I'm reading that this is a straight to Amazon Prime movie as opposed to a cinema release.

But that is my point? How does Meghan returning to acting qualify as trading off her former royal status?

Meghan worked on Suits for seven seasons, from 2011 to 2017; the final episode aired in April 2018. She made her own living in acting way before she met Harry. It’s not trading on her royal title to return to that. By that reckoning, anything qualifies!

She can’t help that her husband is son of the king! That would be the case if she took up cleaning or knitting! Or yodelling for a living! She is perfectly entitled to earn money in any way she likes while at the same time being married to Harry.

Well I believe that she is pushing for a Meghan, Duchess of Sussex listing as opposed to her own name. Let's be honest here if she had not married Harry, been party to all the furore and accusations of recent years no one would be seeking her out for a cameo ( if indeed that was the case) .

But that is my point? How does Meghan returning to acting qualify as trading off her former royal status?

There are 2 ways of looking at it:

Would she have had that opportunity if she wasn't married to Harry?
Difficult to say - unlikely but possible

Is she credited as 'Meghan Markle' or as 'The Duchess of Sussex'?
If the latter, she is clearly trading off the royal status, and probably breaking the terms of the Sandringham agreement.

The late Queen did suggest she should continue acting while in the Royal Family. I suspect that would have been on the same terms as Sophie Winkleman (i.e. not using the title).

I wouldn’t come off as myself either if I knew that ten You Tube videos and at least three Mumsnet threads and a million gossip articles would be written off the back of my appearance; and strangers would relish gossiping about my facial expressions, hand movements, smile, supposed conversation to others (guessed by a lip reader) or the way my trousers hang! 😀.

And a load of journalists will get a nice fat wage for criticising her appearance too! Being nasty to Meghan has become a nice little earner don’t you know!

It must take a great deal of chutzpah for her to leave the house at this point. People forget that it is an actual human facing this onslaught of global criticism.

She may not be your favourite person but surely most reasonable objective people can see that, at this point, the sheer volume of criticism she attracts is out of all proportion to what she has supposed to have done.

She's appearing as herself in a cameo. Do you think Meghan Markle, jobbing actress, whose services were no longer required on Suits after the Mike character left, would be getting a cameo as "herself" in a major film?

If she hadn't married Harry, she'd be doing infomercials now. But yes, she did marry him and is now well known. so she can drop the titles and get her roles using the fame/notoriety she's gained as "Meghan Markle". If she was any kind of principled, independent feminist, she wouldn't be trading off her husband's "racist" family in the first place.

Can you read? The premise of the exchange is that Meghan is "not herself" because of her media/SM coverage. My response was that she has repeatedly said that she doesn't follow it - ergo, it hasn't affected her personality.

At no point have I said anything about SM/media abuse being justified.

Who are you addressing that to ? The press in general ? Or are you telling us here on mn who want to discuss?

Let's just think about this.
Megan marries her love of her life. She is an independant woman, made her own name and a few million but was swept off her feet by a prince no less. Hubby is a spoiled rich kid, a prince. He has some money and entitled to a lot of stuff, has not really had a proper job apart from a short stint in the army. Despite all the money in the world, he still didnt really get good grades or make much of his own money. He was a party boy but not really much else.
Megan tries to live his way of life, she is restricted in what she can wear, say and do, hates it and moves back home to the US.
They try to build a life, make money themselves as they were cut off from the royal finances. Mostly driven by Megan, as she has experience in media and film making. Dh is useless and still doesnt do much to help.
Her DH is a useless idiot, flauntering about not really making much of anything.
Everything she does or tries to do is now scrutinised and shot down. Hubby is still doing pretty much fuck all. Because of her marriage to him, she is now has a security risk on her family and can't now go back to her normal life anyway.
She now has to pick up the pieces, and decides it's time to go back to work properly as DH is a useless spoiled prince who until he met her had never even cooked a roast chicken himself.
Megan is now the breadwinner and likely picking up the lions share in house duties, child rearing and managing the household finances. Like many of us, stuck with a pretty useless DH for the sake of the kids.

The woman was suicidal so I'd say it affected her.

There’s the Hallmark movie of Megs life that she can star in.

I am not convinced they were lies anymore.

Then maybe she should stay off SM then.
