PP + TLQ tolerated a whole lot of bad behaviour from Andrew including paying for the Windsor castle gates he smashed through in a temper (although ultimately the bill as always would have fallen to the taxpayer 🙄) and the clothes and equipment of the press cohort he sprayed with paint.

Please don’t get me wrong - I’m not making excuses for anyone - but what went wrong with Andrew? I’m sure his parents didn’t have full charge of him as a small child and the nannies the RF employ are top-notch. Normand (and similar) nannies are well-known for their consistent discipline and for setting standards of behaviour, so I’d be interested to know how he turned out as he did.

The other siblings have had their moments but nothing like what we’ve heard over the years about Andrew. Apart from youthful embarrassments like Edward’s Royal IAKO flounce and Anne telling photographers to ‘go away’ after she fell at a water jump, they all seem to know how to behave!

i know no-one can a see this here, but I’m always fascinated by how people brought up in a similar context turn out so differently. Just being mum’s favourite doesn’t really explain it.

Norland

I can’t express in words my contempt for autocorrect.

What I find beyond shocking with all of this about Andrew is the huge security issues...
Epstein selling Andrew's intimate secrets to foreign intelligent agencies ...Mossad, Libya under Gaddafi, Saudi Arabia, and even there appears to be kompromat with the Kremlin and Putin

It just goes to show that when there is someone like Andrew within the family, security and even intelligence forces and MI6 appear to be powerless. He could ride roughshod over all of them and his entitlement meant he could ignore any reining in. He always said the only person he was answerable to was his mother and she quite obviously enabled him and I put a lot of the blame at her door.

Everyone knew, no one did anything but it appears from the timing in the article that when he was totally out of control he was given the trade envoy role I presume to try and rein him in. That went well, not. It just meant he could travel around the world on the taxpayers ticket doing what he has always done and it became even more murky as he was representing the UK on the world stage.

After he finished the trade role he then of course went on to that pitch at palace money making scheme, and that was seriously dodgy and I am looking forward to Lownie's take on that

It also appears there is far more to come out about the connections with Epstein.

Will the BBC mention any of it on the News this morning. No

NewAgeNewMe · 03/08/2025 07:54

He was answerable to his mother. He is now answerable to his brother. In the future he will be answerable to his nephew. Let’s see if William deals with the Andrew problem. Once and for all.

I suspect being TLQ’s favorite gad a lot to do with it. And he was the only one of PP’s sons who came anywhere near what he would have wanted. Charles and Edward would both have been, in his eyes, pretty feeble characters. And Ann was obviously a girl, so no use to anyone.

I’m going to start a Aldi nanny agency called Normand.

A friend of a friend served with Andrew in the Falklands and 'tosser' was the word he used for him as well. He expected everyone to stand on ceremony even in the middle of a war.

He's just repellent.

I remember when the PA/ Epstein allegations seriously emerged, with that photo of PA with Virginia Giuffre (RIP). Immediately, very high ranking former military officials were all over the press, very openly slagging Prince Andrew off, recalling their memories of his past, atrocious behaviour. I couldn't believe it. It was as though they'd all been sitting seething with rage for 40 years, but feeling unable to say anything.
Suddenly the gloves were off and it was fabulous.

CoffeeCantata · 03/08/2025 08:03

@jumpingthehighjump

I really hope this will result in him either facing some kind of enquiry, or at the least, being moved to a 2up, 2 down cottage somewhere and forbidden from even walking to church with the RF.

I’d love him to face a really tough interrogation followed by consequences.

If he tried to blackmail KC, surely it’s possible to slap an NDA on him in exchange for his cottage?

A friend of a friend served with him in the Falklands and loathed him.

Charles didn’t have a bad rep in the forces, I don’t think - except for being socially awkward and a bit goofy, bless him.

jumpingthehighjump · 03/08/2025 08:08

He won't be moving from his massive pile, not in a million years. Both he and his ex-wife will be there till the end of their days and he has said that he wants his daughters to take it over when he is gone!
I honestly will eat my hat if he moves out!

CurlewKate · 03/08/2025 08:11

I know there is this received wisdom that TLQ never put a foot wrong- but her treatment of Andrew was one of the times she did.

Charles didn't serve though, did he? He just has the uniform as part of his ceremonial roles. I don't know if he even went to Sandhurst..?

He took command of a Naval frigate at one point, and was away at sea for a while. I think he was at Naval college, rather than Sandhurst.
He also got qualified as a pilot and is therefore entitled to wear the wings.

i'm sure he's picked up something!

I quite agree - I also think her handling of Harry was very wrong.

Charles needs to sort the Andrew situation out - totally unfair to leave it to William.

And all sealed documents should be released as well. But I also think there should be way more transparency regarding the royals and their finances.

stillavid · 03/08/2025 08:22

I would love to know what William, Zara, Anne etc think of Andrew and all his 'blood princess' crap.

Too many secrets there! What was that story about Charles talking bags of suitcases of cash?

Difficult to rein someone in with an ego and a personality flaw like he has.
Half his brain operates from inside his trousers and the other half from up his own behind.

He thought his interview with Emily Maitlis was a success, says it all really.🙄

Yes, that's so true - on all counts! That interview was astonishing.
