I wonder if Harpers Bazaar were strong armed into giving Meghan the cover, because both the write up and the photos are just awful. The photos of her face make it obvious that we normally only see heavily filtered versions, the clothes are terrible for her shape/height, and they pointed out that she has someone announce her entrance to an empty room, using her full title. This is a full on piss take.

I can't think of anyone else who has had so many opportunities to talk about herself and show the world who she really is. Every single time she comes across as vapid and inauthentic.
Reminds me of a Nancy Mitford who said something like 'Oh one is so lucky to be wonderful one!'

I agree. She has this huge opportunity to speak out her ‘narrative’ - but the reality is there isn’t one. As PP has said this is the usual rehash of everything she has said before - and nothing about her current projects, future ambitions or even her opinions on anything. Agree that As Ever is over - I expect she will see out the last WLM episode to clear the backlog of As Ever stock.

I struck me that this piece was heavily about name dropping and then rounding up her friends with clout and instructing them to say great things about her in order to boost her credibility - which jars with her claim not to be seeking external validation!

The video shows lots of Balenciagia on a clothes rail, she wears one in the shoot and she mentions the PFW attendance so seems she has a tie up here.

Some of the photos are stunning but the one chosen for the cover is the worst. Looks like she needs Daniel back as her make up was always stunning and glowing. Here she looks mostly tired and pasty.

The piece from Serena about MM being ‘so smart’ and a parenting expert makes me think ‘Oh no. MM is that cringe friend’ also of course MM positions herself as the best mother on the block! Looks like Gloria didn’t speak to HB but MM shoehorned her connection in by announcing they spent Thanksgiving together.

Think the tone was very subdued - was it conducted when NF deal was axed?

Also the cognitive dissonance around being ‘playful’ and PH being the most playful person - when all we have ever seen from the two of them for the last decade is narc rage and flounce and constantly bitterness, whinging, tears, retribution, bleating thru OW interview, the NF docuseries, Spare, court cases - and that’s what they choose to put out directly from the horses mouth. We also have the behind closed doors of the intense toxic work environment they created for their employees with bullying and belittling witnessed, experienced and reported in every setting to date. Seems the genie is already out of the bottle around the reality of their authenticity and MM is now trying to tell us something else when it was her own words and actions directly from OW, NF, Spare etc that painted the picture. It’s odd that someone who has put so much out directly into the public domain can claim that others/the media are spinning a different narrative.

Mylovelygreendress · 20/11/2025 08:58

Harry loves her so much and she was attracted to his childlike wonder and playfulness . Makes him sound about 3 or a puppy .
Has MM ever said how much she loves Harry ?

gishgalloping · 20/11/2025 09:13

Yes, the "childlike wonder" description of Harry is very condescending.

Such a poorly written article. I can't believe they dragged out that tired old story about the dishsoap commercial. Meghan congratulating herself on being an "old soul" is cringeworthy.

I don’t think so ! 🤔 , but maybe she only says it to him privately?

Is this actually in the article? Word for word?
because if it is , it seems a bit like “the cut” article!
flattering on the surface, pisstake underneath!

Would Megs have had sign off? This article (and cover photo) is not complimentary at all!

Mylovelygreendress · 20/11/2025 09:19

Ok I have now read the article and agree it’s a rehash of previous interviews even shoehorning in the P and G
It also has The Cut” feel to it .
Can’t believe she was announced to an empty room 🤦‍♀️

Probably! , don’t forget she signed off the cut article and didn’t realise the underlying pisstake until after it was published!
never has a person so embodied the phrase “ an empty drum makes the most noise “ as Meghan!

constant noise and “narratives “ that say nothing of worth at all.

The Hearst Corporation that owns Harpers US is worth about $25 billion so I doubt anyone ‘strong armed’ them.

Thedom · 20/11/2025 09:32

Oh my word that is atrocious ! Her lazy eye is so obvious in those photos and yet they airbrushed out her natural freckles. She looks like Mrs Trunchbull in the one with the trench coat.

I imagine she had oversight to what was printed, so she certainly allowed the ‘being announced as Duchess of Sussex’ in the article, (trolling) and I guess those were the best images from the shoot, so nothing better to work with.

Its a worthy photo spread for such a conceited person, even the airbrushing didn’t help, but it will garner more clicks than if it was a stunning spread.

As for Harry loving her more than anyone else, what a sad indictment of her life, (or another example of where her personality issues are)

jeffgoldblum · 20/11/2025 09:38

@Thedom, her saying that Harry loves her more than anyone else, is rather a sad statement really…what more than her mother? More than her children? , normally those are types of unconditional love ! 🤷‍♀️

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/11/2025 09:41

AtIusvue · 20/11/2025 08:27

Then she is given the opportunity to say something…..and it’s meaningless sound bites, word salad, carefully curated stories/anecdotes designed to make her look good…….she says nothing of value….ever

Perhaps because she has nothing of value to contribute, Atlusvue?

Absolutely everything is about the "appearance" and she can't even get that right, but then the opportunity to talk about herself is all that seems to matter, and except with those who really count that's rarely very interesting - and those who really count tend to focus on bigger matters anyway

MrsFinkelstein · 20/11/2025 10:07

AtIusvue · 20/11/2025 07:10

The cover for Harpers is awful! Her hair and make up aren’t good. Or maybe it’s the lighting. It almost doesn’t look like her.

That's an awful photo. She is a beautiful looking woman but the styling, hair, make up and lighting are doing her no favours.

For a BIG cover feature - I wouldn't be happy with the photo choice.

NormaMajors1992coat · 20/11/2025 10:16

Funny how she can’t leave the Paris Fashion Week story alone.. so originally her presence was “the culmination of many years of friendship” with the designer, with whom she had “worked closely together, collaborating on design for key moments on the world stage”. I mean the implication was that she was invited, probably paid, maybe even involved in some way as a collaborator. The designer begged to differ - they met several years ago, texted a few times since, and then “she reached out and said she’d love to come to the show”. She blagged a ticket, basically.

Obviously she didn’t look good at this point. Now - she admits that she approached him, but says she did it because she was happy to come and support him. It was a favour I suppose. Absolutely nothing to do with leveraging what little influence she has in the fashion world (not invited to any other shows, nor indeed the Balenciaga one - wonder how many she tried and failed..) in order to get in the papers and potentially shift more tat.

I don't think she's powerful enough to get sign off for HB (she wouldn't now either for The Cut, but I think she did back then).

I've just read the article and it's worse than The Cut.

BasiliskStare · 20/11/2025 10:34

I'm not quite sure whose narratives she is being subsumed by now. She's been out of the RF about 2 or 3 times longer than she was ever in it , and I can't recall the last time they ever mentioned her. Most press is a reaction to what she has put out there herself. I think this idea of her not being able to be herself is wearing a bit thin. Whether being herself is something which does not get universal praise and admiration & people will make their own judgments on what she is doing , different matter.

MrsLeonFarrell · 20/11/2025 10:37

I'm not sure describing the LA riots as cinematic was the best choice but overall it's just another empty article where Meghan is centred in a circle of adoration. I'm not sure why she thinks this is a good way to go.

The article mostly left me wondering why she was at the event they mentioned in the first paragraph. It came across as a meaningless random drop in but surely there was a purpose to it, a pity that wasn't covered.

Spectre8 · 20/11/2025 10:43

Well someone of you are now pushing a narrative of wondering how many things she steals even though the article it started from say sources allegedly said she took something so no proof she ever has but hey you repeat it here and start insinuating she is a thief, wonder what she stole from the rf..your narrative that you will continue to repeat...

So yeah when I read subsumed by other people's narrative...well here we can see what she means by that.

I'm shocked that she thinks to include this - it suggests that she has so much power and influence that by her attendance he will be elevated 😂 Another one who has been Markled 😬

She has dissed both H and her Mum in this article. As for that cover photo, all I can say is keep getting the extensions and wear some make up. Maybe though this is her " authentic" self 🤷‍♀️ It certainly shows the power of make up and filters.

This is the bit I don’t get:

After years of being subsumed by other people’s narratives, the Duchess of Sussex is ready to author her own next chapter

How long is she going to spin this idea out for - they left the RF six years ago, how come it’s taken so long? Was she not finally authoring her own chapter the last time she said she was, or the time before that? Whose narrative was subsuming her when she wrote the book / did the podcasts / the shopify / the investing / ARO / Archewell / tagged along at Invictus / bought the house, the trips to Colombia and Nigeria / Paris / the many interviews / when she bought the awards, made the NF doc and WLM? And how will the next bit - the chapter authored by her instead of someone else - be any different? Sooo many questions…

What is this new chapter I wonder?

I think it's a shame they went with that photo for the cover - several of the others are much better.

There isn't anything new in the article - as said above, it follows the usual pattern of childhood story, dish soap story, LA riots story, now being free to tell own narrative (5 years later).

There are a couple of snarks that suggest the interviewer understood what was going on - house manager announcing 'Duchess of Sussex' (is Meghan coming into the hall where the manager and interviewer are standing, or is the manager just announcing this into thin air?), Meghan not seeing her to the door.

For me, the most telling parts are the description of the LA riots as 'cinematic' (if you thought that as a child wouldn't you have developed a more empathetic appreciation of the scene over the years?) and 'she is authentically trying to be herself'.

NormaMajors1992coat · 20/11/2025 11:09

The comments about Harry’s playfulness really make him sound like a dimwit who has no serious role and no real value. Pretty patronising and disrespectful to talk about him like that in public. Aligns with the birthday photo though 😬

It really seems like she’s casting herself as the grown up A-lister and him as the idiot hanger-on to be tolerated and patted on the head every now and then if he’s lucky 🤯

I think MM believed this event would demonstrate how much of a role model she is to young girls - but the journalist has just taken the piss….

“The 11- and 12-year-olds, in their purple-and-gray uniforms, are unaware of who they are about to meet.” - I doubt any kid this age would even know who MM was or care if they did. No follow up to say the girls were impressed / engaged / inspired by her words, interactions or presence.

“The Duchess of Sussex,” someone in the scrum announces. Meghan descends…” Another piss take announcing her ridiculous title and the ‘descends’

“When a girl mentions her love of languages, Meghan lights up. “I’m learning French on Duolingo,” she says proudly, adding that she just hit a 90-day streak.” She can’t shine the light on the child has to wrestle it back on her. One-upping a school girl. Grim.
