He totally is.

And I had the dubious pleasure once of encountering his brother while he was spouting anti-vaxxer stuff through a loud speaker in my local town. He shared the platform with that ex-nurse who (if you remember) snook into a disused hospital ward, photographed the empty beds and opted on SM claiming the pandemic was all a government conspiracy.

I was proud of my town that day. The either scoffed at him or walked on by.

To be fair, I don’t think he can be held responsible for his Bonkers Brother-I think they are estranged, anyway.

Indeed !
although I must admit I’m losing my enthusiasm for the book now! 🤷‍♀️

Just a thought though - does the author get to say what is extracted for the papers? Or do they get an early copy and do it themselves? Because I was always under the impression (having worked for a national paper way way back) that the papers did their own extracts. So all this blaming the author seems unfair.

Really, @vera99 ? "the popularity he has among so many"?
Jeremy Corbyn, the man who led the Labour Party to disaster allowing the Red Wall to collapse and Boris Johnson to become PM? That Jeremy Corbyn? So, not hugely popular with the electorate, then.

As a personal aside, my dh and I don’t discuss politics ( I don’t discuss it with anyone, recipe for disaster!) but during that particular election he asked and drove me to the voting station to make sure we voted against Jeremy Corbyn ! , it was an unprecedented moment from my dh !
he was (as I’ve mentioned previously) ex forces and the antisemitism was not the reason!

@Weepixie

Yes, I’m with you there. A shocking lapse of judgment which does impact his other content.

I agree it’s a shocking lack of judgement. But it’s all part of the clickbait PR- I’m assuming that if anything criminal had actually taken place the publishers wouldn’t have let it pass.

No indeed. I was just so angry that he allowed BJ to have a landslide. Selfish, arrogant man.

Not always no , there is normally a different name under the byline.
on this occasion the author Andrew lownie was proudly displayed!

Either the author wrote it, or they didn't.

C'mon now, you have to understand that presenting things in a wider context (like a book) can give a very different view on them than a condensed, cherry picked highlights.

I understand context. However, the point was either made or it wasn't.

To be scrupulously fair, I know you’re right!

But on the other point I’ve sat at a table of Jewish friends and colleagues (before the terrible war in Gaza) and was struck by how genuinely frightened they were by Corbyn. One, a lifetime Labour supporter said he’d never vote Labour while Corbyn or his mates were in control.

Far from being Mr Cuddly of the Allotment Patch, I think he’s a sinister and bitter man.

Sorry I forgot to add , apparently he also gave a YouTube interview, apparently he mentioned some of the questionable things ( I did not watch it , so do not know the full details!) but he seemed apparently quite happy with the way it was serialised in the mail.

He certainly is. Also, very arrogant and entitled.

I take your point, @OlympicWomen, but wasn't it really the Labour membership who "allowed" Boris's landsliide, bearing in mind Corbyn had already massively lost a vote of no confidence from his MPs and still the membership wanted him?

And while I agree that "I don’t think he can be held responsible for his Bonkers Brother", @CurlewKate, he certainly can be for his choice of friends - and if we're talking about antisemitism you only have to look at his preference for Chris Williamson

I dislike and distrust all politicians, I no longer see a difference between parties, they are all the same grifting lying entity , whatever reasons and Manifestos they originally had when they formed the main parties are long gone.
But as I said discussing politics makes even like minded people disagree!
i don’t understand the outrage about boris Johnson! , he was elected and proceeded to be … boris Johnson 🤷‍♀️ , I’m surprised people thought he would suddenly change after becoming PM .

And a supporter of terrorists

MrsLeonFarrell · 10/08/2025 13:27

Following the diversion, Jeremy Corbyn reminds me of a lot of people I encountered when I was heavily involved in student politics. Absolutely convinced that his views are correct and that he will therefore always be on the right side of any debate. Unable to listen to anything beyond his own echo chamber or compromise. Arrogant and condescending to those who disagree and who only need to be educated to realise that he is right.

It makes for a very successful student politician but real politics is always about compromise and bringing people with you.

MrsLeonFarrell · 10/08/2025 13:29

Rather than control the press I believe what the Royal household does is that same and what every successful PR does. Seek to present the best image of their client, backed up with nice positive stories and try to block negative headlines by offering access or an alternative narrative. The household, like the best PR groups, are good at what they do.

I quite enjoyed it at the time but I do cringe a little at my belief that it was possible to be right about everything, no matter what the subject! The purity spiral catches everyone out eventually.

Yes, I must admit I’m yet to meet a politician ( young or old) who doesn’t make me feel like he’s trying to sell me a dodgy , used car!
