Yet more damaging revelations for the Yorks. How did the Daily Mail manage to get hold of the email I wonder?

Andrew Lownie has said that the paperback version of his book will be updated with further information from people who were afraid to come forward for the first edition. No legal action or litigation seems to have been instigated so presumably the Yorks and wider RF accept the book as factual and accurate.

I guessed it was him and of course it was.

The NSPCC speaks out. An article from Telegraph behind a paywall so the link is for access

Just when you think he couldn't get any lower 😡

@BadDinner Andrew Lownie is a trained historian and a former barrister, I believe. He’s good at analysing source material and evidence, although some may feel his enthusiasm in putting across his findings suggests that he is, shock horror, hoping for brisk book sales.

Given his losses incurred by fighting for archive access to certain Mountbatten documents, I don’t blame him for having a business plan. He put his house on the line. At least his business is that of a decent writer.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/09/2025 10:18

This seems odd - I get that the NSPCC want to get their side across over what did happen, but surely Andrew stopped being their patron years ago?

Looking on the bright side though, even if it wasn't for his "withdrawal from public life" (yeah, right Hmm) I'd like to think that absolutely no charity would touch him now

The NSPCC has form for backing the wrong horses.

It’s done a couple of web chats on MN in the past that were somewhat troubling, not least its seeming inability to address the charity’s chosen associations.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/09/2025 10:55

I wasn't aware of the webchats, @TheAutumnalCrow, but you're not wrong about some of the "wrong horses" they've backed Hmm

If I’ve got time later I’ll see if I can find them! They are a fair few years old.

@jumpingthehighjump @padronpepper @TheAutumnalCrow

Thank you for clarifying. Good to know!

I'm really shocked then, by the level of financial excess and moral...decay...that's being revealed.

I think the RF really have to get their house in order, and quickly, if they expect this current generation, let alone the next, to continue supporting them. Charles seems to want a pleasant, uncontroversial reign, which is somewhat understandable because he's had to wait so very (rather inappropriately in my opinion) long to be Sovereign and also because he's had a lot of media controversy in his life when he was Heir Apparent, with the whole Diana & Camilla saga and I suppose now as an older man he doesn't wish to be at loggerheads with his brother, nieces, etc.

But if he doesn't stand up for the position, the position may not be there for William or George. We are living in times that are increasingly socially, economically, and politically volatile.

Royal families do not tend to fare well during such times.

Personally all this has me, a royalist supporter, re-evaluating and wondering if it would not be kinder to them as individuals and a family, to just put an end to it.

They do not seem like happy people, inhabiting a good institution, although have Royal Families ever really been that?

TheAutumnalCrow · 30/09/2025 15:39

You make a lot of good points there, @BadDinner.

justasking111 · 30/09/2025 15:44

Officially Andrew is confined to barracks has been for years. But unofficially ihave wondered if he does stay put.

I have said for a long time that the best thing they could have done was wind it up when E2 died.

They could have walked away with their dignity (and no doubt immense wealth) intact.

Instead we see them mired in scandal and fighting like rats in a sack.

So tawdry.

I disagree about the last phrase - where have you read anything so sensational?

We've had longstanding public estrangements, endless hostile press briefing and counter briefing, A apparently clinging on to RL like a limpet in the face of eviction attempts, W physically dumping H in a dog bowl and H allegedly boxing A's ears (admittedly this one was denied)

There may be more but all the indications are there's intrigue, infighting and not a lot of love lost behind the palace doors.

As I said above - tawdry.

padronpepper · 30/09/2025 20:11

Go back a generation from Charles and there is Margaret and all her marital woes, Philip's alleged multiple affairs; the generation prior to that the abdication and a son who became King, so terrified of his father that he could hardly speak...

If the Yorks or the RF sued wouldn’t that open them up to further exposure in court?

Well we know he hasnt been confined he is out and about standing next to them at some events. We know he was having Xmas with them, only now William has allegedly told him he is no longer welcome at Xmas...why now oh wait cos of the recent revelations and public outcry....as though before wasn't enough?

I doubt he will be kicked out into obscurity its all making the right noises publicly but he will still be there let in through secret entrances etc. Fast forward a few more years and he will be back in a public way too...rinse and repeat right.

IsthataYes · 11/10/2025 16:53

In the mail today an article stating fergie used to insist on having beef ,lamb and chicken served every night for her and the girls ! Barely ate or touched it and no efforts to save any

It's that repugnant if true

Yes I read that too.
Utterly disgusting.
How could you teach empathy to your children with that attitude.
It must have been so difficult for the staff who were probably on low wages as the Royal Family aren’t great salary payers apparently to see the total waste of good food.
SF should b ashamed of herself for that alone, not to mind all the rest.

It sounds like a load of nonsense to me. What would be the point.

He wasn’t there last year either.

padronpepper · 11/10/2025 17:48

@derxa
I think the point is she did it because she could. And who was going to say no to her?

IsthataYes · 11/10/2025 18:08

@derxa exactly ! Perhaps a bitter disgruntled employee ,and maybe it didn't happen every night ? But maybe it happened a few times or enough

jumpingthehighjump · 11/10/2025 18:12

@derxa I don't think it was a regular thing but even once is enough. I think it was "I can, so I will" as a PP said.
You ought to read the well sourced book. It's a complete eye opener but it does not show the royal family up in a good light. Especially QE2 protecting him despite knowing what he was up to, or choosing not to listen.

padronpepper · 11/10/2025 18:44

@derxa
The book makes for difficult reading.
The Yorks ploughed through millions of pounds, most of it paid for by the charities they purported to support, and by the taxpayers. Not once did any member of the RF interfere, intervene or attempt to stop them. Their well worn mantra ‘never complain, never explain’ served the whole family well.
Andrew Lownie deserves an honour for shining a light on their behaviour!
