This is the third thread discussing the case Prince Harry (and 6 others) are bringing against the Daily Mail (Associated Newspapers) for alleged unlawful information gathering (UIG).

Thread 1

Thread 2

Since the celebrities have given evidence, there has been limited direct reporting from court; what there is has mostly been on this link

Oh dear H has really fucked it up

I CANNOT WAIT to read judgment re: his credibility!

So if Harry has perjured himself, as it seems he might have done, is it likely anyone will do anything about that?

Of course not. No one ever challenges him. Watching the way PH and AMW have got away with things just shows how deferential the government and media still are.

I believebit was Nicklin in charge ofbgje earlier trial where MM committed perjury. She got off with a written apology

jeffgoldblum · 01/04/2026 15:35

At this point nothing would satisfy me unless everytime he says “my truth”, someone else says “you mean your lies!” .

noonames · 01/04/2026 15:42

Was Meghan in court and lying under oath or was it more a mistake in a written submission - does that make a difference? And that her mistake was not massively relevant to the outcome of the case, whereas Harry lying under oath in a way could affect the verdict of the court.

No mistake, she lied and knauf had email evidence that she lied in court, for some reason the judge accepted her bullshit “ I forgot “ excuse! 😡

Yes I know she lied (and Harry’s email about it all having to be deniable was a bit of a giveaway iirc 🤪). I just wondered if she got away with it partly because she wasn’t there in person answering questions under oath, and partly because it wasn’t really that important, as the case was really about copyright. Whereas Harry seems to have lied under oath, in person and in court, about stuff that is very material to the case.

noonames · 01/04/2026 16:31

Or maybe she was there in person and under oath, I don’t know 🤔

From what I understand it wasn't all that significant in terms of the legal case, which rested on copyright. It doesn't suggest a great deal of integrity, but wasn't important to the outcome.

I'm not sure a lot of H's evidence this time round was worth much either. Lots of emoting about how awful.the press have been, how none of his friends could possibly have met anything slip even by accident... it's all opinion, isn't it? Very little that's factual?

noonames · 01/04/2026 17:41

Agree that Meghan’s lie was immaterial. But just wondered whether Harry’s - it must be UIG because there were no journalists in my social circle - when he definitely did - was a bit more relevant to the case and therefore more frowned upon.

ThePoshUns · 01/04/2026 18:40

Oh thanks @CraftyGin for that. Some new information there to me. I really can’t see any evidence in that to support any of the victims claims that I can see. The Hacked off lot , don’t come out of that well and seem obsessed, crazily so.

Starryfifty · 01/04/2026 18:43

The messages between PH and CG are very chummy. It looks like they were very close. He comes across as a lazy, entitled twat. Moaning to a journalist about a charity dinner 🙄

I'd be very surprised if they do, nonames
If they prosecuted everyone who lied in court there's be no time for anything else, the only real difference with H&M being that they make such a thing about truth, compassion and the rest and presumably expect to be taken seriously

Honestly! What’s that about a life of service Harry? Was it getting in the way of you getting pissed up with your mates?

He sounds like proper dickhead, no surprise there though.

MrsLeonFarrell · 01/04/2026 19:39

It's hard to escape the impression that Hacked Off were furious that The Mail haven't been caught doing anything illegal and have persuaded celebrities to throw everything they can at the wall in the hope something sticks. I Judy don't see any evidence that implicates The Mail though.

Justdancevance · 01/04/2026 19:43

Sherborne didn’t want his gravy train to end either.

Most of them are has beens with expensive tastes so were lured with the promise of easy money.

bluegreygreen · 01/04/2026 19:52

Thanks again @CraftyGin

I think this is new - at least I don't remember it being reported elsewhere (the email story).

Ms Sangani admitted that she did not witness Mr Burrows’s signature and largely based the statement on memos written by Johnson.
This unconventional process was adopted because she did not want the private investigator to have her contact details. No, she admitted to the judge: she had not considered going through his lawyer.
That she had relied so heavily on a man who had no legal training was baffling.
To the apparent incredulity of the judge, she also admitted she had given Johnson an official email address from her law firm, gunnercooke, and put him on a temporary contract.
The email account was simply “a question of prestige” to make Johnson look more professional, the court was told.
“Look more professional to who?”
The account was allegedly used to communicate solely with Ms Sangani and other members of the research team. His colleagues, in other words.
Mysteriously, the account and its entire contents have disappeared.
As that revelation hung in the air, the judge sat back in his chair and gazed at Johnson.

This summary is just gobsmacking when you see it all written down in one place!

Wow.

And DS summed up complaining that documents from the early noughties were missing.

ThePoshUns · 01/04/2026 20:26

I’m listening to Betrayal on audiobook. If it hasn’t been mentioned Harry became involved in the legal proceedings after Elton John invited him and Meghan to his villa in France ( after they declined to go to Balmoral as Archie was too young to fly, although was old enough to fly to France.) The other guest at Elton’s villa was David Sherborne and the rest they say is history..

bluegreygreen · 01/04/2026 21:27

Thanks @ThePoshUns.

Yes, that's been mentioned. It was some time after that when Harry contacted DL and she became involved.

It seems clear that Hacked Off / Sherborne wanted PH and DL involved as they were currently more high profile than the others (and DL had lost a son, as per the horrible email from Evan Harris).

Exact PH and DL both totally ‘elevated’ the claim hugely in different ways which was the intention to raise the profile so much to spook ANL into settling before court - as basically the others LH, SF, SH, DF are yesterday’s ‘z’ listers that no one in the public domain has any warmth for (if they even knew who they even were) PH and DL made this case possible.
