This time to Jordan. What do they bring to it, exactly? What is their role? To bring attention to the issue of Syrian refugees? Jordan is dealing with them fine.

What are they there for? In what capacity?

Harry and Meghan land in Jordan as they begin two-day visit

Prince Harry and Meghan today began a busy two-day visit to Jordan - one of Prince William and Kate's favourite countries - as they met people working with refugees.

I suppose they think it raises their flagging profiles. It's cringe-inducing though.

The World Health Organisation send lots of celebrities on things like this. It draws attention to problems that the news either ignores or has got bored with.

True but to quote many posters , going to the Middle East, at a time like this, surely it’s an extremely bad look !

I don't know enough about the political details of specific Middle Eastern countries to comment on their timing.

Incidentally I wish we could avoid responding to the press calling them royal tours such blatant clickbait.

MaggieMar · 25/02/2026 13:02

I can’t get worked up over this. Anything that raises awareness of refugee issues is good isn’t it? Especially in a navel-gazing American population.

People have said on other threads recently we should stop paying the royal family. I think we’d lose out as they do some good work.

Here are two people trying to make a difference - sure it benefits them too, but I’d rather they try and do something good than make vacuous TV shows about their personal lives.

Unfortunately they put out their own pr announcing it previously! , we do know they are visiting Jordan initially , just as William has returned And we do know that their was much criticism of the York daughters for merching themselves there recently!
this was badly thought out pr .

Did the York sisters visit Jordan? I'm not sure all Middle Eastern countries are the same, as I said I know little about it.

Regardless I can't get worked up about the Sussexes doing a WHO celebrity tour, even if they get more publicity than the rest of the celebrity circuit. It gives them something to do at least.

Normally I’d ignore it too!
but I’m intrigued by the double standards.

obviously not from you.

DisforDarkChocolate · 25/02/2026 13:11

I wonder if they'll shake hands with poor people through a fence or ride on the back of a car looking like feudal lords?

Is that the sort of royal tour you're expecting them to copy @ParrotsAndLions?

Maybe it's because the York sisters are directly connected to someone we know has less than perfect financial morals? Celebrity culture on the other hand does this a lot and that is where Harry and Meghan are now, celebrities for hire.

Not really 😆 That was a disaster.

This one, I can see a bit more reason for this trip - their foundation gave grants tho WHO and a refugee organisation in Jordan

And that would be perfectly acceptable but not while using their royal titles that give them access and privileges normal celebrities don’t get.

That makes more sense.

The article explains why they were there and who invited them.

'The couple travelled to Jordan at the invitation of the World Health Organization.

The couple are on a two-day visit to learn more about humanitarian efforts by the Jordanian authorities and a range of agencies supporting the health and wellbeing of Syrians and Palestinians who have sought sanctuary in Jordan over the decades.

At the roundtable discussion earlier, there were senior figures from UN agencies like UNWRA, UNHCR, World Food Programme, Unicef and diplomatic attendees from countries like the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Canada the EU.'

ParrotsAndLions · 25/02/2026 13:20

I guess the WHO thinks they are useful, then.

They’ve gone so they can look like good blokes; full of humanitarian goodwill. They need to look closer to home.

StormyLandCloud · 25/02/2026 13:39

Here we go again, self serving altruistic virtue signaling from the grifters, performing to the cameras again 🙄 using death and destruction for their personal gain … no doubt Meghan has had her hand out for some jumble sale reject clothes again

WHO should be ashamed of themselves wasting money funding this pseudo tour when the funds could be used for those who actually need it. It’s quite sickening really

corblimeyguvnr · 25/02/2026 14:23

Disaster tourists again.

corblimeyguvnr · 25/02/2026 14:31

The article says they are learning not doing anything other than visiting although they have donated money - unfortunately not only to refugees.

I think there's a difference between visiting a refugee camp and visiting some of your disgraced father's extremely wealthy ME mates to waffle on about nonsense you know nothing about and mysteriously come into a lot of money as a result.

They could go protest against the treatment of migrants by ICE in their own beloved city of LA.
