Actually, I looked it up and if Google is correct, Kate was paid but it didn't say how much. I guess it was the same for Sophie. I wonder if all of the readers, e.g. Tom Hardy, all get paid? Also, I wondered if the BBC approach everyone who comes on to read or whether THEY approach the BBC.

I am old enough to remember Jackanory and I remember Charles (my King, 16 curtsies) reading 'The Old Man of LochNagar' on that.

I also googled it and could find no evidence of payment being made to C and S .
Would appreciate a link . TIA .

It would be great if someone could add up how much Fergie and Andrew have screwed charities, businesses, staff and the taxpayer for over the last 40 years. It must run into 10s of millions of pounds.

HappySummerDays · 05/09/2025 20:05

The absolute conspiracy of silence by the Royal family and successive governments is a national disgrace.

I'm now reading the book and apparently very shortly after the fairy tale wedding Fergie is taking a 'People' magazine sponsorship relating to a charitable theatre performance for a presidential suite and parties for assorted hangers-on.

I have no idea why others after that didn't see her coming.

In the mid 80s there was no way of knowing - no internet. Deference to the royal family was ingrained- god knows why, they’re a shitshow.

HappySummerDays · 05/09/2025 21:35

Charles, Anne, Edward and William are also complicit in the cover up.
Though the Princess of Wales’ hair seems to generate more column inches ..

Absolutely. They could get away with absolutely anything given there was no internet, no investigative journos reporting as it happened, no social media asking WHY can this happen, no joining up of the dots

Why anyone thinks they are all playing it above board now, defeats me.
They are just more clever hiding it because they have to, and the pathetic British press allows it

HappySummerDays · 05/09/2025 21:45

Fergie still wearing her stupid ‘never complain, never explain’ velvet shoes.
Have the King or the POW any balls at all??

That was quite funny because she looked a complete wazzock!

HappySummerDays · 05/09/2025 21:53

She did. Total loon.
Where are the infamous ‘grey suits?
Are the Yorks now beyond Palace control?

If ever the Yorks are questioned in the press, the stock answer from the Palace is "Prince Andrew is no longer a working member of the Royal Family"
Convenient!
As for Sarah, a divorced for 30 years from a non working member of the RF.... 😠

HappySummerDays · 05/09/2025 22:00

How can any intelligent person have any respect for any of them.

jumpingthehighjump · 05/09/2025 22:01

No idea. The bit of my brain that reveres them is totally missing

thenightsky · 05/09/2025 22:06

I used to think the late Queen was ok. I'm changing my mind now. She must have known about Andrew at the very least and did nothing.

Also being invited to Sandringham and Balmoral.

I expect in your zeal for accuracy you will provide a link to the claim that Kate was paid.

Since you "guess" it was the same for Sophie, I assume that your google search failed to yield results.

Awaiting the Google evidence.

Well, I like accuracy, especially if someone owes me £123.45 and they try to palm me off with £101.76, but I don't know how to link. I put some words into Google, like 'Did Kate get paid for reading on Jackanory?' and an answer came up talking, I think, about the Sovereign Grant. I just didn't bother looking up Sophie as well because I assumed that the circumstances would be the same for her.

So you didn’t find anything saying that the BBC paid Catherine or Sophie ?

The late Duchess of Kent seems to be getting quite a lot of respectful comments made about her, presumably by un-intelligent oafs.

I'll see if I can find what I read last night. I have to try to remember which words I put into Goog.

Label me an unintelligent oaf but I am sad to see the passing of a true Yorkshire lady.

CurlewKate · 06/09/2025 02:05

A cursory google suggests that neither the PoW or the DofE were paid for their CBeebies appearances. Neither was Charles for his Jackanory appearance back in the 1980s, but as the profits from the book went to the Prince’s Trust, that charity would presumably have profited from extra sales.

That’s what I gleaned plus it highlighted Catherine and Sophie’s charities.

Lots and lots of in-person networking though. Industry events, conferences, gala nights etc.

I'm quite sure there must have been whispers about her grasping and probably some giving her a swerve even then but sadly not much making the deferential press and thus into the public domain.

We do better now but there's still far too much under wraps.
