Why is security needed in the uk but not Europe where they are holidaying?

surely there are risks there too?

To be fair organising meetings at a place that is known for looking after veterans is a natural choice for Invictus. It only looks odd because it has Royal in the name and Harry used to be a working royal. If anyone else was leading Invictus it would be unremarkable.

That's a fair point @MrsLeonFarrell . However , not sure what M would be doing at Invictus planning sessions if it weren't a photo opportunity. But it may never happen.

@BigWillyLittleTodger - I genuinely have no idea who that man is upon whose knee M is sitting. But , I speak as one who wouldn't recognise a Taylor Swift song. There are huge gaps in my knowledge 😂
(It's not to my credit BTW)

Despite all the static in the press and on social media it is clear that for the monarchy the situation is unchanged from the initial statement. Harry and Meghan are making their life abroad but remain members of the family, not the monarchy.

Everything else is sound and fury signifying nothing. No one seriously regards them as on a par with those royals who present the King on official duties. No one with power thinks they represent the UK, occasionally the Foreign Office step in to make that clear when they deem it necessary.

I hope they do meet the King, family reconciliation is a good thing to aim for. But even if they start visiting annually it means nothing in terms of the monarchy, only the family.

Thanks for reiterating this @MrsLeonFarrell - it's good to remember when all the stories are flying about that we are only seeing the spin from the Sussexes.

We have seen nothing from the Palace that changes the King's statement wishing them well in their life abroad.

Because nobody knew they were in Europe.
They didn’t announce it.
Just imagine, if they had kept their flappy mouths shut about their intended ‘visits’ in England they wouldn’t have had any security worries and since the kids would have been In a royal home they would have been utterly safe.
It’s all part of their plan. I agree with numerous fabulous posters on here Meghan and the kids were never coming.

meercat23 · 27/06/2026 21:42

I must confess that I am just a bit disappointed! I was looking forward to seeing Jeff eat that Cheese hat! Ah well. On the other hand, every cloud has a silver lining.

Exactly.

Like most people who actually do have security concerns (and I have both colleagues and family members in that category) you don't tell people details that they don't need to know.

In particular, you don't tell the world in advance what your itinerary is going to be while also pointing out that you don't know if you have security yet.

No-one who is remotely serious about these things acts like that.

Starryfifty · 27/06/2026 21:46

Harry is their father. Why can't he bring them over without Meg?

People always seem to think the British royals are like the Dubai royals (whose men steal children from their ex?wives). I don't think this has ever happened in modern times.

MyAutumnCrow · 27/06/2026 21:56

The Telegraph story by Victoria Ward (‘royal correspondent’) went up at 6pm today which is when I first saw it while scrolling.

Even DP laughed because well, it was so predictable.

‘The Duke of Sussex is reconsidering bringing his wife and children to Britain after learning they will not receive police protection, The Telegraph understands’ …

wow, hilarious.

I’m so so glad that RAVEC have told them to FO and not pandered to the blatant attempts at manipulation.

Also really glad to see it actually confirmed that they’ve been told they won’t get police protection. Of course Harry being the idiot he is wouldn’t announce any of this if he was actually worried about his security (nor would he release a full itinerary), but I am overjoyed that their desperate attempts haven’t been successful.

also so funny they’re trying to make this about the kids, when they would only have been in a royal residence, which is always fully protected. They’re both absolute fools.

Because Meghan might not want to risk him never bringing them back?

Surprised at the bit about Ravec's review being on hold though. I'd have thought they'd have done it by now anyway, but if this is true, and if suggestions it's been done to keep Harry away are right, that would imply some interference from the family, and I though it was insisted that they can't do that?

KittyTinker · 27/06/2026 22:07

I know someone who used to report to RAVEC. He was a mental health nurse/first responder who was responsible for assessing the mental health and well-being of those fixated on the Royal Family.

For example, you'd get men planning to intervene in weddings because they thought the women were in love with them, people who thought they were secret lovechildren, people who thought they WERE the queen etc.

Part of his job was to assess the level of their actual intent/planning capability/source of their MH issues.

The idea that he and his colleagues are somehow manipulating their job is very offensive - these are seriously skilled professionals with more experience in their little fingers than Harry has in his whole body.

Do you have any insight from your connection as to why they don’t just request a restraining order against the fixated person who stalks Harry?

I suspect it’s because it was not deemed a priority, firstly because he is not a person of importance in the U.K. and secondly because there’s no real evidence it would have changed anything.

don’t RAVEC assess the risk each time he is due to visit and provide appropriate security? It’s hard to imagine what a “full risk assessment” is going to bring to the table that isn’t already considered.

maybe if Harry is so worried about his fixated fans he should suggest to his wife they stop inviting them on their faux royal tours and sending them gifts of jam…

AtIusvue · 27/06/2026 22:13

The DM states that RAVEC told them LAST WEEK that he wasn’t getting the review and it was put on hold.

So he’s known since last week, his security concerns are not a priority and no one cares.

Yet he still decided to announce his itinerary when he knew this and hadn’t yet had a response to his requested security detail for this trip.

I suspect, that all the PR that came out over the last week has been brought on by the RAVEC decision (no review) and he was trying to manipulate the Palace/RAVEC by releasing huge details, so that he can claim that his security and that of his kids is under threat because people know his whereabouts etc.

Didn’t work though 😂

You could be right, @elessar - you certainly are with the last paragraph - but if that's the case I wonder why the "pause" hasn't come to anyone's atttention before

Either way there's still far too much "understands", "a source says" and so on for my taste, so yet again we can only wait and seee

A rollercoaster you say? Just the way H&M like it. Drama, speculation and attention.

MrsEmmelineLucas · 27/06/2026 22:27

The BBC will be upset, they had their senior correspondents ready to go, and a top budget.

StartupRepair · 27/06/2026 22:34

Everything they do is just a mess of announcements and contradiction. I reckon they still might all come - that Diana grave photograph is worth a lot.

MyAutumnCrow · 27/06/2026 22:41

So, ‘on holiday in Europe’ … Eugenie & Jack and a villa in Portugal??
