I have watched that , I’m sure favourable posters will jump …but I believe him ! 🤷‍♀️

I can't watch the link. Having said that I remember thinking at the time that surely anyone in the media would know that linking a mixed race child with a monkey was a stupid and offensive idea.

Justdancevance · 24/06/2026 07:02

ive just seen doing. Sexy poses with the veggies. She’s hillarious

A cup of vomit anyone?

That looks like the inside of my kitchen compost caddy.

Who in hell would drink / eat / go near that? I can only think of two animals that might have a crack at it: farmyard pigs and some breeds of goat.

PeonyPanda · 24/06/2026 07:11

Yeah the Danny Baker thing cannot be explained away I don’t think. He’ll have had lots of media training in his role and should have thought through the optics. There’s no excuse for that post.

I saw that, those freshly picked vegetables are immaculately clean, as is she. What is the point of her?

Yup I believe him too.
I’ve not seen that clip but I knew about the ‘monkeys dressed as famous people thing’ and I did think he was just using that. I didn’t dare say anything in his defence incase I got piled on as I love these threads - so thanks for posting that Jeff.
To my knowledge they are the only two examples that constantly get trotted out every time people mention racism in the press. I read the Rachel Johnson opinion piece before the furore kicked off- and to this day I still don’t know what the issue was.
I watched a tv show a few days ago - an American broadcaster was in Paris. He described the dancers at The Moulin Riouge wearing costumes covered in feathers and sequins as exotic. Some of them were clearly mixed race - and no one took offence and called him racist. Imagine that!

Umm, exotic as a description of dancing means flashing the undercarriage, which the Moulin Rouge dancers are famous for. I think it would have been used in that sense.

The cup of matcha looks revolting...

I see so many influencers who are really good at photography and showing items in their best light - they make it look easy. But Meghan doesn't have that talent.

Also - in the new reel - her looking away and then looking to the camera to laugh is so Amandaland😁

HoldMyWine · 24/06/2026 07:44

Senuous !

Mylovelygreendress · 24/06/2026 07:44

Hurrah , a new thread ! Thank you .

You could be right. Personally, I just do not believe the conversation was anything of substance or negative in nature.

Fairly sure similar would have happened with Diana & Charles - and we are all still talking about which ones look like Diana (often quite a stretch).

Choux · 24/06/2026 07:55

Thanks for the new thread. Am too tired and grumpy to post sensibly right now though.

MrsFinkelstein · 24/06/2026 07:57

Absolutely! I also don't get what the veggies mean in relation to As ever. She doesn't sell anything with vegetables in it - it's just such a generic random vague lifestyle post.

Vegetables dipped in spread with flower sprinkles ?? Nothing would surprise me .

Cocolapew · 24/06/2026 08:13

I was reading on X the fruits and vegetables don't harvest at the same time anyway and the general feeling is she is trying to show off the blue ring

It was more about their look, what they were wearing.
He was backstage with the dancers, meeting the 90 yr old lady who has designed and made the costumes for decades.
It wasn’t about the dancing and it wasn’t delivered in a derogatory manner.
“You look exotic” -I don’t automatically think of flashing your fanny or having black relations/ancestors. Maybe that’s just me though.

DaisyDooley · 24/06/2026 08:43

The tiles in the picture look like bathroom tiles.
Maybe she had to be near a loo when she drank it?

That looks just like something my dog would bring up after he'd been outside eating grass 🤮 - sorry.

Forgot to say, thanks for the new thread @NormalAuntFanny 😊

He’s not explaining it away. He’s accepting he made a mistake and explaining what happened in context. He did the monkey thing to a plethora of celerities over a number of years because he was joking about them being “performing monkeys” for media purposes.

He’s very specific that he would never do this to anyone black, because he was a sports journalist and knew exactly how offensive that would be, and he’s clear on that. He did it in response to “royal baby news”, not “black woman gives birth”.

He says he wasn’t aware of MM’s race. Many many people have said as such. He’s a sports journalist not a celebrity or royal one. We all know full well (those of us who post here regularly and on other specialist topic boards), how frustrating it is that many people with a voice in the media don’t seem to know an awful lot about certain topics/people outside their area of expertise, but get a “general current affairs” platform nevertheless. It’s no different if those media people say something inadvertently negative about a person/topic to them saying something inadvertently positive. “Media trained” media personalities are forever on SM spouting stuff that is offensive /potentially offensive to a percentage of the population, and certainly outside their area of expertise. Gary Linekar being a prime example. It’s very telling to me that James O’Brien, who would not hesitate to condemn Baker, cancel him and shout to the rafters that he’s a racist if he thought he was, believes him.

I’m going to guess most people who post on this board haven’t actually been on the receiving end of racism. I have (55 years worth). I do believe Danny Baker.

Agreed, and as a generally very smart and experienced broadcaster, he really should have known better.

I also can't see the 'exotic' comments as positive either. However, Meghan's later comments about journalists using the N word about her children are wrong and misleading.

PullTheBricksDown · 24/06/2026 09:12

The matcha cup looks like a drain that needs cleaning. Doubt that will get the orders rolling in!

The family photo from 2018 is one of the best I've ever seen. Lively and full of happiness. Charles and Camilla both look very assured and comfortable with the Wales children.

That’s what I thought too ! , I had no idea it was a traditional series of posts that all featured pictures of chimps for famous people, he really should have not included Archie 🤷‍♀️
still I won’t miss him as I didn’t follow him before and I would not follow him now .

jeffgoldblum · 24/06/2026 09:45

Before leaving this topic alone , because it’s as divisive as discussing religion! , the term “exotic “ has different meaning to different people, to many being described as exotic would be a compliment! ,clearly to others it has a more negative connotation 🤷‍♀️
