I think there are better prospects of a conviction in this than on the sex stuff.

I suspect any prison sentence would involve special conditions though…

They actually said they "understand" that Charles wasn't told, which isn't the same as stating it as a fact, but never mind ... someone might believe it Hmm

Even if they were told, it seems unlikely they'd have done anything about it - can't see Charles texting Andrew urgently to get on a plane to the nearest non-extradition country.

I'm getting ads for Pizza Express on this thread...

AMW arrested …

Arrested on his birthday AND the day he presumably gets his state pension 🤣

Let’s hope he doesn’t get Legal Aid.

I don’t know that he has the calmness to do that. Even if he’s advised to do that I think he’s the type to snap and give a “no, what happened is…” type answer.

Emily Maitliss wasn’t pushing like a police officer will and he was getting irritated and ended up saying far more than he obviously meant to (and he clearly didn’t think through the repercussions of his words).

He didn't have a rottweiler lawyer by his side though in the tv interview.

NewspaperTaxis · 19/02/2026 12:44

Was it last night or this morning that Sir Keir Starmer was answering questions about whether Andrew should be arrested or some such thing, he replied 'the law has to run its course'... that suggests someone knew what was coming.

Not sure the law has to arrest someone to go through their emails - I think they can do that for all sorts of reasons; like if you put the wrong items in the wrong wheelie bin. I got the impression Surrey Council were hacking my email and nobody's ever arrested me - then again, whether you can use that as evidence in court is another thing, as opposed to spying on someone.

Interesting parallel news underreported - in the Met you now have to declare whether you are a freemason; or is that law yet to be passed? It makes a difference given the Royal Family's links to freemasons. I mean, the late Prince Philip was high up among the freemasons but don't you know, in the reams and reams and reams of press coverage following his death, none of the papers saw fit to mention it. It was only the Surrey freemasons who drew it to my attention with a piece in the freemason-friendly Surrey Advertiser, mourning his passing.

SadTimesInFife · 19/02/2026 12:44

"Put your trousers on, sunshine, you're nicked!" ..said the arresting officer, while all his envious colleagues were heard sniggering in the background.

Glitchymn1 · 19/02/2026 12:44

And on his birthday 🤭

BemusedAmerican · 19/02/2026 12:45

If I were Charles, I would get Royal Lodge a spiritual cleansing, not move into it.

Let's see what happens with Fergie.

NautilusLionfish · 19/02/2026 12:47

Good. Its interesting though that the UK and a few EU nations seem to be the ones finally pursuing these odious men. Despite many things happening on American, despite a lot of "push" noise from Dems, etc, there seems to be a lot of noise but no action on that side of the pond. Curious

Thedom · 19/02/2026 12:47

Finally !

I hope this is the catalyst for unsealing the trade envoy files, I think the government will come under enormous pressure now get those released !

I don’t believe this will ever come to trial though, I wouldn’t be surprised if he won’t be around !

Whatever the King's underlying motivations for that - one can only hope they were honourable - it can be presented as him wanting to ensure the victim was recompensed, rather than bailing AMW out.

I guess we can agree that neither of us can know KCIII motivations then.
Personally, I cannot imagine loaning a family member £4M to give to a person who was claiming historical sexual abuse if I thought he was innocent of crime.
But I was not a King to be nor a member of a Firm which must be protected.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 19/02/2026 12:50

Anyone know when it'll be Mandelsons' turn?

NautilusLionfish · 19/02/2026 12:50

And the king said?.....The law must take its course

Ebok1990 · 19/02/2026 12:43

He didn't have a rottweiler lawyer by his side though in the tv interview.

The funny thing about the Maitless interview is that on paper I'm not sure Andrew said anything that incriminating, which is why he was happy with it initially.

There was no 'Gotcha!' moment where Maitless said 'But hang on, you said a minute ago you'd never met Ms Guiffre' or some such thing.

But Andrew's boorish tone did it for him, for me that was the eye-opener. Referring to being in Tramps but saying the story about him paying for drinks couldn't be true in that instance 'because he doesn't carry money'. Charming! His dismissive reference to an ordinary 'hunting party' - not very relatable. Smirking that he would remember being in Pizza Express that day - because a person of his standing would remember being in a venue like that. As in, it's not the Savoy, is it. Being 'too compassionate' to ditch Epstein just like that.

That all said, despite there being no smoking gun at the time, these quotes later did for him when the emails came out.

Oddly, there are no references to anyone else ever seeing him at Pizza Express, nobody getting out their phones to snap him, not from staff or customers. So, is it possible that his using the word 'pizza' was some sort of cute or arrogant code to signal to his co-conspirators - if the word 'pizza' was code for something else?

Zippedydodah · 19/02/2026 10:11

I bet buggerall happens.
The king is hardly going to stand by after years of collusion with AMW’s activities and let him be prosecuted, is he?
There must be implications for other members of the royal family who knew exactly what was going on.

Buggerall is exactly what will happen to any of them until most of my generation (40's) is dead and the embarrassing deference stops. There's still hope for younger people to see past the the shiny crowns and see them for what they are (the perpetuation of the class system)

mumofoneAloneandwell · 19/02/2026 12:53

is this the main thread on this topic?

cant help but wonder what atrocious public policy is being pushed through whilst the world looks at the sweaty nonce 🫩

BemusedAmerican · 19/02/2026 12:53

Interesting article in US NPR this am explaining why there are such limited consequences in the US.

crasenda · 19/02/2026 12:54

Regarding the King not being informed in advance of the arrest, am I wrong or did I understand that the police cannot enroach Royal lands without the monarch's approval, or something like that? Is Wood Farm on such land?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/02/2026 12:54

MoiraPlunkett · 19/02/2026 12:43

I can't see it either, MoiraPlunkett, but only because Andrew skipping may look even worse, with little chance of shutting this down

This way the whole thing can be choreographed to give the appearance of "doing something", while avoiding any further comment and hoping to shackle the media in case it affects a trial

And regardless of what evidence exists, if a trial ever happens I'll eat my hat

Edited to add you're right about police needing Charles's permission to access royal properties, cresenda, and in fairness that wouldn't necessarily have to involve them arresting his brother
However that would depend on a belief that he "didn't know", and he's tried that one rather too often for it to be trusted any more

JustAnotherWhinger · 19/02/2026 12:22

They are in Royal Lodge and the new residence so it’s definitely given them access.

the fact they are searching Royal Lodge suggests to me that although he moved to the new place RL hasn’t been emptied.

they did say when he moved that some of his stuff was still in RL. Some felt that Charles was fed up and turfed him out "immediately" which was at night. Who knows.

I do hope they do a special episode of 24 Hours In Police Custody for this!

Absolutely brilliant 😂😂😂

MrsFinkelstein · 19/02/2026 12:57

Good. Just need America to start taking this seriously and start arresting and charging perpetrators there too.

RainbowBagels · 19/02/2026 11:29

At one point, and he even mentioned it in his lying interview, he was representing the NSPCC and said he 'knew how to spot' child sex abuse. Yet he didnt notice very young girls giving 'massages' just wandering around? The RF all knew. They did nothing.
As an aside, Im watching BBC news. Tessa Dunlop is my new hero.. She is really going for it. And she is a Monarchist and Royal historian. She is really saying what I want to say. Good for her. I hope she is broadcast all over the BBC news.

She’s very very good.
