Camilla Meeting Gisèle Pelicot

I'm quite taken aback by the this. The timing just in the middle of AMW sordid developments is particularly bad.

Ms Pelicot should not be anyone's poster woman for virtue signalling support to female victims of SA.

Camilla saying she read her book in the last two days, couldn't put it down and her 'case' shocked her is pretty sickening considering what's been going on under their noses.

This should never be a PR exercise.

I think I'm officially done with the RF now. Permanently tone-deaf and worlds away from the reality.

You do realise this meeting would have been set up before the events recently?

You do realise this meeting would have been set up before the events recently?

You do realise their advisers should've advised her better and rearranged it instead of using it as the RF's PR?

Giselle Pelicot said how touched shed been to receive a letter from Camilla ages ago. If she is happy to meet it's up to her. She has agency.

Miranda65 · 23/02/2026 23:09

Don't be ridiculous, OP. Queen Camilla has been working in this field for years, supporting appropriate charities, and Mme Pelicot is clearly delighted to meet her.
Not everything revolves around AMW, nor should it.
This is exactly what the Queen should be doing, given her high profile.

Crunk · 23/02/2026 23:09

I also thought this was poor timing today. It could have been a private meeting if the intention was to offer support.

GrooveArmada · 23/02/2026 23:11

She could've met her privately, but no, it's all over Sky News. I find it extremely distasteful.

And where is Camilla speaking up for the Epstein victims then? I won't hold my breath.

Why on earth shouldn’t she continue with this engagement (that would have been arranged a while ago).
Camilla has long been a supportive advocate for abused women and I have a personal opinion as to why that “could” be (nothing to do with Charles, before anyone jumps on that).
Camilla is not responsible for Andrew’s behaviour so it’s business as usual.

GrooveArmada · 23/02/2026 23:13

It's not about responsibility for AMW, don't be obtuse.

It's utterly ridiculous for anyone from this family to come out in public to support victims of SA right now, this level of hypocrisy should not be supported.

For all her faults, Camilla has been a longtime advocate for better support for women victims of domestic abuse (the longstanding rumor is that this is from personal experience). She has spoken often and openly about recognizing it, getting help for it - she’s done as far down the path of advocacy as her role allows. Gisele pelicot herself refuses to be a poster child for marital rape. If you’ve read her book you’ll know the nuanced position she takes. I think this was a meeting of two people, similarly-minded on the subject of marital rape, one the recipient of the Legion d’Honneur and the other in a position to bestow the same in her country. I found it an unquestionably positive diplomatic step, even without Andrew’s crimes hovering in the background. We already know what Camilla thinks of Andrew.

What does Camilla think of Andrew? I never saw her comments.

It would have been appallingly rude of Camilla to cancel a meeting with Gisele Pelicot, who would have had her travel and plans long arranged, just because her BIL has been arrested.

PollyBell · 23/02/2026 23:20

Isn't it up to her if she wants to meet Camilla maybe she is sick and tired of people thinking they have a right to an opinion on what she does or doesn't do

They public do not own her

unsync · 23/02/2026 23:21

It's not virtue signalling, QC has been involved in DA and SA for years. She was assaulted herself as a young woman and has spoken of this.

Mme Pelicot doesn't strike me as anyone's poster woman and I personally think the timing couldn't be better. Listen to Mme Pelicot's interviews right from the beginning in French and not interpreted, she's formidable - a lot of nuances get lost in translation.

It's about time VAWAG was uppermost in the news cycle.

Plus the world does not revolve around Andrew as much as the public want it too, they will move on to the next outrage soon

Haggisfish3 · 23/02/2026 23:24

I agree with pp. couldn’t be better timing in some ways and Camilla is a famous supporter of domestic abuse charities and work.

It's utterly ridiculous to expect Camilla to cancel plans to meet Giselle Pelicot. Camilla meeting her wasn't on a whim, Camilla had already written to her some time ago and presumably they have been in contact since.

She is not responsible for her brother-in-law's behaviour. Are you fully aware of and responsible for your own brother in law's actions? I know I'm not.

Lastly, it needs to be remembered that AMW, however disgusting he is, has not been arrested for any sexual crimes whatsoever. He was arrested for misconduct in public office regarding him passing information when he was trade envoy to Epstein.

BoxingHare · 23/02/2026 23:27

I was impressed by this meeting, and think it's daft to use AMW's fall as a reason for everything to grind to a halt.

@canklesmctacotits and @unsync have it right.

The redoubtable Giséle Pelicot is promoting her important memoir A Hymn To Life: Shame Has To Change Sides.

If a meeting had previously been arranged with Camilla then why knock it on the head? C’s book club will further amplify the message and sales.

Andrew should not have stopped this. Nor did he. Do not blame the woman for the man’s actions.

wordler · 23/02/2026 23:30

It might seem surprising but it’s a coincidence - Gisèle Pelicot is on an international book tour promoting her memoir. She was all over the US news last week with several moving in-depth interviews across various publications.

This week the book tour has moved to the UK - Camilla met her after big book promotion event in London - all of this will have been planned months ago.

Ms Pelicot has spoken about how moved she was getting a letter from Camilla last year. She was so moved by Camilla’s letter she has it framed in her home office.

Camilla didn’t say she’d finished the book in the LAST two days which would indeed have seemed like odd timing. She said the book was so compelling she read the whole book in two days flat.

Considering Camilla has been working with charities in this field for decades and considering how much Ms Pelicot has appreciated her correspondence and support it would have been awful to cancel their event because of Andrew.

Enrichetta · 23/02/2026 23:31

Where to even start…

  • Camilla has along term track record of supporting charities that help victims of domestic abuse. I think the only other charity that has equal priority for her is osteoporosis-which killed her mother.
  • The meeting with Gisele Pelicot will have been arranged a long time ago, to coincide with the launch of her book.
  • If Camilla had cancelled, it rightly would have been considered extremely rude.
  • The purpose of the meeting is to publicise GP’s book and promote the issues associated with her horrific experience at the hand of her husband and those rapists - so why would they want to keep it private?
  • If Madame Pelicot had wanted to cancel the meeting she would have done so.
ArkaParka · 23/02/2026 23:47

Ms Pelicot should not be anyone's poster woman for virtue signalling support to female victims of SA.

What a distasteful thing to say. Is it really so hard to believe that someone who has been a long-time supporter of domestic abuse charities actually supports victims of SA?

BillyBites · 23/02/2026 23:55

One could also argue that one of the most effective ways to show support for the victims in Epstein’s vile world is to continue to shine a light on charities that deal with such horrors.

BillyBites · 23/02/2026 23:56

And don’t call me obtuse. That’s rude and uncalled for.

sittingonabeach · 24/02/2026 00:06

@GrooveArmada I’m sure the RF won’t miss you especially after this thread

SemperIdem · 24/02/2026 00:08

You’re being completely ridiculous. Hope that helps.
