The Era of Joy didn't last long.

This is going to be interesting, it's going to be a full on PR onslaught for the next few months, and then we will have Harry launching his very own 'commercial project'.

Clearly an article straight from the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, giving an exclusive to the DM.

Is there a reason he couldn't do a Zoom lecture?

He needs to be photographed and filmed.
He needs the headlines.

There's the famous Nicholas Witchell comment isn't there by KC on the skiing holiday, which was a long time ago but by and large I think most of the WRF realise there's a trade off with the press and try to do a bit of give and take. I think the fact that most of W's school , university years went largely without comment & H's tour of duty being disrupted was only due to an unfortunate Australian media cock up meant things have been easier between the RF & the pres. Harry I think has a bee in his bonnet which he can't just let go. & I think he should.

An easy thing for Harry to do. He can release it into Meghan's hive.

Is there a reason he couldn't do a Zoom lecture?

Two related reasons why not. People would see him through a Zoom lens. And the authenticity of community and connection are at the heart of the Sussex brand. 😄

Personally I think Zoom lectures are pretty grim.

However, when you're speaking on behalf of an 'organisation' which is (supposedly) specifically aimed at reducing the environmental damage caused by flying, then travelling across the world, presumably 1st class, for a photo op is ludicrous.

Also, a Zoom lecture might be OK if there was some substance to it. But Harry hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. It's his princely presence that is the 'draw'. So off he goes on yet another gas guzzling jet for a photo op.

He will be pissed off with The Times today,

Travelyst refused to disclose the carbon emissions for Harrys return trip to Shanghai. Its laughable really 😂

https://archive.ph/rS4rE

It is not known what flight Harry took to China. Travalyst declined to share its own model’s estimates for the amount of harmful emissions caused by an average first-class return flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai, when asked by The Times.

On average, a passenger travelling first-class on a return flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai causes the equivalent of 6311.32kg or 6.31 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions,

These emissions could be anywhere between 10 and 100 times higher in a private jet, depending on the type of aircraft.

According to the carbon emissions calculator of FlightFree USA, a campaign group urging people to fly less, “avoiding this trip [Los Angeles to Shanghai] is as climate friendly as carpooling for 3.7 years”.

The calculator also claimed that a passenger who mades a return flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai, for example, would cause more emissions of greenhouse gases in a single trip than 3.5 billion people emit over the course of a year.

Wow! That's pretty reckless in the name of this.

Looking at the latest post from the duo, can you actually eat the solid honeycomb bit that she added to the jar or is it just decorative?

My mum used to be given it as a treat! Apparently you chew it then spit it out when the honey is all gone.

Ah okay that makes sense. I went down the rabbit hole of beekeeping and benefits of raw honey, managed to contact a local beekeeper and am visiting them soon so will give it a try. Also apparently if you eat local honey from your area you don’t get hay fever and seasonal allergies as much.

ChevronShoes · 28/05/2025 23:15

PaperAlchemy · 28/05/2025 08:33

Just saw on twitter that there’s been a correction added for the article- apparently there will be a restock soon of existing products and the quote about reassessing and launching next year was to do with new products.

This is hilarious! Omg they hire enough people to run a branch of McDonald’s 24/7 and they still can’t get the messaging right. Absolute bunch of amateurs.

I wonder who’ll get the blame for this one.

I reckon it’s so he was far away from Canada when KC was opening parliament, in an attempt to put easy pay to a media frenzy of “why didn’t they meet???” which never actually transpired…

BemusedAmerican · 28/05/2025 23:44

I only buy local wildflower honey which I use in my coffee and tea in place of sugar. I have much less of a seasonal allergy problem than my co-workers.

Zoom calls would be to the advantage of the hapless people forced to listen to Harry. They could drink a hot beverage and scroll through their phone while he waffles in the background.

California is pretty far away from Canada. He should look at an atlas.

It’s just grandiosity isn’t it - nobody who really had concern for the environment would fly LA to Shanghai for a single speech that could be given via a screen. I mean if it was a decent sized crowd there would have been a screen anyway, so what’s the difference apart from the emissions.

But Harry considers himself a global statesman, wants to be thought of in that way, so he does what he thinks a global statesman does. He’s basically a preschooler playing with a doctor’s outfit, a little girl trying on mum’s high heels. And everyone is laughing at him, as usual. He will never be a global statesman, because he has no intellect to speak of, no experience of any use, he fucks up all the time and has a terrible reputation for stupidity, hypocrisy and entitlement which means nobody takes him seriously, he’s indiscreet, a laughing stock, a self-confessed drug user, and most importantly, he has no power and never will have. Plus most will be wary of cosying up to him because they’d prefer to be in with the RF. It’s just desperate really, and it’s only going to get worse as he gets older and yet more irrelevant. Meanwhile his brother will be head of state of course, and his SIL will be queen.

ThePoshUns · 29/05/2025 07:16

I agree with everything you said @NormaMajors1992coat

Weepixie · 29/05/2025 07:37

Well said @NormaMajors1992coat

re his trip to China - I suspect he’s at the stage he’d go to the opening of an envelope in order to have something to break the monotony of his bone idle and wasted life.

MayaKovskaya · 29/05/2025 07:42

"Harry considers himself a global statesman".
Very true, @NormaMajors1992coat . His entitlement, grandiosity and foolishness really shine out sometimes.

I found this article this morning, interesting reading and more evidence of the familiar hypocrisy. It's old but I missed it at the time;

I think a lot of it is not knowing how much machinery there is behind the smokescreen as well. He aspires to that previous level of "fame" while being oblivious that a lot of it was manufactured cache.

As just 1 example, once I was at the airport for dinner (common in my country) and some British press officials started lining people (both bored locals and excited tourists) up and giving them UK flags to wave. Of course we accepted like good old rubberneckers. Everyone thought there was going to be some waterfall light show because there are loads of such shows.

The next day we were in the huge crowd featured on UK front page news about the adoring masses that had gathered to welcome William and Kate (I think it was, or some other RF). Plus that area is always this crowded, it's a tourist attraction in its own right!

I can 1000000% guarantee nobody in my country knows or cares about the royals. (I only do because I lived in the UK!) Most people wouldn't be able to name Elizabeth, Charles, Harry or William. Kate maaaaaybe at a stretch from some online news articles. But they'd made it seem like people from an ex colony had gathered to welcome them. I think Harry sadly still suffers from trying to replicate this delusion. But he hasn't got the RF PR machinery behind him.

MayaKovskaya · 29/05/2025 08:01

Good points, @forsakensleep - he has chosen not to be a working royal, not to have any of the responsibilities and strictures, but still getting the benefits. You're right about the following and images of support, he'll have had that all his life. Wise people question it, though. I remember Prince Philip saying "you have to remember that the support and cheering isn't for you personally, it's for the role and what you represent".
Harry should consider this.

Yes but I think my point was there IS no support and cheering, really 😅 it's like if a kpop group went down the crowded swamp that is Oxford Street and handed out lightsticks with their logo on. People would accept because hey why not. And then bam, the next day, press releases about how that kpop group's "fans" took London.

I've been outside Buckingham Palace as a tourist of course and there are lots of people genuinely interested in the royal family. But the global image of fans I feel is largely totally fake. Which Harry (and his sibling/sibling in laws still embedded within the RF, but that's not relevant here) possibly still doesn't get. I feel like he never really stood a chance on his own.

MayaKovskaya · 29/05/2025 08:10

Who knows, some fake, some orchestrated, some genuine - like the scenes of the late Queen's Jubilee, her funeral and the King's Coronation. Very genuine emotion and support.
I think the point is that Harry - and by extension Meghan - somehow believe that should continue to be their due.

MayaKovskaya · 29/05/2025 08:13

"I feel like he really never stood a chance on his own"
Harry isn't a victim here, although it's a narrative he likes to peddle. He's an adult who has made choices. He is wealthy, privileged, able bodied - he should be able to at least have a good life, a positive life. That he still wants to be royal and have that lifestyle and status is really the problem.
