Andrew, Sarah & a Royal Lodge question

MoondustandFairies · 20/10/2025 00:42

Following some of the news stories about Andrew relinquishing Titles & a more local news story saying that he & his ex wife will continue to live in the Royal Lodge makes me wonder how that can be funded. Can they be made to leave if they can't pay?

It has 7 - or 12? - bedrooms so I expect it requires a bit of mopping & dusting each week - so do A & S also employ staff to maintain the property.

Not sure how old they both are either, maybe close to retirement?? but how do they fund a lifestyle without being propped up by the RF. Which prob won't please William too.
Just my tuppence worth question wondering how non working ex Royals with no marketable skills will pay staff wages & buy groceries.

I am listening to Entitled on audiobook.
So the Budgie the helicopter books that SF wrote were supposed to have been published for all money to go to charity. Only 10% actually went to charity, she pocketed the rest. She is appalling.

I remember that , there was a bit of a hoha about it. She was on tv blustering her way through a prepared statement about "expenses" and "fees" or something.

MaturingCheeseball · 22/10/2025 16:25

It looks quite an ugly building, a bit like a nursing home… or The Priory!

Why would any Arab/Chinese people be interested in Andrew now? Surely the shop is firmly shut and access opportunities are zero. I don’t disagree that he and SF might have to head to foreign parts. South America? An African country? Somewhere where they can live it up on the cheap White Mischief-style.

I don't think anyone has said Royal Lodge is an ordinary house. Posters have pointed out that it doesn't have 30 bedrooms, as others have claimed.

Yes it's enormous, and far larger than any couple needs.

Bit like Meghan’s and Harry’s with its 16 bathrooms!

upinaballoon · 22/10/2025 17:22

I find it difficult to know what is true. That is probably an understatement.
One person says there are 30 bedrooms and another says there are 7.
Wiki about Virginia says that Prince Andrew gave her £12 million but it says that The Sun said it was £3 million.

Only avoidance of IHT is from dead monarch to heir

Ahh ok thank you for that

Navigatinglife100 · 22/10/2025 17:51

No way are William and Kate living without staff!!! Its just some sort of terminology to look good. None of us would be able to keep their property without help - its just ridiculous - they are being disingenuous by wording it in such a way it appears they are.

The Times have got a copy
of the lease from the Crown estate and it’s been confirmed he hasn’t paid any rent in two decades.
It looks like what he paid for refurbishment is in lieu of the notional rent.
Prince Andrew has not paid rent on Royal Lodge for two decades

Thats disgusting especially when many people pn here have been making awful comments about H&M using taxpayers money for reno when infact they paid rent and paid the reno costs...meanwhile here we have Andrew not paying rent just reno costs....yet who has been vilified more...i wonder where those posters are now having to eat humble pie I bet.

Exactly they dont want live in staff cos they want to protect their privacy ao noone hears any arguments etc that could be leaked out.

They have plenty of staff

Far more than that. His middle Eastern contacts are deeply entrenched. He has been taking pay offs and backhanders for decades

He’s taken huge bribes gifts from the Kazhakstan government over the years.

Have you proof of that?

jumpingthehighjump · 22/10/2025 18:01

Maybe read the Wiki page of Duke of York. It is all detailed there with footnotes showing references.
There is a section there about Corruption and Kazakhstan

We could equally well ask why they seem to be interested in his daughters, @MaturingCheeseball, and while it's true that "access" would have dried up among normal people we're not talking about normal people

I know, what utter crap. Do people (the plebs) honestly believe that our Billy and Katy are "just like us". Of course they've got bloody staff, a whole team of them. Including gardeners, a nanny, cooks, housekeepers and administrators. I despair at the naivity.

AndSoFinally · 22/10/2025 18:42

The whole thing just makes me long for a return to the days where a king could drown his brother in a barrel of malmsey wine and no one would bat an eyelid

Yes, I think a lot do.

The PR machine do a huge amount to promote the "just like us" narrative, even though if you thought about it you must realise that practically it can't be true.

The forever home nonsense is another example.

You weren't there so you don't know whether anyone batted an eyelid or not but you've made me roar with laughter. (Digression - in the olden days the BBC made a series about Shakespeare's kings and Mum and I watched. A young actor called Connery was playing Harry(?) Percy Hotspur).

I think KC3 would understand your allusion.

MaturingCheeseball · 22/10/2025 19:33

Good way to go - in a malmsey butt….

She was relying on an enormous overdraft which HMQ had to pay off.

She wasn't relying on it. It was constantly extended despite 'scoldings' from her bankers.

E2 paid it off (allegedly c. £4m) but under the monarch to monarch consort tax exemptions still pocketed a saving of an estimated £24m in IHT.

Ker-ching.

CathyorClaire · 22/10/2025 21:18

That is one Hell of a deal for Andrew.

They all get one hell of a deal.

Check out the fine print on Ed's 120 room pile and Harold's Frogmore 'repayment'.

CathyorClaire · 22/10/2025 21:25

I think the idea that occupants of the same car necessarily condone each others’ behaviour is quite an interesting one.

I think the occupants of an endlessly on tap supply of luxury motors tolerating a toxic associate riding shotgun is quite interesting too.

William has no history of refusing to attend things Andrew is at or refusing to talk to him at family events.
If William does deal with Andrew, it will be because he has to, no evidence at all that he’s been itching to cut him out.

How do you know that William has no history of refusing to attend things Andrew is at or refusing to talk to him at family events? That’s quite a claim, I’m not sure how you could possibly know that. It’s not like Andrew is at every event that William attends, after all. He doesn’t get invited to the Carols for example - how does that square with your premise that the RF (including William) are hoping Andrew can be rehabilitated?

Regarding there being no evidence that William wants to get rid of him, it’s widely reported that William was the driving force behind the recent decision about the titles. So there’s that.

Interesting what people find interesting - I think the idea that occupants of the same car necessarily condone each others’ behaviour is quite an interesting one.

Lol the PR machine at work here, bedore that the media were questioning their work ethic etc and here is an opportunity to gain favour with the public...its pure PR.

How about there’s footage taken from a distance of William and Andrew chatting and both smiling /looking happy, at events after Andrew paid millions to a woman he didn’t know?

Or William happily sharing a car with Andrew when there were other cars available and no one needed to share? (Which at the time was happily reported as perhaps Andrew being brought back in from the cold, and no one from William’s PR felt the need to correct that.)

William might hate his uncle. There’s no evidence though.

Hence why the PR machine at work. Ban him from xmas now...why not when it came out for the first time...only because this time there is too much negative press about it now that they can no longer be seen to be doing nothing.

Just lile it took media and public outrage for him to reduce how much he charhes the NHS to rent space from him. He could of done this a long before but he didnt.

Looks like if the public are outraged and he is out of favour he has no choice but to react and do something.
