PR Disasters of the The Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued :

  • So far we have Meg using charity events/sick children/vulnerable adults to merch her fashion, with the launch of her new fashion platform
  • She will be appearing on MasterChef Australia
  • Harry claiming to have had therapy when Archie was born, even though he never sought MH help for his ill wife a few short months earlier.

I mean, what are they supposed to say. The reaction and crowd size have been disappointing, the decision to merch off charity visits left a sour taste in the mouth but we haven't got any other ideas so we are going to keep going?

They have tried books, documentaries, tv and film production, podcasts, lifestyle selling, visiting charities and giving speeches. Only the last two have shown any kind of viability long term and i expect the status of the places they visit to diminish over the years.

Their problem is that all they have to offer is cut price pseudo royalty, they haven't the talent for anything else. Unless of course Meghan goes back to acting and is ok with small parts and being used to publicise projects.

I do agree.

They were never going to say anything negative or indeed nothing at all (which right now might have been preferable).

They really do believe that if they say its been a rip roaring success then that makes it true in their minds, they don't recognise their mistakes. Most of us are all left regularly scratching our heads going WTF was that.

Everything they have tried has pretty much bombed because they just want to make as much money as possible on minimal effort. The Women's conference was a good example, it was a grab the money and go, minimal effort and on to the more important event, PR shots at the Rugby.

That the source of that article had to get in there that they may even bring back a faux royal tour to the U.K., in the RF's own back yard, to me is just a big two fingers up at the RF and goady as.
Maybe this is what they want to turn Invictus Birmingham into, a faux royal tour and we may all end up stumping up for the security.

Why is it even on the BBC news? They rarely report on other royal visits unless a state one yet they get their own report? I’m so sick of them never being called out for anything by the MSM and in fact are constantly promoted.

Yes, I don’t recall the BBC reporting much or any of Sophie’s work, which is really worthy and done on behalf of the state. The Beeb have certainly dialled back their total coverage in general since the death of QEII, yet these two wastes of space get coverage. The BBC covered their rooftop art installation as well, which had nothing to do with UK news or anything internationally relevant. And let’s not forget them facilitating Harry’s post security JR whinge fest, where not a single challenging question was asked. Sick of people claiming these two are not being given a privileged position in public life, when they are two “private citizens” who are losers, but who apparently have the state broadcaster at their beck and call.

Ohpleeeease · 17/04/2026 16:42

Also, as an aside, even more beautiful in real life.

I’ve also heard this from a friend of a friend in the armed forces. Service personnel who met Catherine all got a bit besotted by her, she is apparently radiantly beautiful up close.

I couldn't agree more. The coverage of this tour was like a PR exercise for the Sussexes. I've not known working royals to get this kind of coverage. As you say, Sophie's work is about VAWG, and she had a very harrowing event in Sudan, talking to women and girls who were victims of rape. Not reported on the BBC news. Nor the coverage of William spending hours at homeless projects, or Camilla visiting women's refuges.

Sorry I’ve been a bit absent because I’m really annoyed at starmer and the latest attempt at distancing himself from the mandelson scandal! , but obviously I won’t bring this further onto the thread as it’s unrelated.

I think that 'H' was a little in love with her once upon a time.

BasiliskStare · 17/04/2026 17:07

@IAmATorturedPoet - I think owing to their unpopularity in the UK not even H&M would have the brass neck to try to do a faux royal tour over here. I think it would take more than stumping up for the security - more martial law 😂

On the other hand I would hope this tour will mean the men in grey suits make sure , no matter how much pa bothering he does , KC will not open the Invictus games Can you imagine him being photographed with Meghan and her clothing being advertised for the commission. Even KC can't be that soft about his son. I think a diplomatic - no H you were given this as your project , we'd hate to take anything away from you - would suffice .

Maybe not romantically but he definitely had very warm feelings towards Catherine.

Just seen Megs merched wardrobe being referred to as a trauma closet 😂

It's kind of relevant in the sense that M&H and the royal protocol issues probably seem like small fish to fry while the Mandelson business is going on, but it all goes to the character of these men and women. Who has the backbone to stand up for moral integrity? Who has a clear sense of ethical responsibility? It's about government, governance, and having 'the right stuff'.

Also, soon enough Harry's 'Pa' will be meeting Trump in his official capacity as Head of State, at the request of HM Government. This needs to be a meeting that is laser focused, carefully planned, and diplomatically tactful. Trump doesn't need any more ammo handing to him that helps him take the piss out the UK and its Head of State, on camera.

@BasiliskStare there is a part of me that thinks they actually would have the brass neck and I’d be ready and waiting with my 🍿🍿 to see how that goes for them 😂

That's a great article @AtIusvue 👏. "A masterclass in tacky" , indeed.

Shame he turned on her.

Now he seems to utterly despise her. They were very close. He and his wife have been unbelievably cruel towards her

They have, to quite a shocking extent. That's why they'll never be welcomed back. William will never forget that.

Huge success in an 'Amandaland' way!

I think Hazard was slightly in love with Catherine, but also saw William and Catherine as his substitute mummy and daddy. That’s why, in Spare, he’s so whiny about them not having time for him once George came along; and also why his words (and those of his proxies like Scobie) about Catherine sound like the script of a spurned ex - she was cold, she was a bitch, she’s just there to churn out babies and is not actually loved by her husband, etc etc.

Stepford Wife, no personality, not warm and welcoming, mean about the bridesmaids dresses, oh my god, you'd think she was bloody Cruella De Vil

As far as the success of the "tour" goes - my view is, they will have seen it as a great success. The VW article in the Telegraph said a Sussex insider said this was being used a template for future tours and the template works.

I don't think the turnout shows this being a rip roaring success. Yes some individuals have said how lovely and meaningful it was of them to come and visit , but apart from the security cost annoyance the impression I get is frankly a fair degree of apathy. & they struggled with ticket sales.

I think those who already support H&M will see this as a big success and showing they can keep up with the Windsors. I don't think anything they have done will change the minds of those who are not supporters. If anything I think the crass commercialisation of their philanthropic visits & the disaster tourism will have entrenched those who aren't supporters & might even have turned a few against them.

I think the controversy over eg the hospital and Bondi beach visits, coupled with what seems to have been the worse than expected ticket sales means the template might not work as well as they hope.

Just my opinion.

I would agree. This visit can be spun as a success at the moment (I'm reserving judgement as we've seen how things can balls up in the week or so following).

But the crowd turnout was poor and will have been disappointing. It won't really have won them any new fans, and it won't have BIG names clamouring to work with them.

Plus, they're back into the DM judgement, the Sentable claim hasn't gone away, As ever is just stagnating..and frankly, time. As time goes on, they just naturally become more irrelevant.
