Andrew - continuing his effort to end the Monarchy

Another new story on Andrew today. Photo's have emerged showing that on Epstein's desk, there were emails regarding Epstein paying debts owed by Andrew/Sarah to staff:

Why on Earth was a Prince of England having his staff paid by a sex trafficker?
Doesn't seem "too honourable" to me.

Epstein Had Emails from Staff of Ex-Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson on His Desk in Newly Shared Photos

New photos from Jeffrey Epstein's New York home appear to show an email exchange between former staffers for ex-Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

The MPs are not powerless to act - they are choosing not to.

For change we need to elect better candidates.

You're right about them choosing not to act, wordler, but I don't know where we'd find better candidates, when IME of too many of them the kind of people who lust after the job are the very last I'd want actually doing it

In fairness I have known a couple who seemed to be going into it for all the right reasons, but even they "went native" once elected when they saw all the goodies available to them

AmplePlayer · 03/02/2026 00:46

I see that Andrew has dropped out of the headlines but Fergie is still very much up there, its getting old now.

Bunnycat101 · 03/02/2026 06:44

At best, the whole thing is showing very questionable judgement and at worst criminal activity which shouldn’t be ignored. There’s obviously a goldmine of emails which will be slowly dripped out and they can’t really just continue to hide Andrew away and hope it all disappears. I’m shocked that Fergie took her daughters for lunch with Epstein even with the child sex offending changes. Anyone sane would have kept their children away even if they were enmeshed financially as she was.

I also wonder though what else is in the emails. It must suit a number of rich and powerful men for the attention to be on Andrew and not them.

simpsonthecat · 03/02/2026 07:05

Well...Andrew has always been a useful idiot hasn't he

Yes the emphasis is on Sarah at the moment but it will be back to him in time

So essentially the people of this country have absolutely no power. The democratically elected MPs are powerless to act on some of the most serious allegations against the RF in decades. There seems to be no will to change any of it.

They're not actually powerless. They're just choosing not to act.

In many ways it's similar to the shambles that is the child maintenance system. They could act and sort it, but successive governments haven't. The last big change was when NRP's owed the Sec of State the maintenance if the RP was on benefits. The amount owed by non-payers got so big that something had to be done... so they said the RPs could just keep the money. The money they know mostly doesn't get paid (but now helpfully feeds into the benefit bashing of 'and some get thousands in maintenance on top').

There's also the fact the prescriptions exemptions haven't changed, bar the one addition of cancer patients, since its creation in the 60s. The criteria for the list was conditions that had a known and reliable medication. The invention of asthma inhalers, epi-pens and other life saving drugs has happened since then so there is now no logic in the list.

MPs pick and choose what they get involved in. Either based on what pies they have their fingers in or based on what they think enough of the public actually care about. They could easily get involved in this but won't - too much scrutiny on a man in AMW's position risks scrutiny on (mostly) men in their own positions.

How can a statue cost £46 million? How big is it going to be? What's it made of?

Wait, will it be made of gold like the famous Christmas message piano?

"What's it made of?". Marmalade, surely.

One would hope so.

Just out of interest, if the public were interested in seeing AMW prosecuted firstly for alleged corruption in office, what is the mechanism that would trigger that?

How many letters to MPs must be written?

Then what would happen?

What are the steps?

JustAnotherWhinger · 03/02/2026 07:37

Isn't there a set number on the government petitions site whereby if a petition hits it then they must discuss it?

Could be a way of doing it perhaps?

KnickerlessParsons · 03/02/2026 08:10

I hope the £46m statue is a better likeness of TLQ than the Kensington Palace statue of Diana is of her.

There was I ne about discussing republicanism, which I think was the wrong question. It should have been just to compel MPs to debate Royal financial and other affairs.

Bunnycat101 · 03/02/2026 09:02

46 million is outrageous and a complete waste of money when things are so financially strained. I’m sure you could get a pretty good statue for £1m

simpsonthecat · 03/02/2026 09:04

An interesting interview this morning with Andrew Lownie. He feels vindicated because some of what he wanted to put in his book was stopped by the publishers and now it is in the news, he scrubbed a whole chapter on Mandelson for instance. He also thinks there is more to come out.

And he says that the Monarchy is at a fork in the road and this has had a profound impact on them. And they need to be addressing it. Particularly what they know, when they knew it, and what they are going to do about it. He says it is a crisis that won't go away. And if the pressure becomes more on Andrew from the US Congress to testify or the Met, the Palace have no choice but to speak out.

I think it’s 100,000. Pretty sure that could be done !

JustAnotherWhinger · 03/02/2026 09:10

I wonder if the MPs seeming lack of interest is because any massive changes that involved removing the monarchy or vastly changing it will also involve serious discussions and changes to our political system, because of the links between them, and they're actually worried about the removal of the gravy train that many of them ride?

There were certainly some things in the book that I'd never heard of. I knew about Epstein's connections with Trump, for example, but the revelation about Melania was new.

I've signed a few of those over the years and TBH even when a debate gets triggered if MPs aren't minded or leant on to debate it's just pretty much nodded through, done and dusted in a few minutes...

HMG wouldn't have set up the facility up if they thought it might achieve anything.

Surely the best course to take now is to quietly shelve the project?

I’d definitely sign! How do you get one started?

I found it interesting that the moment when Republic UK were about to launch what I think was an independent private prosecution (?) , not quite sure of correct term or precise details, KC3 stripped PA of his titles and he became AMW. Or maybe that was just coincidence? Who knows?

The article talks of a tranquil place to reflect on an extraordinary life. If I happened to be in a park where there was a statue of QE2, my first thoughts would be Why the F**k didn't you sort out your disgusting son Andrew?

I would too and I am pretty sure the 100,000 could be reached in a day .
I know that people say it’s a waste of Paliament’s time and that AMW will never inherit the Throne but I honestly think he should be removed from the LOS if only for the optics . I cannot envisage any country having an issue with that so surely it wouldn’t be too time consuming .
He ( and Harry ) should also be removed as COS .

I think he said at the time the book came out the MW stuff had the potential to end the monarchy and the more that comes to light, the more I think he's right.

Frustratingly at the end of his book Norman Baker hints at material known to the press (and himself) on C3 and W which can't be published due to legalities.

The more we get to know the more convinced I am that this farce should have been ended voluntarily by the Windsors when E2 died thereby keeping at least a shred of their dignity.

Absolutely!

According to that Beeb article;

“The government has set a provisional construction budget of between £23m and £46m excluding VAT for the project, with the money for it coming from public funds”

This is utterly mind-bogglingly outrageous!

If there has to be a concrete tribute to the late QE2, it should be in the form of a new riding centre for the disabled that is funded in perpetuity or a similar amenity for the under-privileged.

I would be happy to sign any petition blocking the construction of a statue, until there is an official public enquiry in to how much they all knew about AMW’s nefarious activities while acting as trade envoy, and who exactly paid the £12 million protecting him from having to stand trial and why?

No other public servant could get away with this degree of alleged corruption in office. Why should the Royal Family be immune to prosecution?

CathyorClaire · 03/02/2026 10:10

'Pet' ? WTF?

And Ferg wanted to marry JE?

What an absolutely revolting pair of obsequious toads they are.

Agree with your entire post but especially this paragraph.

The government (and Parliament more generally) is happy to let people think that the Erskine May rule prevents discussion of royalty, when it doesn't.

I am also convinced that one of the prime reasons for the trade envoy papers remaining sealed will be the questions directed to responsible cabinet ministers if they are released.
