I wonder if all his cousins will be invited......

Tetbury? It’s lovely, it’s near to Highgrove and maybe Gatcombe and I think Eugenie or Beatrice got married there.

I’m very envious of anyone who gets to have a wedding in a lovely Cotswolds town.

Starseeking · 01/08/2025 20:41

JSMill · 01/08/2025 16:40

Good luck to them both! (I’m assuming PP has learned his lesson from last time and won’t be selling the wedding photos to Hello!)

The engagement pictures have been sold to Hello so it seems that ship has already sailed…(do they still print Hello?!?)

Congratulations, but a quick engagement after a year!

Probably a case of when you know, you know. He was apparently with his previous girlfriend for 3 years after his divorce.

Neither got married there.

It's a second marriage so as far as I'm concerned, nothing to do with us!

Eugenie and Beatrice were both married at Windsor. Eugenie in St George’s Chapel and Beatrice in the Royal Chapel of All Saints.

MrsLeonFarrell · 01/08/2025 21:02

I hope they are happy together.

MrsLeonFarrell · 01/08/2025 21:06

Most of the late Queen's grandchildren have had fairly low key ceremonies (albeit for a given value of low key because they are all rich). I expect it will be like Zara's, who i think got married in Scotland, press outside but not televised or anything. Eugenie had a bit of a performance wedding but I seem to remember that Andrew insisted on it, pompous idiot.

Yes, that’s what I read also, and apparently he started going out with his fiancé within a few weeks after splitting up with his previous partner, and now a year later is engaged. Mumsnet would usually frown upon such a quick turn around! (But I wish them well).

BBC decided not to televise the wedding live . Eventually it was shown during a special This Morning show .
Andrew was determined Eugenie would have the same as Harry - carriage ride etc .

Yes, Andrew was supposedly not best pleased that the BBC declined to broadcast his daughter's wedding.

I thought Eugenie's wedding - carriage ride and all - was a bit OTT for the then 9th in line to the throne. I did love her dress though. As it turned out, it was the last major royal wedding in the Queen's lifetime, as Beatrice's was so scaled back due to Covid. Peter's wedding is likely to be pretty low key. And then we'll have to wait maybe two decades for the next major royal wedding!

Ohpleeeease · 02/08/2025 02:37

I just watched a Palace Confidential special on royal engagements where Rebecca English was saying we’d be waiting at least ten years for another one, so she’ll be pleased!

Surely he must reap some benefits from the taxpayer?

Imagine if George etc choose not to marry!

Or chose to marry a man.
Just theoretically. What would the spouse be called? I've often wondered this about American presidents. ?first gentleman?
Anyway it wouldn't really matter if George did not marry or sire an heir. Charlotte would be excellent as his heir.
And then there's Louis if Charlotte did likewuse.
Fortunately. No need to think any further...

I think if George were gay, there would be a cover-up

No - not by the 2040s.

i think we’ll have other things to worry about by then!

Thedom · 02/08/2025 08:17

Remember when he said this 😀, getting a real dig in. -

"There will be a few more guests here today than Harry and Meghan had, but that is the nature of Eugenie and Jack, they have so many friends," Prince Andrew said

I think they'd bestow an existing title on the male spouse of a (future) king and he would be known by that title - Duke of Midchester, or wherever it was - similar to the spouse of a Queen, e.g. the Duke of Edinburgh. I don't think they would invent titles such as 'First Gentleman' when an existing protocol can quite easily be adopted.

The PR around any official partner of the Royals is always carefully managed. I think if one of them chose a same-sex partner it would be very much turned to PR advantage - there'd probably be interviews about the bravery required to come out - it would be seen as a way of gaining popularity within the LGB community and allies. The royal in question might make an appearance at a Windsor Pride event and that kind of thing. They would make the most of it.

ScarlettOYara · 02/08/2025 08:30

I agree, @PerfectTuesday . It would be a positive.

I honestly think the Royal Family — and “the men in grey suits” — have learned the hard way not to interfere with personal relationships. Edward VIII abdicated for love. The whole mess with Charles and Diana happened because Camilla was deemed an unsuitable choice of bride. Even now, people still vilify her as “the other woman,” despite the fact that she and Charles have shared a long, stable, and loving relationship for decades.

Even with Harry, many of his friends and family felt he was rushing into things. But despite the concerns, the Queen ultimately supported his decision to marry Meghan, likely understanding that trying to control someone’s choice in love rarely ends well.

If George were gay, I’d like to believe the institution would have evolved by then. Either they’d change the rules around heirs and surrogacy, or the line would continue through Charlotte or Louis. Love and authenticity matter far more to the public now than outdated traditions — and I think the monarchy knows it has to adapt if it’s going to survive.

Briantheguitargod · 02/08/2025 08:46

I would like to think in this day and age (and even more in the future) any of them being gay would not be a big thing.

Other than the lineage changing.
It would have to go via Charlotte or Louis or eeeeeek Archie or Lillliiiibbbettttt
