King Charles hosts French President for State Visit

After Brexit, the Royal Family (Queen Elizabeth and then King Charles) have deployed soft power to support Anglo-French rapprochement.

Hopefully politicians will pursue improved co-operation between the two nations as it is critical for security (Ukraine war) and prosperity (reducing trade barriers for small to medium businesses hit hard by increased red tape post-Brexit).

He gave a wonderful tribute to our late Queen. The best of all of them in my opinion.
So many English can't stand the French, anything French and would never consider going there. They even hark back to the war, although not old enough to remember it. Their loss.

I love how the ladies have gone for tri colours. They all look amazing.

I thought Catherine looked amazing. Loved her outfit. Charles looks so ill poor man. Brigotte Macron is so very very odd. She seemed to stare at the ground a lot and seemed disengaged and bored. She looks like a cadaver , it’s so bizarre. There is a story there for sure. The body language between her and Macron wasn’t good.

Why do so many think the King looks v. ill? I don't see that, apart from the red eye problem, which I once had myself unconnected with any illness. I'm just looking at the press pics, so maybe there are other subtle signs of his illness in TV clips. I wish him well anyway. I suppose we mustn't forget that he is no spring chicken, but at the same time is only a few years older than myself!

Hi skin is very grey and lined and I think he looks exhausted.

Catherine’s dress is absolutely vile and makes her look about 70. Why do the royals insist on dressing young(ish) women in such frumpy clothes?

Catherine’s dress looks better in motion, especially when you can see her arms and the dress moving.

Also, Anne looks fantastic.

I don’t suppose she didn’t get the casting vote, but I agree, it’s horrid.

Do you think Catherine's hair has been Cellophaned? I've never seen it so shiny.

I thought Catherine looked lovely in the Dior suit but I don't think that red dress does a lot for her. Maybe it's the colour. I think a brighter or lighter red would have been more flattering. Camilla looks spot on I think.

It’s just so uptight - she’s only 43! Mind you I seem to recall Diana being forced into some hideous dowdy dresses before she got divorced and finally started dressing like someone in her mid 30’s, rather than mid 60’s. Would have been interesting to see how her style evolved as she got older.

I wonder what Camilla makes of Brigitte, given the domestics violence angle… I bet she does frosty and skeptical very well. And I bet Brigitte has got not gaf down pat. Nasty woman.

I wish I knew Anne's secret for staying so trim all her life. Must be the horseriding. Her rig out is so much nicer than Catherine's but I think it's the colour that's wrong on Catherine, it's just so nondescript and the dress is very plain.

Who decides on the outfits for these banquets anyway, since if Catherine can choose, I'm afraid she didn't make the best choice tonight.

I get the impression that Anne is very disciplined. I bet she'd see over indulging as a weakness.

It's Sarah Burton for Givenchy - so the British designer who made her wedding dress now running a French fashion house - so that's part of the element - then she probably didn't want to do the same colour as the Queen or the President's wife. Side by side the three of them make a French flag.

I actually quite like it - as a PP said it's better in motion than on a still image. Big sigh over the boring Lover's Knot tiara again though.

Diana wore the Lover’s Knot a lot. Is it the tiara of choice for the Princess of Wales/future Queen?

I read somewhere years ago that she makes a habit of only eating half of what is on her plate.

I agree about Catherine’s dress, that red looks very “dead” somehow. Perhaps the fabric is more sumptuous irl than it appears in photos.

I also think there’s something about not overshadowing Camilla at these events. When Catherine is the star of the show she very much looks it.

I thought the tricolour effect was a nice touch.

Catherine looked lovely. A wonderful flowing red gown that suits her brunette hair.

She was seated next to President Macron some of the pictures and looked every inch a Princess.

In the photo of William and Catherine together it's easy to see how well they'll look as King and Queen eventually.

The red dress looks better when you can see the arms, otherwise it looks like a teenager who insists on pulling their sleeves down until their hands no longer exist. It's clear that Catherine had no choice with the colour.

Great photo of Catherine and William, I didn’t like her dress at first, but it has grown on me and it’s perfect for the event.

Brigritte Macron recently looks like she is spaced out, she is younger than Camilla but Camilla is far more sprightly and with it.

How ridiculous.

Normally those jewel colours look amazing on Catherine but I think she’s still not 100% back to health. You can’t really tell from the photos inside but the ones outside make her look a bit frail.
