Why is there more online vitriol towards Megan Markle than Andrew?

I find it ridiculous how there is consistent hate towards Megan markle when she does pretty low key things like launching jam that no one is being forced to buy. People were delighted that she is no longer using HRH titles and even said she shouldn’t call herself the Duchess of Sussex (even though that is distinct from royal titles).

On the flip side - NO ONE has called for an actual investigation into Prince Andrew on the days that he claimed to be at Pizza Express in Woking, when his movements are logged by the royal gamily and his security detail so they eill
know exactly where he was!

He slept with an underage victim of sex trafficking who
conveniently died by suicide shortly before her memoir naming and shaming many individuals came out.

Limited criticism of the late Queen who used £12million
pg her personal money to pay off an underage sec trafficking victim & shielded him from any investigation.

Disgusted by it all and was amused to see the vitriol on an article about Megan breathing, whereas limited calls for Andrew to be investigated by any U.S or UK authorities!

WHY?

A married in wife has no business trying to “change things”. The monarchy is a long established and powerful institution built on hierarchy. That is literally the point of it. The Crown at the top, everyone else in their designated place below. The chain of command is everything, everyone in the RF knows and understands that. Harry did, he referred to the Queen as his Commander-in-Chief. You never hear of William defying or undermining the King, despite their obvious differences. Even Andrew, stripped of everything he holds dear, has fallen into line.

If you don’t want to be in that system (I wouldn’t) don’t take the job, or the perks and the privileges.

Exactly.

Say that this is mad as a box of frogs, count me out. Get married and live a private life.

But H&M wanted to be 'working royals', a system that has a hierarchy. The huge wedding, the titles (let's face it, titles are impossible without a hierarchy).

Make up your mind, if you reject the hierarchy then reject it (perfectly reasonable). Or embrace it and accept your place in it (which isn't about anything except birth order), because your place brings a lot of perks.

But you don't get the perks without the drawbacks.

Doubly the case if you (by your own declaration) didn't grow up in a monarchic system, don't know anything about the RF and didn't understand its cultures and customs. It's pretty arrogant to assume you can or should change a system of which you haven't even a fundamental understanding.

Of course had Meghan accepted the help of Sophie , Susan Hussey or the late Queen’s senior aide ( sorry can’t remember his name) or read the dossier she was given or - you know- watched and learned then things might have been different. Instead she wanted to “hit the ground running “ and listened to no one . First event with the late Queen , advised to wear a hat . No . Advised to use British designers . No. Advised not to walk in front of The Queen . No.
But happy to accept a title , staff , security , luxury travel , house, clothes budget .
Didn’t like the criticisms so off they went but grimly hangs on to her title.
Unbelievable.

The answer to this is so obvious that I'm surprised you ask the question.

It is about current visibility and provocation to comment.

How much online vitriol do you see about Jimmy Savile these days?

Andrew did one terrible News Night interview and then has basically been out of the public eye and kept a low profile. Epstein email releases and things like Mandelson bring it back to public attention from time to time or when he is stripped of her title and then people may comment. Think about where you see the vitriol you are talking about - social media platforms like X, Instagram, forums like MN or Reddit, comments on media sites. All of those tend to be current and provoked by something someone has seen.

Meghan Markle on the other hand is desperate to stay in the public eye and cash in on the fame she has before her royal relevance wains - the Leave-The-Royal- Family- Being- More- Financial- Lucrative plan not quite having worked out as she planned. So she is constantly trying to get attention by releasing ill advised social media videos (the hospital twerking; the kid in pyjamas a a pumpkin farm); flogging runny spread that can't be called jam because it doesn't have enough suger/fruit content; accepting awards that aren't deserved and doing stupid interviews pretending to be a business founder when she is just the figure head of a white label goods shop.

She is constantly doing stuff to be in the public eye and unfortunately they are not the sort of things that are neutral or not interesting. I mean if she was doing the equivalent of royal visits a lot of that is really boring. How much media do you see about Sophie Wessex visiting a volunteer centre for example?

That's all it is. People comment on what is in front of them. What is in front of them depends on how much publicity it gets. Some of that is due to the professional media reporting but a lot of it is due to self- promotion and thirsty agitating for publicity.

ozarina · 01/12/2025 16:39

Well yes , excellent explanation @HaveACheekyChristmasbut unfortunately despite this being explained many times by many posters now including yourself, it’s just not the answer they want 🤷‍♀️

BigWillyLittleTodger · 01/12/2025 17:53

I think we need to copy and paste @HaveACheekyChristmas post every time we get a what about Andrew post and the why do you care nonsense, though no doubt just like when (I think it’s @Mylovelygreendress ) has to remind the fans at frequent intervals of their leaving statement the fans will choose to ignore it. People comment on what is in front of them sums it up but it seems a particularly hard concept to grasp.
