The Era of Joy didn't last long.

This is going to be interesting, it's going to be a full on PR onslaught for the next few months, and then we will have Harry launching his very own 'commercial project'.

Clearly an article straight from the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, giving an exclusive to the DM.

Whenever I go to this section I always see adverts for Elizabeth Arden.

That's either clever advertising or top trolling.

If only Harry and Meghan could harness a bit of that.

I am getting them too 😂

Will eagerly anticipate the day As Ever pancake mix pops up. Feel like it might be a long wait.

foreverblowingbubbless · 25/05/2025 19:00

I've had the chance recently to ask Americans in person about Meghan and Harry and the reviews were not favourable. Mind you these were people more my age so not a target audience at such but certainly an affluent crowd.

jeffgoldblum · 25/05/2025 19:05

I’m unsure if that was supposed to be insulting or not! 🤷‍♀️
but if so it’s fallen rather flat ,
only pro h and m posters seem to find being called a “ fan “ the ultimate insult!
the rest of us consider actual insults offensive!

Well it's what you often say to posters who write comments that defend them..now here you are defending them..didn't want to miss out on the chorus of your a meghan fan 😉

You keep attributing others posts to me constantly! 🙄
It is not what I always say to posters defending Meghan.
please stop with the lies about my posts!
anybody posting here regularly or that looks at my posts know this is rubbish and you continuously posting it won’t make it true or gaslight others into seeing things that aren’t there!

Camilla also did not set out to purposefully denigrate the position to which she hoped to one day rise.

That is the key difference.

Harry and Meghan made the extraordinarily foolish decision to go around telling everyone that being Royal was really not all it was cracked up to be, that a life of Royal privilege was undesirable, nothing special, rather plebian. That being an heir to the throne of England was in fact, a disabling hindrance in life, a cause indeed of suffering. They spent a great deal of effort metaphorically disrobing themselves in public until like the boy in the Emperor's New Clothes, everyone could see they were naked.

Why didn't it occur to them that their major advantage to any future ventures, to their social and networking currency was their Royal mystique?

It's just plain stupid to try and sell bananas to the public whilst simultaneously saying that bananas suck! Same with your Royal status.

That this didn't occur to them a very long time ago when they decided to take the 'reveal the dirty laundry for cash' route is odd. That was always going to be a short term flash sale.

Now they gave realised that nobody wants to buy that anymore and they need to build back that Royal glamour.

But the spell has broken for them.

Camilla on the other hand could be rehabilitated because she still supported the idea of Royalty, allowing the Royal PR team to retrospectively create a narrative of the greatest love story ever told between a future King and his prior preferred, but lost bride. It has worked.

At this point Prince Andrew has more realistic prospects of rehabilitation in the UK with Virginia Guiffre's unfortunate demise than H & M

But Americans are less unfavourable towards them. It's possible a rebrand may have more traction there..

Americans may be (somewhat) less unfavourable towards them. But they are also much less interested in them. In America, they are competing in an overcrowded 'celebrity marketplace', with no obvious selling point, other than the one they so gleefully cast aside 5 years ago.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 25/05/2025 19:21

So I know they got lots of money in original deals, but those were 5 years or so ago.
What are they earning from now? Yes, MM has her coming shoe but she can’t sustain more than another two seasons of it?
There is no way As Ever is keeping them afloat.
The cost and staff and security alone must be huge.
Harry was brought up in a certain ‘system’ but probably wasn’t aware of the details or costs involved.
Even if they were worth 50 million or so it’d absolutely peanuts out there. The Beckhams are worth half a billion, and they aren’t in the top tier either.
In five years time this couple are going to be close to 50-odd. I don’t either of them has the work ethic or the ingenuity to deliver anything that is worth that much.

H&M's ratings have collapsed in the US. W is currently the most popular royal stateside with the highest positive (63) and net positive (63-10) +53 positive.

Catherine has a higher net positive (49-6) at +43 positive versus H (56-21) +35 positive. M is in the distant rear with (41-25) +16 net positive.

The PR team has an uphill battle with over one in five Americans having a negative view of H and one in four having a negative opinion of M. The more H&M expose themselves; the more negative public opinion about them becomes.

Americans rate Prince William higher than Harry, Charles in new poll

Good point.

Wundy · 25/05/2025 19:29

I can imagine the angle of this PR is if we look important then people will see us as important

But isn't this what they've been trying, and failing, to do all along? They've tried from day 1 to look relevant/important/royal/successful/joyful/relatabke/choose your own adjective.

None of it has worked. They've lost all credibility and it's going to take more than a team of new employees, unless they're magicians, to change how H & M are viewed.

You can't pretend to be something you're not indefinitely, you'll always be found out. Doesn't matter how much money you throw at it, or how many times you claim to be humanitarian or authentic or whatever other ridiculous claims they've made.

How can they not see this?

MrsLeonFarrell · 25/05/2025 19:44

People will only see them as important if they are important. Important people have power, political power or the power that comes with great achievements or business success. Harry and Meghan don't qualify under any metric as important.

NormaMajors1992coat · 25/05/2025 19:59

I remember reading once that Harry sees himself as a global statesman and expects to be regarded as such. Made me laugh, I mean surely even he is not that deluded.

I was just looking up that story and found this gem from his speech, again just 😂🤪😂

Founding a company doesn’t end with the birth of a child apparently 🤷‍♀️
Not to mention the fact that they NEVER see anything through 🤦‍♀️
Truly statesmanlike in every way.

“Parenting doesn’t end with the birth of a child. Neither does founding a company. We have a duty and a responsibility to see our creations through,” Harry said at the Clinton Global Initiative.

Yay we are back to popularity contests like being back at school.

No. Levels of popularity are very important in public figures and celebrities. Harry and Meghan want to be the latter. They want to make money. It's tricky when you don't have a good image and are not deemed trustworthy.

She said she's not a "fan" which is clear because she demonstrates reasonable judgement and fairness. So much so that she will defend them against some of the more ludicrous claims, as many of us will. It's having a fair approach, not being a "fan".

Poor woman, and betrayed in such a dreadful way. 😢
What a vile man.

Yep.

And let's not forget the speculation leaving it up to the likes of Liz Hurley to have to deny involvement 😡

NewAgeNewMe · 25/05/2025 21:11

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.
Abraham Lincoln

H & M need to take note!

My2cents1975 · 25/05/2025 21:54

We see people dismiss polling as a popularity contest...although all sorts of organisations use polling and polling is of particular importance to public figures.

As ever, reality is not a friend to Sussex super fans. So they lie. And then wonder why no one takes their arguments seriously.

My suggestion for Harry's cologne.
Highness.
Covers royalty, drug use and intensity of smell.

Ha. She calls me a fan and I've told her multiple times I'm not but she still continues to call me one.

So this is just me treating her in the same way she treats me.
