But I thought he was Sussex now? 🤔

bluegreygreen · 21/12/2025 15:20

He is officially, of course, but he obviously still uses Wales as well for some things - or at least one thing.

In the recent TV sketch he did he used both Wales and Sussex in the long list of his names.

I suppose he was 'Wales' for so much of his life that perhaps he identifies with that name most. I do wonder if it reflects the way he seems stuck in the past over other things, though.

He hasn't been 'Wales' for over 7 years now. That's surely long enough to get used to it?

And it wouldn't matter so much were it not for his wife scolding her 'friend' for not addressing her as 'Sussex'. Didn't she say she loved having a name shared by her husband and children? Yet Harry seems to think he's still 'Wales'?

NormaMajors1992coat · 21/12/2025 15:42

The problem is not just that he is choosing one of his names over another one, but that he is using a name which isn’t actually his. He might have been ok to use Wales instead of Sussex before QE2 died, but Wales belongs to William’s family now, not Charles’s. In his attempt to appropriate something that is William’s, he looks like he either thinks he is also the PoW, or that he’s one of William’s children 🤦‍♀️

Or of course it could be a mistake, bound to be, how would anyone even about the Sussex title or that QE2 died and that William is PoW, there’s been hardly any media coverage 🤔

bluegreygreen · 21/12/2025 15:46

Yes, agree @NormaMajors1992coat - not saying he should be using it, just thinking aloud as to why he might be

Exactly. "Wales" is no longer his name, and hasn't been for 7 years. Of course, as we've discussed before, none of these arisocratic names are legal surnames, certainly not outside of Britain, but if he insists on using his aristocratic name, the convention is that you use your highest title. Which in his case is 'Sussex'. As his wife was very eager to tell the world.

I very much doubt this was a 'mistake' by the poor pleb tasked with announcing him. They will have been given the names by the participants in advance. It's not like anyone in Colorado has a clue about how British royals are titled. It would be 'Prince Harry' or nothing if it were left up to them.

MrsLeonFarrell · 21/12/2025 15:52

If he stuck with Mountbatten Windsor, or Harry, he wouldn't have the problem of shifting titles.

Whilst I'm not keen on calling anyone a cunt, we are all adults here.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 21/12/2025 16:05

It's all wrapped up with the mummy issues.

He sees Meghan as the Princess of Wales.

I agree with being stuck in the past, but as for the time, agree 7 years is ample - many women change their name and don't take any time at all to get used to it, much like Meghan.

If you want to say cunt, say cunt. Not twee euphemisms.

MaturingCheeseball · 21/12/2025 16:27

I like euphemisms. Add character and humour to life. And of course some delicacy!

And putting in asterisks in place of letters isn’t a euphemism. It’s just being a little reticent about using a particular word - and what’s so bad about that?

Euphemisms do, I agree.

However there is no delicacy in the word Cunt- either stand by the language used or find another word, we have a vast array of other words to describe.

This form of sanitisation of language, of saying but not saying, is insincere.

redboxer321 · 21/12/2025 16:58

For some reason I thought MN might have a problem with the word cunt. I don't know why. A senior moment perhaps.
It's not a word that I like to use though. Perhaps self-obsessed, nasty, cruel, little man would have been better.
I go riled by the photos of him inflicting pain and suffering on defenceless animals when he has spent so much time telling us how much he suffered (I believe that) but he can't show the compassion that he calls for for himself to other beings. Or not all other beings anyway.
The royals show us time and again who and what they are and still the republic is decades maybe centuries away. I find it depressing.

That did make me laugh

@redboxer321 it is easily forgotten, considering most of the internet seems to think we are all too fragile to read swear words.

Considering what is deemed acceptable on the internet, it is strange that so many areas are precious about swearing.

But I do agree, selfish, self obsessed, cruel little man is better. Although I would add hypocritical and liar.

I agree. I absolutely hate the word and never use it. I don't mind swearing in general, just that word. But I hate tweeness. Either say it or don’t.

🤣 if I was going for euphemism I would have to use a few!!
not my favourite person, really grinds my gears , I find him difficult, really not my cup of tea! 🤣

Lifestooshort71 · 21/12/2025 17:39

I thought I read somewhere that Harry had replaced someone in the team who'd pulled out, which might explain the lack of fanfare? Could be wrong.....

I’m not remotely precious about swearing. I do, however, have a serious issue with misogyny.

Interesting about your issue with misogyny - you are the only poster I have ever remembered due to your attacking posts about Catherine.
