William's non attendance to important events

Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

Maybe it’s time for a referendum on whether we keep the royals as they are. I feel the country has less loyalty to them now QE2 has gone. Is it a good business to sink our money into? The old saying they bring in visitors, doesn’t wash with me. Visitors come for the history of the UK, the buildings etc which will still be here without the RF.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 09:02

Bashing the Wales family has not made the Sussexes more popular but you have to give their superfans credit for trying.

Excusing Chrissy Teigen and starting new threads to pivot, pivot, pivot

This is bizarre! can we not criticise the RF?

Ita not bashing the Wales its a perfectly good question...if he doesnt want to do the role then let.thsm go, cut down the taxpayers money going into the sovereign grant open up the buildings so tourism funds their upkeep.

Its perfectly okay to ask what is their purpose of they cant be bothered to even turn up to events of historical significance

A cute fluffy video about slowing down and spending time with family after her recovery. I’m sure so many millions of people with cancer would love to be afforded that luxury!

But what was the point of it, to tell the nation to spend more time with family?

The Sussex family has not been mentioned on this thread until now, so I’m not sure what they have to do with anything!

Nothing. It is called deflection, and is tiresome.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 09:04

The institution is in transition it will be interesting to see where it goes and what happens in the next five years.

Agree, that the bit I find interesting.

I presume to excuse their absence this year? But only from the events they find boring, of course. They’ll go to Wimbledon and the football! (Only for the men)

😁
The pivoting never disappoints.

Obviously I'm not a Royalist but I did respect the Queen.

Yawn

A luxury most of us cant afford to do its tone deaf. How do we do that when we have to go to work full time to earn enough to pay for the basics with upcoming looking tax rises...but sure let's just spend more time with the family guys 🤔🙄

Odd move as it just seems utterly pointless

He’s lazy. Simple As. Kate too, imo.

I’m not a supporter of the Royals but no one could seriously ever call them lazy. I really don’t envy them their life, despite their wealth.

I think this is what pisses me off so much.

My family have been through some horrendous health struggles in the last five years. At one point, my mum and I worked around the clock to keep the family business afloat because everyone else was sick. We then also cared for the sick family members and stretched ourselves unbelievably thin, and when they recovered? No time off, no months away from work, just back to normal to keep the business going. Real people don’t have these luxuries and frankly, why should the royals? They don’t do anything special.

You do realise this is a typical ‘engagement day’

  1. driven in chauffeur driven limo to meet some dignitaries
  2. walk 10yards to a ‘community centre’
  3. pull a bit of string or cut a ribbon
  4. shake hands with more poor people
  5. back in limo to be driven 200yards to another place
  6. meet more dignitaries
  7. Put on hard hat & safety goggles
  8. pose next to some equipment
  9. shake more hands of poor/young/black/old (ok, he never shakes old people’s hands)
  10. Etc etc etc
  11. there! 10 engagements and it’s not even lunch time,,,,this is actually how they count their ‘engagements!
  12. don’t even get me started on the amount of holidays they take…I suppose they need to get away from shaking hands with the poor.
  13. #downwiththecrown #notmyking

Per this imaginative list, there is no preparation for any event.

Apparently chatting with dignitaries is all off the cuff. No diplomatic talking points, nothing to see but people talking.

Fairy tales of the republic indeed!

You can't just have a referendum on the royal family, you also need to offer a complete constitutional alternative. I'm not against a referendum but I think Brexit has taught us that we need to know exactly what we are voting for, the details of the new plan. We can't just vote for a theory without knowing what will happen practically.

It’s not as if they don’t have the time to prepare! If all they have to do as work is read up on some notes for some scripted discussions, then…

Being realistic he will be King pretty soon, doesnt seem too wild to prioritise time with his family. Dont we always have to hear Harry harping on about his terrible childhood so doesnt seem a bad thing hes doing things a bit differently. I dont believe people are actually overly bothered about whether he attended x, y or z.

But most people with families have full time jobs and still manage to raise their children-without nannies. They don’t have to do anything too onerous. Just workshy.

Perhaps he could have attended the event in Wales - being Prince of Wales

Apparently, you know they "couldn't be bothered."

Please tell us how you know. Talk to Wills lately? Or Kate?

Or are you just making up a narrative to suit yourself.

Do you know of anyone who is a year out from completing cancer treatment and 7 months out from announcing they are cancer free and does not work?

Well sure, the majority of people with the means to would spend time over the summer with their children without working though.

Frankly I find it insulting that they have the ability to turn up to things that relate to their hobbies (football, Wimbledon), but can’t be bothered to turn up to things like this. And I include Catherine in that statement, at this point. She finished chemotherapy nearly a year ago and is in remission. Most normal people would be expected to be back to work at this point.

I assume you have never had cancer ? I have . According to scans I am cancer free but I still have after affects from the treatment.
None of us know how Catherine really is.

I have a month off over the summer, my dc are currently away at gps. I need a break 😆
