Why is there more online vitriol towards Megan Markle than Andrew?

ladykale · 22/10/2025 10:21

I find it ridiculous how there is consistent hate towards Megan markle when she does pretty low key things like launching jam that no one is being forced to buy. People were delighted that she is no longer using HRH titles and even said she shouldn’t call herself the Duchess of Sussex (even though that is distinct from royal titles).

On the flip side - NO ONE has called for an actual investigation into Prince Andrew on the days that he claimed to be at Pizza Express in Woking, when his movements are logged by the royal gamily and his security detail so they eill
know exactly where he was!

He slept with an underage victim of sex trafficking who
conveniently died by suicide shortly before her memoir naming and shaming many individuals came out.

Limited criticism of the late Queen who used £12million
pg her personal money to pay off an underage sec trafficking victim & shielded him from any investigation.

Disgusted by it all and was amused to see the vitriol on an article about Megan breathing, whereas limited calls for Andrew to be investigated by any U.S or UK authorities!

WHY?

Because she’s a convenient scape goat and the drones of so called “royalists” who believe everything the firm spews out gives them exactly what they want, her being the devil incarnate while the cheating, child abusing and arrogant privileged “family” get to do what the fuck they want as per usual while us little people carry on doing what were suppose to do, belive their gods gift 🙄

Andrew hasn't paid for/won any awards recently. He hasn't started any podcasts. He's not made any statements or jam. He's shut his mouth and doesn't do anything that make people talk about him.

rumred · 22/10/2025 18:59

It's racism plus sexism. The media is owned by rich white men. Thus, rich white man, and a prince to boot, gets let off the hook for decades.

utamea · 22/10/2025 19:05

I thought Andrew was lower than Meghan in popularity.

its not debatable whether Andrew is a nob. He just is. It is debatable whether Meghan is a nob. So it gets debated.

I read the paper copy of the Daily Mail this weekend (OK I looked at it on Pressreader due to a bizarre story about Nadine Dorries)

Front page - Andrew. The announcement had been the day before so obviously it would be front page news.

Pages 3-4 - Double spread on Andrew - again, expected.

And then, multiple stories about the sheer awfulness of Meghan, including her own double page spread. Just, why?

The whole paper was about 50% Meghan, 30% Andrew, 20% news. And I may be overestimating the news element, esp as there were 2 pages about Nadine Dorries' breast implants.

The Meghan hate bandwagon is just continuous, even when she is doing nothing.

That's just awful. Especially since Andrew made his 'honourable' announcement Friday evening.
The Meghan bashing is a multi million pound industry, I wonder when it will ever stop.

Women are always held to a higher standard than men and being a woc brings additional negativity

It was very obvious that the columnists had got their 'Meghan is a bitch' articles all ready to go for Saturday. Lets be honest, they could probably write them in their sleep now.

And then Andrew made his announcement so they cleared a couple of pages for it. But hey, lets leave the Meghan stuff in! Everyone loves their daily hate after all.

Whilst this is true, I don’t believe that it’s the reason for the vitriol towards Meghan. Their wedding was celebrated all across the country. Truly celebrated - the problems came afterwards - starting with her dad/sister, perpetuated by Oprah interview etc.

SunshinePlease24 · 22/10/2025 19:40

Lots of people find her annoying which is fair enough.

Other people are just racist.

Lots of people dislike her because she's from the wrong background to be a Royal in their opinion, and wasn't a young virgin bride like Catherine and Diana. A lot of people (including some other women) don't like independent women with opinions.

Her refusal to play along with like of Piers Morgan and his like or bow down to the Royals (who let's face it are hugely dysfunctional) sealed her fate and made the Daily Mail readers seethe with rage.

People are really odd.

Very many people live a celebrity lifestyle, I don't see hundreds of posts about them.

There are very few Royals anywhere in the world who want to live a celebrity lifestyle though or want to work as influencers. I think that’s the whole fascination, criticism and ridicule of Meghan, then add in the disclosure of her bullying and lying and thats a whole other layer.

It is fascinating and worth commentary, good and bad, to watch her chasing column inches and media exposure, she is so obviously addicted to fame and publicly and seems to be overtly out there looking for some sort of significance. I mean, she has multiple PR companies working to get her presence out there, it’s nothing genuine or authentic for most people.

And the press narrative changing.

Londonrach1 · 22/10/2025 21:12

Honestly never seen her mentioned in papers at the moment but everywhere is about him .....maybe your search engine finding the odd one piece out there. Clear your cookies and you find it literally is about Andrew no one else at the moment

DevaneyRob43 · 22/10/2025 21:20

It's obvious really 🤨

Sgustin · 22/10/2025 21:24

I am not a meghan basher or royal family fan - I am Irish 😄.

But, I imagine it is because she talks to the media a lot more and people don't especially like her. The only time Andrew spoke to the media, he did get absolutely dragged by the press (rightly so)

If she wasn't in the public eye, nobody would talk about her. But that is her job and income, so not really avoidable

Andregroup · 22/10/2025 21:25

They're not comparable. Andrew is a disgusting piece of filth, everyone agrees, but I don't think that can be said about Meghan. To keep comparing is ridiculous.

Timeforabitofpeace · 22/10/2025 21:26

Sexism and racism, I expect.

therewasafishinthepercolator · 22/10/2025 21:29

I remember reading somewhere that "Megan is the worst thing that has happened to the Royal family for 80 years."

My eyebrows shot up to my hairline and haven't yet come down. I mean, really. Jaysus.

NautilusLionfish · 22/10/2025 21:29

I think partly because there is almost no disagreement on Andrew. He is an arsewipe and everyone well almost everyone agrees so no drama.
Meghan I think the issue is multifaceted.
Some for her others against her and those against her forment vitriol to validate their feelings. And then the trifecta or is it quintfecta
Colour, sex (and a strong woman who isn't happy to be sat on), premarital status (I.e. by royal standards, a commoner). So she gets it's from all these people (not always the same though lots of crossovers). And then there are times that she or Harry do baffling things. Nothing major or really noteworthy on its own but then those against her take it and give it life.
That's my opinion

This. ^ Even so @ladykale Meghan is not loathed more than Andrew, most people either don't care about her/don't even think about her, or they just find her annoying and irksome. Most people are just pretty much disgusted by Andrew and find him repugnant. People don't feel like this about Meghan.

All you have done now is started another thread where people can continue to bash Meghan.

This. I don't care about Meghan, I think Harry is a bit of a dick.

Andrew is a total cunt.

Spectre8 · 22/10/2025 21:46

This. There would be no point in starting endless threads about him, you could start one and everyone who could be bothered to respond would agree he's an arsehole, and then there's not really anything else to say. He's not done anything to warrant new comment and everyone already knows he's an arsehole, so what would be the point in clicking on a thread just to say yup, he's still an arsehole. Same as people don't just start random posts every day about how horrid Hitler was - we know, and just because we criticise other people doesn't mean we must like Hitler as we're complaining about them and not him! All the threads about Meghan are because she keeps doing new and weird things people can attack, but I don't think it means people think she's worse than Andrew (or Hitler!) just because they choose to criticise her rather than them, any more than I imagine you must think Andrew is worse than Hitler as you've not even mentioned how awful Adolf is...!

Portakalkedi · 22/10/2025 23:02

OP, why on earth do people like you keep using the word 'hate' to describe the public's reaction to ridiculous self-obsessed characters such as MM (or Prince Andrew)? Nobody 'hates' these idiots, it may be that we simply don't like liars, cheats, narcissist opportunists who are desperate to keep shoving themselves into the public view. If they insist on putting themselves out there and making fools of themselves then of course the public will react, mostly by ridiculing them, that's all. I would say MM beats PA by a mile in the shoving herself in our faces department.
Maybe Hitler - he might warrant the word 'hate'.

She isnt shoving herself in your face. She posts to her instagram which you can easily avoid of the media then pick that and run a story thats on it, again you can avoid reading them or just stop reading the Daily Mail since they love generate endless articles on her. Noone is forcing you.

Is this not exactly the issue? Meghan has done nothing wrong yet she will get more abuse than Andre.

That’s a matter of opinion!
