Andrew, Sarah & a Royal Lodge question

MoondustandFairies · 20/10/2025 00:42

Following some of the news stories about Andrew relinquishing Titles & a more local news story saying that he & his ex wife will continue to live in the Royal Lodge makes me wonder how that can be funded. Can they be made to leave if they can't pay?

It has 7 - or 12? - bedrooms so I expect it requires a bit of mopping & dusting each week - so do A & S also employ staff to maintain the property.

Not sure how old they both are either, maybe close to retirement?? but how do they fund a lifestyle without being propped up by the RF. Which prob won't please William too.
Just my tuppence worth question wondering how non working ex Royals with no marketable skills will pay staff wages & buy groceries.

Only the Mirror and the DM-sister tabloids, afaik.

It's probably easier to keep him where he can be kept an eye on. Plus, he does things like go riding in the Park.

i can't see why SF can't share with him in the new home.
Have they tried looking at Rightmove - there must be some 2 or 3 bed properties for sale or rent within 3 miles of the castle. i found an end-of-terrace in Chalvey for £350K. (Plenty of takeaway places round the corner so no need for staff, and the DC when they visit could stay 2 miles down the road with Uncle Chas Smile)

diddl · 27/10/2025 10:27

Found similar article in the Times.

Not that he has been offered but that he has asked for.

Even so, I don't see what it would achieve-moving from one property on the Windsor estate to another.

Or two!

SloughResident · 27/10/2025 10:30

The media is focussing on the RL being a grand mansion. Something that looked more cottagey might remove that focus.

From a policing point of view I'm sure it's easier to have him on the Windsor estate.

I suppose so.

For me he/they would still be in great accommodation in a fabulous location at minimal cost!

chunkybear · 27/10/2025 10:48

Or he could be more suited to the Tower of London … plenty of security (to keep him in!) and lots of young birds there for him to chose from 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛

SloughResident · 27/10/2025 10:53

What's wrong with Chalvey?
He'd need to wear joggers with sports socks and slides, and Sarah's hair would need to be covered as the titian tresses would stand out.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/10/2025 11:02

I don't know why he is being offered other properties, particularly in Windsor
What does that achieve?

Silence perhaps, @diddl?

SloughResident · 27/10/2025 11:05

If he was in KP he'd be too visible. Comings and goings in WGP less so.

cocoonscriticupgrading · 27/10/2025 11:26

My solution to the royal housing crisis would be to take a teeny tiny footprint of the wider Windsor estate and built a pair of semi-detached houses.

They could be built using the modern template ordinary folk have to endure: small but tall (building up, not out). A couple of three storey two-bedroomed properties with allocated parking for one car each should do it. They wouldn't need a garden, 'cos the park is on the doorstep.

It would please the government as it would add to their remit of building more houses, and it could make Charlie feel altruistic - feeling he's personally providing some social housing for a couple of folk in need. It would please Andy and Sarah 'cos they clearly still want to be together without being together. The security issue is solved 'cos they are still on the royal estate. Grandparent duties and family get togethers could be done at their daughters' gaffs where there is more room.

SloughResident · 27/10/2025 11:41

Not tall and small, as the non-couple are near retirement age. Unless it was elderly-friendly.
A static caravan or two perhaps.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/10/2025 12:10

There are plenty of staff cottages on the Windsor estate. They can each have their own gaff there, thus keeping security costs low, without any need to build anything new.

Pleasing as it is to imagine Andrew downgraded to living like an ordinary person it would probably end up costing the taxpayer more in police and fire brigade call outs not to mention broken window replacements if he was out in the normal world. He’s inevitably going to be a target.

Nuisance to neighbours as well if lots of protestors/vigilantes. I think the police would be tearing their hair out

Ooooh, I dunno, a couple of statics might look a bit riff-raffy - I know they allow tourers at Sandringham, but ... I get your point though. The solution could be stair lifts, or I've seen actual domestic lifts advertised on the telly - added value would be lots of fun for when the grand children visit.

Oh God yes, can you imagine finding out he was moving in next door? 😬

CoucouCat · 27/10/2025 13:20

Why do they have to be housed at all? I find it astonishing that he can be rewarded with a gorgeous retirement property. Or two! He can’t cope with the Lodge - it’s doing him a favour to let him out of the lease - contra to the lease requirements, he’s let it return to a state it badly needs renovation. He’s a slimy shirker.

I am aghast at the incredible ignorance that the Royal Family don’t realise people want to see him and SF feel the consequences of their poor behaviour.

SF has 4.5m from sale of her home - why can’t she use that to pay for a small property and her guards? If the old lady next door to me has to sell her home to pay for her care home fees, why does SF - who is now just a citizen who has done NOTHING to deserve special treatment- be given millions? It beggars belief.

Let his Arabian prince rescue him and let him broil in obscurity and shame 50+ degree heat for the rest of his natural life, good practice for the hereafter where I expect he’ll be absolutely roasting!

He won’t stay in the Uk. He’ll be gone overseas. And you know what - more jobs for firemen and police, fine. Better than lining the pockets of Andrew and his dodgy kids with any more privilege and wealth.

CoucouCat · 27/10/2025 13:23

@cocoonscriticupgrading lol at “the royal housing crisis”. My heart bleeds!

I don't know anything about the fire service but I do know there is plenty of work for the police just not enough officers to do it. I don't think they need more work created.

Yes I wonder how many on here would volunteer to be his neighbour. I'm guessing it's going to be a very low number.

canklesmctacotits · 27/10/2025 16:45

Didn't Sarah get a payout on divorce? That should be the beginning and end of any financial aid for her. Why should she get anything more? She can go earn a living like every other single mum.

Being mum to Beatrice and Eugenie doesn't qualify her for anything more than she's already received: she only has to ask Andrew about the value of being a "blood princess". Sarah has zero entitlement to anything more than she's already received, grifted and stolen. I'd be fine seeing her living in a terraced house somewhere. Yes, it's schadenfreude. I'm happy to feel it on behalf of all the people she and Andrew have wronged.

SloughResident · 27/10/2025 17:02

@canklesmctacotits ,she did, but it wasn't that much. 6-figure sum not millions.

It would be a huge amount for the average person even now, but she would have gone through it in no time.

Absolutely, she can leach off her own family or her kids and their in laws … not the british public purse xx

100%! I don’t know why they even let her back in the ‘fold’ again. She never should have been seen with the RF in public again other than maybe their daughter’s weddings! And A wasn’t even seen at Beatrice’s!

Prince Philip must be turning in his grave!

I am not convinced SF has anything much on the RF. What would she know about finances and there’s no indication of murky sec lives apart from A!?
