I think someone ought to let William know. He played more than once this summer.
But maybe it only matters if it is Harry

It matters to both, but the OP started this thread about H, not W 🤦🏼‍♀️

Trying to imagine being so sensitive that I couldn’t bear to see the words ‘wee daftie’ 😂🤪

Wait isn’t that a slur

I’ve made it clear what I think of the ‘sport’. I’m talking about the entirety of the activity and the culture around it. It surely goes without saying that includes the human participants - all of them - above all else. The horses can’t safeguard themselves.

‘Participants’ include the ridiculous fans and people who watch and clap and amplify the whole horror-show around polo and other ‘blood sports’ like fox hunting / shooting birds.

Well yes you clearly said that! , I don’t agree with it or fox hunting full stop!
and in the name of fairness searched ( for quite some time) for reports and/or pictures of ponies bleeding or injured by William and Charles.

with William, nothing it just kept bringing up Harry and saying the confusion was because the pony drizzle who died had belonged to both of them.

with Charles again nothing, but did list every injury he’s sustained from falls and playing ( I’m surprised he didn’t kill himself) .

im not a fan of horse racing either but it seems that will not go away now that it’s a favourite of the bookies.

No it’s a Scottish saying!
wee …small / little
daftie …silly ….mischievous

it’s what my mil would call my dh and siblings as a small child.

IIRC Charles was told to stop playing by the late Queen because of the number of injuries he sustained.

Daftie's a bit more than being silly 😂. It's more about not being too bright.

Still isn’t a nice word to use on a stranger.

Yes ! I saw that while I was investigating @MrsLeonFarrell, you would not believe how many injuries, broken bones, sprains he sustained falling off his ponies! And he was considered a good player! 🤷‍♀️

It’s one of those difficult to translate words! 🤣 I mean “daft” isn’t really an insult is it ? , sort of saying that your child is …🤔 not stupid but didn’t get it …or misunderstood…but definitely not nasty.

Yes but when used to describe an adult its a bit more of a criticism. Although it's not the worst Scottish term 😂

Another Scottish here.

I confirm that " wee daftie" is not a slur.

It's actually nearer a term of endearment.

" Ach ya wee daftie ye" is very often used by a parent to a child.

Said with a smile, the reply be " Whit di ye mean, Whits daft aboot it ?"

" Ach, ye ken, yons jist daft "

So, has anyone googled how they get the horses to these things ? Do they have special horses stabled at the pitch, or do they squeeze them into their private Cessna jets ?

🤣🤣 for a Scottish term it’s practically a compliment! , as an aside ( I’m not Scottish but my dh and mil is) I heard the phrase “silly old bun “ and thought it sounded funny and cute! 🤷‍♀️
imagine my surprise when my mil took great offense when I jokingly called her it! 🤣🤣

My granny was Scottish and she wasn’t shy about saying what she thought. Wee daftie was reserved for small children who made minor errors. She called my poor grandad much worse 🤣🫣

IceBrownie · 18/12/2025 15:34

"Wee dafty"....a slur?

That's used endearingly on toddlers, for the love of God!

Although to be fair, American PR people couldn't possibly be expected to know that, right?

<eye rolling>

Well considering a term of endearment is sometimes calling each other “twats” or “cunts” it’s not just the Scottish who are sweary 🤣 , just different varieties! My dh is from Glasgow area and brother is married to a woman from Aberdeen, the difference of insults is staggering 🤣

I’m assuming that the person didn’t read it properly and thought some letters were something else.

He is anything but cute

RedTagAlan · 18/12/2025 15:40

I was interested in finding the entry list for this world champ event.

As it is such an elite and exclusive sport, I wondered if there was any "working" royals there to present the cups, and the participation awards.

For me, it's not so much what photos the PR folk put out that matter, it's what they decide not to put out.

ElfieOnTheShelfie · 18/12/2025 15:47

I don’t know why we expect the horses to treat horses well. The family doesn’t even have a good track record with humans .

What have the horses done?

CurlewKate · 18/12/2025 15:52

Harry was a 6 goal player I think, so good for an amateur. Regardless, nobody should be playing at all- it’s so bad for the ponies, and he knows that.

Does playing on snow make it worse for the horses? Aren’t they more likely to fall?

They'll have special ice studs screwed in to their shoes to stop them from slipping.

What on earth are you talking about. The op started a thread specifically about Harry. I disagree with anyone participating in this game. I would have thought that much would be perfectly obvious.

What do you mean 'what on earth am I talking about'?

I would have thought it was more relevant to us in the UK that the heir to the throne plays Polo as opposed to someone who lives in the US and is not part of the Royal family any more.
