PR Disasters of the The Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued :

  • So far we have Meg using charity events/sick children/vulnerable adults to merch her fashion, with the launch of her new fashion platform
  • She will be appearing on MasterChef Australia
  • Harry claiming to have had therapy when Archie was born, even though he never sought MH help for his ill wife a few short months earlier.

Harry regurgitating the same old nonsense. I lost my mother at 11....blah blah. Trauma, triggered....with his huge wealth, why couldn't he have built or funded a global mental health organisation? Like (what I think is called) "Better Health" ? He would IMO gain huge respect and would give him a purpose

That's an op-ed piece, fed to a friendly journalist by the Sussexes.

At no point is anything quoted from anyone official at BP or KP.

This is Handrew & Mergie manifesting their vision. They've done this numerous times since 2020. And they're still OutOut.

If Rebecca English did a piece like that I'd tend to believe it. Victoria Ward just writes what the Sussexes tell her.

Ok thanks!! , just irritated! 😠

With all his wealth, privilege, time and contacts he could have done something really positive with his life, and brought about change. He's chosen to remain bitter, vengeful and petulant.

RF won't do anything unfortunately. Look how long it took to strip AMW !

I was thinking about this. Charles is weak . He doesn't want any flack. William will streamline the RF some more and end it then I'm sure.

Camilla meeting with and being photographed with rape victim Giselle Pelecot?
The Queen had a private meeting with Mme Pelicot. She then had a public photo call with her, which will have helped Mme Pelicot sell her book (she was on a book tour).
Camilla speaking to and saying she is a representative of women's abuse?
The Queen has worked with domestic and sexual abuse charities for over 20 years.
Kate and William meeting victims of Southport or Storm Darragh?
The Prince and Princess of Wales met the Southport families in private; a few selected pictures were released later. There were also some photos of them meeting classmates of the children involved.
Charles writing to Southport victims families?
As Head of State, recognition of such an appalling event is usual practice.
William and Kate visiting a soup kitchen and returning to a palace without actually helping anyone homeless?
Visits to charities like this are usually carried out to focus attention on the work of the charity concerned. Frequently a representative of that charity will have the opportunity to speak directly to the public on Kensington Palace social media accounts.
Charles in the repair shop and Coronation Street?
These happened when Charles was Prince of Wales. Presumably he will have been invited on each occasion. The Repair Shop episode (which I saw) tied in with his support for heritage crafts. I don’t know anything about the other.
Charles going to visit Donald Trump but persecuting his brother for associations with his best mate, Epstein.
The King, as Head of State, carries out state visits on behalf of the government.

I cannot speak for others. Only myself.

But the Royal family represent ME. On my behalf they go to charities, businesses, survivors etc. and they showcase the cause, or simply say that we care. Their job is to promote, congratulate, commiserate on behalf of the people they represent. Which is me, until such time as we become republic and they loose their jobs.

Harry and Meghan chose to stop representing me. They chose to become private citizens. But they continue to pretend to represent me while making money off the back of it. I find that uncomfortable.

This is a perfect answer - and much more succinct than mine.

Thank you, @FallenNight

@bluegreygreen that poster doesn't understand the role of the Head of State.

Which makes me think project thaw is a thing and the RF are looking to rehabilitate them? Immune impressed of they are.

But did Harry not say he hated being a working Royal ?
And being in the RF drove Meghan to thoughts of self harm ?

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/04/2026 15:17

My impression is that the thaw narrative is being pushed from places other than the palace. I feel this largely because the press angle changes very quickly and we already know that the palace moves at the same place as an oil tanker. The constant shifts simply don't reflect what we know about palace PR, they are however reflective of the Sussex tendency to produce a statement every time a butterfly claps its wings.

I don't expect William will remove their titles, but I do think he will make it crystal clear that out is out.

I know but they say that and do the opposite. A right pair of pretzels.

Yes and yes. Time and again he's said he didn't want to be part of it, it was too much like hard work and they once sent him on a tour when he was "tired". Meghan seemed to be constantly on the floor weeping and unable to deal with being official royalty.
However. Tours for the publicity and merchandising seems fine.

Yes I think the press like the Sussex’s because whether good or bad they drive clicks , without actual facts they just spin anything that makes people engage.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 17/04/2026 15:22

They will always be “the alternative royals” and maybe there is a place for that

They can never be trusted coming back as working royals - I’m sure that will never happen

Unfortunately they could also cause a lot of problems popping up all over the place in the U.K. - they promote discord and misery - praying he doesn’t get his 24/7 on demand security -

Hopefully they never run out of money and try and come back ( although I’m sure Harry would secretly love to - he’s not fooling anyone ! )

“We’ve tested the playbook, it worked,” a source close to the Sussexes told The Telegraph in Sydney shortly before they prepared to fly back home.
“They’re doing the right thing. Whether you want to call it half in, half out or – as they would probably describe it – just doing what they want to do and doing it in a really positive way, this week has given us reassurance that it is the right course of action. This could absolutely act as a blueprint for the future.”

🙄🙄

The Duke is philosophical "One thing that Harry often says is that the truth will always out,” said one member of his inner circle.

Yes, it sure will!!

jeffgoldblum · 17/04/2026 15:28

MissFenellaPrism · 17/04/2026 15:23

Absolutely.

I will say one thing that disappoints me @MissFenellaPrism! At one time the likes of the express , mirror and daily mail were regarded as tabloids and not to be taken at face value, now it seems the guardian and times and telegraph have joined them ! 🤷‍♀️ it seems “truth” is no longer important and spin and opinion is the norm !
the bbc once thought as the bastion of truth and U.K. values is no better than the other channels, it’s a sad state of affairs all around.

BasiliskStare · 17/04/2026 15:29

As far as the success of the "tour" goes - my view is, they will have seen it as a great success. The VW article in the Telegraph said a Sussex insider said this was being used a template for future tours and the template works.

I don't think the turnout shows this being a rip roaring success. Yes some individuals have said how lovely and meaningful it was of them to come and visit , but apart from the security cost annoyance the impression I get is frankly a fair degree of apathy. & they struggled with ticket sales.

I think those who already support H&M will see this as a big success and showing they can keep up with the Windsors. I don't think anything they have done will change the minds of those who are not supporters. If anything I think the crass commercialisation of their philanthropic visits & the disaster tourism will have entrenched those who aren't supporters & might even have turned a few against them.

I think the controversy over eg the hospital and Bondi beach visits, coupled with what seems to have been the worse than expected ticket sales means the template might not work as well as they hope.

Just my opinion.

None of the press organizations are immune to the lure of getting the most clicks for particular stories.

It’s quite hard to resist the lure of the low rent populist stuff - even for the BBC who make no extra money for the clicks but for the individual who created the piece to sit in the editorial meeting the next day to be told in front of their peers that they had the most read/watched piece, it’s addictive.

I mean, what are they supposed to say. The reaction and crowd size have been disappointing, the decision to merch off charity visits left a sour taste in the mouth but we haven't got any other ideas so we are going to keep going?

They have tried books, documentaries, tv and film production, podcasts, lifestyle selling, visiting charities and giving speeches. Only the last two have shown any kind of viability long term and i expect the status of the places they visit to diminish over the years.

Their problem is that all they have to offer is cut price pseudo royalty, they haven't the talent for anything else. Unless of course Meghan goes back to acting and is ok with small parts and being used to publicise projects.

MissFenellaPrism · 17/04/2026 15:58

The only option is "At home with the Meghans". They're going to have to do a reality show with full access to the children.

MissFenellaPrism · 17/04/2026 16:18

"telling them about her very hard life" 😭

My other half has worked alongside Catherine (not as an equal but as part of a team for two charities) over a decade and says she is engaged, interested, and gives a lot of time to whatever it is she has committed to.
Doesn’t just turn up, wave, and leave. Is a natural with people and an absolute asset.
We are close to Southport and we know that William and Catherine’s support, private and public visits were really valued, especially to the parents involved.
Also, as an aside, even more beautiful in real life.
She has been trolled relentlessly herself. The sugar-filled argument that she ‘made up’ having cancer is a disservice to the medical teams and hospitals who treated her.
I have no problem at all with anyone supporting or preferring Meghan. I’m not a fan for a number of reasons, but that’s just my opinion. We are all allowed one.
There is a huge difference between supporting a person and attacking another.
