@IcedPurple comment - "The Sussexes had a pretty sweet deal as royals, and all without the restraints and responsibilities Kate and William have. But it still wasn't good enough for them."

I think this is so apposite . Somehow they got a very very great deal of wealth and privilege whilst having some rules to abide by mixed up with - we can't have everything the members of the WRF (especially W&C ) have whilst doing what the hell we like. I'll say again , Prince Philip said "don't forget they are not here to see you they are here to see the Queen" He is often criticised but here I think he absolutely understood how things worked.

H&M could have carved out a fabulous role for themselves within the WRF (IMHO) Unfortunately Detective Hindsight ( who solves all crimes 😊) has shown , H was too silly to know what he had until it was gone and M understimated the sheer implacability of primogeniture. And she overestimated the longevity of hers and H's bankrollability ( with the skills they had ) once they'd given out their gossip / "their truths / downright untruths etc. It's fair enough that she did not see a life for herself within the confines of the WRF, that's understandable , but it now looks like she really didn't have a well planned strategic exit strategy and H believed she could make all things West coast work for them.

Look they're very rich and both of them get airtime when they want it so I'm not going to feel sorry for them , but as others have said with a bit more brains they could , I suspect , have had more.

ETA - just quickly - I suspect a bit cross posted with @wordler
