@MikeRafone- no, they rented from a friend when they first moved to America then bought a house. There was stories about how exciting they got a mortgage! So there’s form in Royals who are no longer working royals being expected to house themselves.

I do think there’s a good question here- if Harry and Meghan are expected to house themselves and pay for their own security, why is Andrew being given another free property to live in? Albeit one the King privately owns?

I understand Andrew paid for repairs to royal Lodge out of his own pocket to the tune of a few million, so it would be right and reasonable for the King to repay Andrew for that, then Andrew be expected to buy his own house to live in as a private citizen.

He's going to be housed by KC on the Sandringham estate so that there's nothing from the taxpayers.

But where did the resources come from to acquire Sandringham in the first place? Us, the taxpayer, Sovereign grant, inherited wealth (where did that come from initially) and so on.

There is a lot of obfuscation about "not being paid for by the taxpayer" methinks!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 31/10/2025 10:46

@RhododendronFlowers- it doesn’t matter that the taxpayer isn’t funding it, he’s still being given a free property. The king owning it privately vs owning it as a monarch is fudging.

H&M had Frogmore taken off them and were not offered another UK property, one owned by the King privately or as part of the royal estates. If H&M are to be expected to put a roof over their own heads (rightly I think) then why not Andrew?

Kidsgotothatschool · 31/10/2025 10:48

Thedom · 31/10/2025 10:22

I would be surprised, they are universally disliked in the UK, Harry said he didn’t like the UK (long before meeting Meghan), they have called the UK nation racists, Harry has claimed the ‘British establishment’ want him and his family dead. Harry is ‘scared’ to bring his wife and children to the UK because their lives are in danger here. Why should they have British Royal titles when they denigrate the British people ?

Andrews loss of his title was punitive for his actions. Harry and Meghan’s removal would be because they both publicly verbalise how much they hate the UK, and would never want to live here.

There is no comparison between Harry and Andrew and why they both should lose their titles, two completely reasons.

Now with Andrew gone, Meghan and Harry are the two most disliked British Royals.

‘Universally disliked’ maybe in your circles, but not by me, or anyone I know. Most couldn’t care less, a few agree with their sentiments overall.

What an absolutely hyperbolic statement.

I wonder where he will end up living.

A house on the Sandringham estate. Fergie will be arranging her own accommodation apparently.

Firstly, it does matter what the taxpayer is funding. It costs us directly and personally. I know he's getting a free house, it annoys me too, but where to put him?
I'd prefer not to get into a discussion about H&M....it tends to get heated and derailed fast!

I'm thinking that the alternative accom in Sandringham is in exchange for A surrendering the lease on Royal Lodge voluntarily. No nasty legal action needed.

Maybe?

milveycrohn · 31/10/2025 10:52

Although I actually believe Ms Guiffree, Andrew continues to deny the sex allegations. It is possible he is right, as the only evidence is a suspect photo.
(and she subsequently admitted to a mistake when she named someone else)
However, in my view, the evidence is that he (and Sarah) continued to associate with a convicted peadophile, which has brought the Royal Family into disrepute.
I DO think it has become a bit of a witch hunt, possibly driven by anti monarchists, and why have all the american names been redacted?

Andrew deserves everything that’s coming to him, but I’m disgusted that all the other men who abused Virginia seem to have got away with it - starting with her revolting father. I’d have thought her brother and sister-in-law might have mentioned that in their interview about Andrew this morning.
If her autobiography was a deciding factor in the Andrew decision, as seems likely, the other men she accused in the book should also be held to account.

ShenandoahRiver · 31/10/2025 10:55

@milveycrohn
Not a witch hunt by anti monarchists. Simply people realising what the RF have been up to for decades. Now the genie is out of the bottle. And not before time too.

I agree, I hope that other men get called to account as well.

Sandringham had been in the family for years. It was sold I think to George VI by his brother after the abdication. So George V prob had it built but think there was some finance issues as Edward was moving abroad and wanted money. Large sums weren't allowed out of the country but somehow it was in his case!!
The RF don't want the money issues raised. It's opaque for a reason

I’ve long believed that daily mail mirror etc., could, within months, turn around the negative opinions of many of the people that currently don’t like Meghan and Harry. The media had quite a bit to do with a lot of the unpopularity of Harry and Meghan in the first place, especially Meghan. & Absolutely encouraged that negativity and criticism. A few journalists have said this themselves over the years.

Who knows if Charles wants Harry and Meghan back? It’s doubtful they’d want to come back imo. Not to live, anyway.

Alan Dershowitz thought that 15 was an appropriate ‘compromise’ for age of consent.

Age of consent

Why does that not surprise me !!🤢

VG should never have given him an out to claim innocence and mistaken identity !

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/10/2025 11:06

I sincerely hope no human being (servant) ever calls him "your royal highness" or "sir" or "Prince Andrew" or bows to him EVER AGAIN

I suspect you'll be disappointed on that one, @AntiqueBooks

He's hardly going to be scrubbing his own floors so will need some kind of staff - though never ask me why anyone would take the job - and I've no doubt he'll insist on the "proper" manners of address and greeting

In 1862, Sandringham and just under 8,000 acres (3,200 ha) of land were purchased for £220,000 for Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, as a country home for him and his future wife, Princess Alexandra of Denmark.

Following his death in 1910, the estate passed to Edward's son and heir, George V, and on his death passed to his son Edward VIII. At his abdication, as the private property of the monarch, it was purchased by Edward's brother, George VI.

On George VI's death it passed to Elizabeth II and then to Charles III.

Dershowitz sued Virginia Giuffre and they settled with no money changing hands.

Just read that. Wiki has a bit more on it. George VI paid 300k for it as his brother needed the money. The Queen's father liked it there hence the family attachment. Another house for William on his ascendancy (along with the others eg Balmoral which was sold along with Sandringham.

Many see working for the royal family as a privilege, some get accommodation, they also have a bloody good pension (much better than my 5% or even my old 12%).

Greenscheesecake · 31/10/2025 11:17

Won’t be living in a flat over a chippy, though, will he?

So he will be Andrew Windsor? Will he get a council property!

Nope! Via king Charles’ purse the taxpayer will still be paying his bloody rent.

By God there is almost a revolution on MN. Not that long ago there was talk of the RF generating billions of tourist £ and what wonderful value/examples they were. Now the covers have slipped off I can hear the peasants rattling their pitchforks (about time too). Kate will be all over the magazine covers soon to take our mind off this current news.

Are there any hints who was the PRIME MINISTER or of which country he was that Giuffre said in book nearly killed her on the island but she did not name??
