Christmas Day walk in Sandringham

This is such a strange thing....so the royal family walk along a stretch of path every year and people gather to watch them. These people try to talk to the Wales children and give them presents. They are photographing the children, taking selfies, etc. I think the kids are far too young to do this. It is so odd.

How on earth do William & Catherine think this is okay?!

I saw a photo online of that registry book where George had signed his name under Diana and William. I'm assuming the man was referring to that when he told George that she would be proud of him.

I have no desire to go to Sandringham myself. To me, the children are being trained to eventually do royal duties by themselves when they become adults.

The UK public seems to be very inconsistent. You want them out and about but then complain the kids are too visible when they are only really seen at Christmas. Every expression on the kids faces are analyzed. If they didn't go to mass, W & would be criticized for not bringing them.

As far as I can see, William is the new whipping boy.

Typos.

The children of Edward and Sophie have done these walks too.. they keep their heads down and stay in the centre, stay away from fawning fans. The Wales family could take take a leaf out of their book.

I would hate for my children to be in a situation where there are loads of cameras pointing at them - the chances of the children saying or doing something they shouldn't is high because they're children. It seems such an easy thing to put a stop to - it does make me view W & C differently.

Yes, it should be enough to walk through the area and smile and wave. Can you imagine the old queen allowing hugs or selfies? It’s awful.

Ukisgaslit · 29/12/2025 12:53

No @BemusedAmerican

The children are not being ‘prepared’ they are being exploited to distract from the disturbing revelations re the Windsors and pedophiles.
William is lazy and greedy and will be worse than Charles

William deserves every bit of criticism he receives and more . He’s a grade A hypocrite

Hardly! He was a huge huge Diana fan that William recognised as he has been stalking the royals continually. And wanted to give a self portrait of himself to W as a momento for Diana. The man is a complete fruit loop, but W was happy enough to introduce his DCs to him.

simpsonthecat · 29/12/2025 13:12

We don't only see them at Christmas! I think they should be kept far far more under wraps than they are. I don't complain if I don't see them because I think it is very wrong to use them for PR like they do.

CurlewKate · 29/12/2025 13:40

“I have no desire to go to Sandringham myself. To me, the children are being trained to eventually do royal duties by themselves when they become adults.”
That is conceivable for George I suppose. But the other two may not even have any “royal duties” to be prepared for.

CurlewKate · 29/12/2025 13:47

Frankly, I think the worst bit of cynicism is the public being allowed to give the children chocolate which they most definitely not be allowed to eat. That’s a real bit of deliberate parasocial relationship building!

Clockyclockz · 29/12/2025 14:03

@Ukisgaslit I agree that the have to keep one step ahead. The whole we are a normal family just like you strategy confused me somewhat but many seem to buy it.

All the younger royals/children look really uncomfortable. You can see the likes of Mia and Lena looking really uncomfortable as they come out of the church. Louise and James have always been uncomfortable with it.

It's time people stopped and considered how the youngsters feel but they won't as they're so deluded and infatuated.

The UK public is 65 million people. The vast majority of whom are apathetic about the RF at best and do not care if they see the children. From the looks of the crowds at Sandringham a large proportion of them were American tourists so nothing to do with the UK public. The people shouting childrens names, shoving gifts in their faces and making a show of themselves are ultra Royal fans. But they are also the crowd the RF play to ( as well as the press). Most people dont understand their behaviour at all.
Also, why do 7 year olds need to he prepared for Royal duties? It is hardly an onerous job, waving and smiling and doing some inane chatting. They do not need 10 years to 'prepare'. They are absolutely being used by the RF for positive PR. As they always have been. So I suppose yes, they are being 'prepared' for their roles- especially Charlotte and Louis, of being thrown to the wolves to protect the Monarchy.

CurlewKate · 29/12/2025 14:31

The only conceivable explanation is that the children are being used to encourage us to forget about all the sleazy stuff. And for the Wales to use them like that is deeply cynical and unpleasant.

Mymanyellow · 29/12/2025 14:44

The Christmas walk to church has been going on for years. I remember William and Harry when they were children doing it. I have never been only what I have seen on tv.
But these last couple of years it seems to have taken on a completely different vibe.
I don’t remember piles of chocolates and teddies being given to the children, definitely no shouting their names and hugging them. When did that start?

simpsonthecat · 29/12/2025 14:48

It was ridiculous that George, a 13 year old boy, had an armful of ridiculous stuffed toys.
A PP said she went years ago and the vibe has changed enormously. And the royal family need to change enormously!
And put a stop to this ridiculous nonsense. Let them all walk up the centre of the path with a smile on their faces. A wave here and there. That's it.

The only conceivable explanation in YOUR mind. Do you honestly think loving parents would do that ? I very much doubt Andrew is favoured by William and Catherine. 🙄That's madness although we do know the Sussexes use their children to drive their economic ventures. Maybe you are confusing the two families .

I must have missed the Sussex family being on the walk.

Sorry-not talking about the Sussexes. Happy to carry on the conversation otherwise. Impressed that we got to 140 posts, though

And there you have hit the nail on the head- the ones who look uncomfortable are the ones who won't have this exposure in their future lives. The Wales children will have this and have had - this is why they are more relaxed with the cameras.

How odd - yet so many posters happy to talk about the Wales family on Sussex threads or even start threads about the Wales children - looking at you - which failed to launch.
How many times do I see a post about threads opening up to a wider issue.

Kingsleadhat · 29/12/2025 17:46

Who are the weirdos who come out to gawk and foist presents on already ridiculously rich and privileged people?

How do you know that the Wales children will be comfortable with it when Louise and James have had it all their lives, and aren't?
There is no guarantee that all three children will be happy with being gawked at and grabbed for selfies and hugs

You have been saying this for years criticising George and the other two as well. Constant criticism - does it make you feel good talking in such terms about children?

I'm basing it on what she SAID - some " looked uncomfortable"' but the Wales children outwardly handled it with aplomb.

There is no way James and Louise have had the same amount of exposure as the Wales have had.
