is a personal indulgence for KC3. You cannot separate the Crown and the father, as people are trying to do. And failure to hold a disloyal Duke to account is a slap in the face to all the people that H ran roughshod over...the very people KC3 relies upon to run his government, administer his justice, fight his wars and manage his household.

Accountability is not punishment. IMHO, for H to lash out attacking a sitting Justice and be rewarded with facetime with the Sovereign is inexcusable. KC3 should have at the very least required a public apology from H to the Judge before any meeting.

IMHO, it will all backfire on KC3.
