Andrew, Sarah & a Royal Lodge question

MoondustandFairies · 20/10/2025 00:42

Following some of the news stories about Andrew relinquishing Titles & a more local news story saying that he & his ex wife will continue to live in the Royal Lodge makes me wonder how that can be funded. Can they be made to leave if they can't pay?

It has 7 - or 12? - bedrooms so I expect it requires a bit of mopping & dusting each week - so do A & S also employ staff to maintain the property.

Not sure how old they both are either, maybe close to retirement?? but how do they fund a lifestyle without being propped up by the RF. Which prob won't please William too.
Just my tuppence worth question wondering how non working ex Royals with no marketable skills will pay staff wages & buy groceries.

… maybe he’s got the keys to his buddy Jeffrey Epstein’s island and he can FO there

@chunkybear
Why should any other country have to take him in? He should stay right here in England.

Many other countries have large areas of wilderness such as deserts where nobody would have to interact with him….

jumpingthehighjump · 24/10/2025 17:15

Why can't he go to the fully staffed fully furnished Palace in the Middle East that has been given to him?

About time. Maybe this is why the government are being so flabby, they hope this will satisfy those who want them to act.

You make an interesting point, Lunde.

In the fifties the new queen and her husband went off on a long tour and the children stayed home with Granny and Aunt Margot and nannies, which would have been thought the most sensible thing at the time.

By Diana's day, she took Wills with them when she and Charles went to Australia. It was a much shorter trip and maybe she had had to dig her heels in a bit, but baby went too, and he crawled to the edge of the blanket on the ground and his Daddy called him 'Wills'.

By William's day, he has a wife who probably didn't have a nanny and I can see that they seem to be more hands-on if they can be, and have come-in staff rather than live-in staff. They don't need such a large house if there are fewer live-in staff and maybe the live-out staff like going home to their own places.

You are the first person that I've read, pointing out about the blab-mouths who make a living from telling-a-bit, not really all. Thank you for that thought. I can see that it's a good reason for William not to want too many members of staff there all the time.

I must make time to look up what 'Crawfie' did long ago. Miss Crawford, nanny or teacher to the late Queen?

I reread " The Little Princesses" when the Vintage Read was covering it as a book talk. Crawford lived in Royal Lodge and had scheduled days off. The children also had a live-in nanny.

Both the Queen Mother and George VI spent the evenings with the children. George VI had such a a horrible childhood that he and the QM went out of their way to make sure their daughters had happy ones.

True but he’ll likely end up in some sleazy place with a bunch of sleazy rich people they can both leach off of

Thanks for the link.

Interesting and obviously long overdue but I do wonder who's going to pick up both the compensation tab and that for the repairs apparently needed and ongoing maintenance.

I don't think I need three guesses...

Surely compensation will come from the Crown Estate?

I fully expect it to be posited that way but ultimately that will diminish CE profits which as we've seen (Covid) has no impact on royal income all the time the SG funding level is ring fenced.

I do think that something needs to be done about the way the Sovereign Grant is calculated.

Had this been posted?Prince Andrew paid by businessman tied to pension rip-off company https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy5qrp2wne4o

Mummy was revealed (Paradise Papers) to hold investments in the exploitative Brighthouse (RIP).

It seems the favourite apple didn't fall far from the tree

I wonder where he will move to? I think Switzerland, plenty of dodgy Eastern European and ME figures living there, or will the Grimaldi’s give them a spot in their little corner of tax free haven. Will it be both of them together ?

I think the pressure should be on now to unseal the files of his time as a Trade Envoy, better to do it all now, rather than another scandal down the road from a ‘leak’, because a leak will happen.

AtIusvue · 24/10/2025 16:09

Thanks @Atlusvue- I saw a news link here too that said (alluded to ?) Andrew is negotiating a move to Frogmore Cottage in the near future. This used to be where Harry & Meghan lived for a time after their wedding, then maybe Eugenie - or Beatrice (not sure which sister used it as their UK vase).
But wait ... apparently Sarah would like to move to Adelaide Cottage - which I think is an absolute cheek if this is true. How does an ex wife in these circumstances have any negotiating strength? The mind boggles.

Can't Sarah live with one of her daughters as they both have 'subsidised' houses.

I hope that article is wrong - surely the RF know it would be insane to re-house them in William and Harry's old houses.

ThePoshUns · 27/10/2025 07:07

Yes unless there is something written in her divorce agreement, she shouldn’t be entitled to a thing

I can’t understand why or how she’s even allowed to live in the royal lodge even, surely that takes up tax payers money to pay for extra work created by her just being there, unless she pays rent and bills?! Does she pay her share towards the staff? Doubtful !

Moving to Frogmore cottage would make the most sense as its been newly renovated and isn't used. Adelaide would be a bit small if they wanted the girls to stay. Sarah doesn't get a say imo, she goes where Andrew is or she sorts herself out.

It seems fair enough to me that Andrew can have whatever guests he wants (short of criminals and sex offenders).

Maybe the RF regard it as a good thing for him and Fergie to be together because at least it means they’re both less likely to bring the family into further disrepute by shacking up with someone else even more inappropriate. It looks better when they appear together as parents at things involving their daughters than it would if they trailed along a succession of new partners.

I've read that it will be KC but, like most other 'facts' on here, nobody knows....who can believe the papers?

The tenant (Andrew) pays the costs, and can invite whoever he chooses to stay with him.

How he pays for it, of course, is a different question.

@diddl, they don't call it the Daily Liar for nothing.

diddl · 27/10/2025 10:06

Yes of course.

Although I do find it plausible that he would make demands!

Is there another source for him moving out other than the DM?
