The Era of Joy didn't last long.

This is going to be interesting, it's going to be a full on PR onslaught for the next few months, and then we will have Harry launching his very own 'commercial project'.

Clearly an article straight from the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, giving an exclusive to the DM.

The broader issue is with all the comms people on board how did such a basic error happen.

M's target market, the aspirational tradwife, will more than likely garden herself to some extent and have an awareness of what is in season. And in upscale grocery store where the target market would shop, there are signs pointing out the fruits that are in season.

It seems that each Instagram post further erodes M's tradwife brand.

The poor comms people. Speaking as one myself, I think she is ignoring advice or not taking it at all, using H as her camera man, and posting herself using her phone. Just her usual out-of-control self.

YourTruthorMine · 29/05/2025 18:14

I think at this stage, she is just raising awareness for her brand **Ever, by any means she can, including chaos creating. There is no way this is about Jam, that's just more of her piss taking.

A dog sniffing around food is not cute.

A lot of her posts feature dogs in very close proximity to food. That alone would put me off her brand. I know it's all made in a factory, but someone who lacks even basic knowledge of food hygiene is not someone I would want to be 'influenced' by.

Edited

Slight derail but I recently saw a woman sharing her ice cream with her chihuahua. It had a lick and then she did 🤢

Serenster · 29/05/2025 18:24

I agree., YourTruthorMine. And it’s working. Look, we are talking about a bag full of vegetables. Hardly riveting content, objectively speaking.

My2cents1975 · 29/05/2025 18:54

By showcasing her brand badly, M is putting people off her brand. It not simply getting people to talk about her brand...it is getting people to talk positively about her brand and view M as an aspirational figure and not as an inauthentic figure to be ridiculed and mocked.

Being a tradwife is a business requiring all the ingredients any successful business needs to thrive...a vision, a strategy, a strong team, marketing (including disciplined messaging consistent with the brand), operations (to actually deliver a product), etc.

The tradwife bar has been set in the US market by the likes of Nara Smith and Hannah Neeleman. That is the competition against which M is being measured by her target US consumers and M is failing badly.

The business of tradwives—and why brands keep working with them

catin8oot5 · 29/05/2025 19:20

It’s wild how she was posturing herself as this massive feminist philanthropist, ready to take on the world and all its injustices. Shake up the commonwealth ‘boots to the ground’

Now she’s flogging crap jam, arranging flowers doing the whole trad wife thing, whilst Harry is spiralling.

Bonkers

Vespanest · 29/05/2025 19:25

I have a problem with the gardening, the ills of social media that she campaigns against are not just the nasty threats but the constant glamourising of a perfect life, if you're portraying fakeness on SM you are part of the problem. It contradicts her language about not everything being about perfection when she lies about her abilities. It's clear she has supporters who idolise her, who she want to sell to and inspire, not only can not match up to her wealth, they can never match her abilities as it's clear many are over exaggerated.

Nara Smith's and Hannah Neelham's content is wonderfully conceived and produced, highly distinctive, and subtly self-mocking. Slapping a still on Instagram of you in your garden, snapped by your DH, doesn't even begin to compare.

All posts seem pointless as brand-building when there are no products to purchase and no-one knows exactly when there will be.

Edited to add final sentence

But I have a small bay tree on my tiny patio and I wash the leaves when I use them because who knows what cute Mr Robin has done on them.

Cute Mr Robin morphs into the world's most relentless shitting demon when it comes to drying washing outside.

Either that or an eagle...

BasiliskStare · 29/05/2025 21:00

@Vespanest - I would agree with you there. I think one of the worst things about this kind of perfect life posting - and it started with FB etc - is it puts pressure on those who don't have a perfect life and believe those posts. . Obviously SM bullying just dreadful but probably easier to tackle or ought to be. At least ought to be easier than it seems like it is.

HiRen · 29/05/2025 22:35

Loro Piana mules? MULES? That's about as tacky as red and green stripes on your sneakers, with your branded LV sweatpants and matching zipped hoodie. You wear LP knitwear, or tailoring, or cashmere coat, and it was originally menswear anyway. This is spending new money for the sake of it - or for the sake of posting a photo of you having spent it. Agggh, cringing for her. Tacky tacky tacky.

As for the straight-from-the-farmers-market vegetables, as ever she thinks she's being clever. She never said they were from her garden, did she?

She doesn't even have the good humour to take the piss out of herself, she's just so serious and yet so tacky.

foreverblowingbubbless · 30/05/2025 00:28

She is indeed a wizard of gardening as corn isn't even in season yet there. 🙄

MonteShitshow · 30/05/2025 09:58

Maybe she was showcasing her gardenER’S skills?

Their advisors should really have made Harry do the zoom lecture. It would have generated very positive headlines for once.

He seems to just want the headlines, positive or not. Plus, it's all about the travelling and the high profile.

Mylovelygreendress · 30/05/2025 15:25

If you believe Crazy Days and Nights ( who are often accurate) she sent an assistant to the local market for the vegetables .

He set the precedent. Harry took it to the next level. The whole things a soap opera but with real human lives being impacted. Sad all around.

Harry’s “book” was more akin to an article in the National Enquirer

BasiliskStare · 30/05/2025 21:01

@HiRen , Is Loro Piana a bit like when Burberry started being worn by people just to show what you had spent & it all went a bit south. I think Burberry are getting the brand back now but it did go through a dodgy phase IIRC.

HiRen · 30/05/2025 21:44

It’s more like Cartier, I’d say @BasiliskStare. There was a time when Cartier and probably even Tiffany were exclusive and aspirational (Tiffany stopped being that before Cartier did). LP was never widely known of as a brand. Now it’s everywhere, but you still need a bit of cash. Burberry was never that (relatively speaking) expensive. Now every other mom at pick up has a Cartier bangle (mostly the one MM wears, although in my circles they’ve been wearing them longer than she has!, sometimes the juste un clou type), van Cleef necklaces, Hermes slides etc. They aren’t doing the ridiculous waiting-list approach that Hermes is with its bags. They’re just going for it, but in the same controlled fashion that Cartier used, rather than anything-and-everything that Burberry deployed. And actually it’s seeing the brand on such mainstream people as Meghan that’s doing it.

TheAutumnCrow · 29/05/2025 16:39

It’s got to be deliberate at this point.

It’s apparently escalated since that Meredith M person took over the PR.

Like the Ship of Fools painting by Hieronymus Bosch.

@HiRen thank you - interesting . I'd still be happy with a Cartier gold tank francaise - but they've been around for abut 30 years so I don't think there is any Meghan - or even Diana effect from that. But yes I see your point re Burberry / piana. Thank you

I’d almost agree except that Meghan has shown no ability ever to laugh at herself - she takes herself so so seriously. I mean she was horrified when Mariah Carey suggested she could be a bit of a diva, and just listen to her podcast, she had a serious discussion with a guest about how even her blood type is “overachieving”.

Spectre8 · 31/05/2025 08:14

I wear white trainers gardening, not very expensive and they don't get that dirty unless I start stepping into flower beds after it's rained and its muddy

I'm guessing they're not Loro Piana, costing $100s? Anyway, your choice what you wear for gardening, her choice too. However, this would appear to be less gardening, more Trad Wife in the garden, but that's the vibe she's selling, so good luck to her. At least she's not whining or trashing the RF.

No ability to laugh at herself is very true. I think it's that lack of self awareness. I think there are massive problems, but at least with all this housewife vibe she's trying to do her own thing.
