Trump State Visit

A space for thoughts.

My first is that being at Windsor might make it easier to host a foreign leader. Which then begs the question as to whether in the modern age we really need Buckingham Palace. None of the royals like living there and I bet you'd make a fortune hiring it out for events and tourists.

Whilst i find Catherine's coat dresses a little boring it makes sense to have a sort of uniform.

Have you read the statements in the Hamas constitution?

Starmer may or may not be a coward, but if he said that (I didn't hear the speech) he is correct.

Edit: reply to @padronpepper

padronpepper · 19/09/2025 10:14

He may be correct in what he said about Hamas. But he deliberately did not speak about the genocide that Israel is carrying out in Gaza. That is what makes him a coward.

elprup · 19/09/2025 10:30

Did Camilla really shoo Kate away do we think (or as the Daily Mail put it, “pull rank”, lol)?

sminted · 19/09/2025 10:33

@elprup some of the comments on that article are pretty harsh!

elprup · 19/09/2025 10:35

I must admit some of the language used in the DM does make me laugh. It also said Kate was “transfixed” by the exhibition that Trump and the royals looked at. She’s probably seen it all a million times already!

bluegreygreen · 19/09/2025 10:42

@elprup I think she just told her the carriages were coming - weren't she and William to get in a separate one?

Keir Starmer is a coward through and through chummying up to Donald Trump the way he did during that conference. Telling Trump (and the world) how much they like and respect each other 🤮

Waffling on about putting the pressure on Putin. If it was that easy why didn’t they do it a long time ago?

Trump deflected the Mandelson question and Starmer dismissed it with a more bullshit.

These so called leaders are an absolute disgrace. They’re a complete laughing stock!

The UK is a laughing stock and the world is watching.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/09/2025 11:02

How would you suggest KS handles Trump?

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/09/2025 11:02

Sorry, that was to @KarmaComingToGetYaSweetCheeks

The US democratically elected Trump. And as a result, the rest of the world has to deal with Trump because his military has the only reusable rocket technology and space is the high ground. End of. (That is not reflecting the fact that the US has four of the top five air forces by aviation. The US Marines alone rank 5th...in aviation assets.)

The choice made by UK/Europe to outsource defense to the US so that these nations could fund generous social welfare programs...well now the bill for that choice is due. The price UK/Europe is paying is catering to the whims of a purely transactional President, which would be bad enough in good times but has the potential to be truly catastrophic in these turbulent geo-political times.

So, I can only applaud the UK for understanding the transactional nature of the visit and executing the quid pro quo...concessions for their nation in exchange for a royal fairytale complete with castles and dinners and parades.

It is not the UK's job to soothe outraged Democrats by disrespecting a duly elected President. Rather it is incumbent upon Democrats to understand why they lost the last election to highly problematic Republican candidate and switch up their ground game to win.

@Weepixie did you miss the bit where that poster repeatedly demanded I post photos of them on a public forum?

I saw them. And although I had mistakenly thought your mum was dying and she’s not, thank heavens, I still felt like you were being harassed.

Yes and so far only Starmer has been at all successful in his handling of Trump. As a result we are paying lower tariffs.

You can't remove a democratically elected Head of State, you have to learn how to deal with him in a way that doesn't cause much damage in his term of office.

Which involves sucking up to him and telling him how wonderful he is so that he doesn't turn on you on a whim

When he holds his meetings with all the prominent members of the administration they all have to take it in turns going around the table telling him what a wonderful person he is and how privileged they are to work with him. It is completely nauseating.

Doesn’t surprise me at all.

The RF is public property and people can say what they feel about them any time they wish.

it’s human nature to gawp, comment, criticise, praise, laud, love, admire, hate or envy any of them.

is anyone saying we should be quiet and nod and bow without any interaction?

Charles looks at least ten years older than he is and really does not look well.

Charles looks older than Trump I’d say

Agree with this.

I am also becoming less and less enamoured by so-called 'liberal' commentators (or MN posters!) who appear to agree with democracy only as far as allowing people they agree with to win elections.

How do you disallow someone you don't agree with from winning an election?

Barbadossunset · 19/09/2025 15:14

The RF is public property and people can say what they feel about them any time they wish.

That is true but you could say the same about any public figure. Is it ok to criticise say Diane Abbott or Greta Thunbergs’s appearance?

By raising a mob and storming the building in which the election results are being ratified, apparently.

Also by spending years bombarding them with false stories claiming the election result was invalid. For extra points, introduce this propaganda to your schools' curriculum:
