Would anyone like to join me in my attempt to unite the board and discuss our favourite royal outfits (before it enviably turns into another bun fight 🤣)

I’ll start with my favourite Catherine outfits first…

I'm 40 and I had a sailor dress in the late 80s, early 90s. But the same style on grown women is so strange!

I think Kate’s far too old for a bow in her hair. Looks silly.

I think bows are nice, whatever the age Blush

I do agree with the bow but when I was in my Laura Ashley sailor top era - this is the nearest I can find https://frockery.co.uk/products/laura-ashley-80s-vintage-white-sailor-blouse Too Sloane for words but we all did it , albeit we did not live with the sound of Sloane Square underground station - it was with that or Affleck's palace on the train who sold cropped dinner jackets I did have a selection of vintage hair bows. I also am old enough that I remember the bows you could clip on your shoes to jazz them up a bit. Actually I am minded to get another bow hair clip - because I am old enough I remember them fondly , I don't care if anyonone thinks it is frumpy & also my near neighbour who is French and dresses fabulously often wears one.
I am in my 7th decade and I shall wear what I choose - 😂😎 But enough about me. I realise I wasn't a fashion influencer in my youth - not then , not now 😂

My Laura Ashley Sailor dress was deep pink….

Emm. She also doesn’t wear well fitting bras

Neither do a very big percentage of the female population.

Or anything. Could be restricted to clothes

But it’s not because it doesn’t exist.

How do we know? Point is her clothes are very ill fitting. She is a small busted lady. No reason she shouldn’t have a well fighting bra. She was the money and she isn’t likely to have underwire either which is a large part of general discomfort.

she can dress wonderfully. Does she usually. No.

I agree with this. When she dresses well she looks amazing. But it’s such a rarity. Mostly because she doesn’t have anything tailored or fitted, so you often see her shape wear and underwear emerging from beneath her outfit, everything is too baggy and her trousers drag across the floor. I wish she would get a tailor or a stylist. She was so chic during her Suits and early Royal era.

That was because Charles paid for bespoke couture for her; Givenchy, Dior, Stella McCartney etc.

Her wedding dress was ill fitting. A lot of her outfits were then too. But in the UK for the nano second she worked she was often in coats. Also post maternity in belted dresses which I actually liked. Maybe she just looked better put together in the colder climate clothes.

Edited

I'm just commenting on the ones which fitted and looked smart and appropriate. I've no idea why a fashion house like Givenchy couldn't do a better fit with that wedding dress, or why the bridesmaids dresses didn't fit.
However, in the early days when she was a working royal, the bright yellow, red, green, blue and purple outfits looiked great; striking and a good fit.

My Laura Ashley Sailor dress was deep pink….

Deep envy - a dress not a blouse . - I had an allowance - by which I mean enhanced pocket money but I had to buy my own clothes , not a Lord Peter Wimsey style allowance enough to rent a flat in Belgravia with a butler type allowance - So I always chose wisely ( although one might say I didn't 😊.) I also had a black watch tartan ( or similar ) full skirt similar to this , www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155899621940?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5339055774&toolid=20006&_ul=gb&customid=Cj0KCQjw8vvABhCcARIsAOCfwwoFwJDnBbfTbKhYA7qJfzdecUrGS7xRHhW5u25naQf0LuyXA4EkJJ4aAob_EALw_wcB%7C0AAAAAC5ena3GnJybkPaPL-PdL8ykKxqnu%7CCj8KCQjw8vvABhDrARIuANkOEoFloCWcQYe4rdo4TLdgvl7ueL01Zr7xROXfLmMbSBEcwOdWQOA1GIlxqRoCDhU%7Cv1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8vvABhCcARIsAOCfwwoFwJDnBbfTbKhYA7qJfzdecUrGS7xRHhW5u25naQf0LuyXA4EkJJ4aAob_EALw_wcB&gbraid=0AAAAAC5ena3GnJybkPaPL-PdL8ykKxqnu&wbraid=Cj8KCQjw8vvABhDrARIuANkOEoFloCWcQYe4rdo4TLdgvl7ueL01Zr7xROXfLmMbSBEcwOdWQOA1GIlxqRoCDhU&gad_source=1 which I wore to take our dog for a walk on the beach. Reader, that skirt is no longer with us. Stones and salt and paws, but just to say those were different times 😂

upinaballoon · 11/05/2025 07:06

I think the sailor top has a look of 'early Di' about it.

Extiainoiapeial · 11/05/2025 07:24

Absolutely ghastly. Imagine paying 20 quid for a bit of ribbon and looking like a member of a cult that must wear headscarves or bows in their hair.

I knew a couple in the Plymouth Brethren, she always had a bow in her hair. He was my boss a long time ago

ARainyNightInSoho · 11/05/2025 08:10

A couple of other people have mentioned this. Sarah Chatto's wedding dress was the most beautiful have ever seen. Not just the dress, but the way the whole wedding was styled; flowers, bridesmaids etc. It is still stunning and has not dated. It would work for a wedding in 2025. I think she and her parents really have/had a great aesthetic eye.

I can't save or share any of the photos though, I wonder if other people have had the same issue. Do google them to see what I mean!

AuroraCake · 11/05/2025 08:11

I didn't like the outfit. Loved the skirt but jr would.have been much better with a boat necked black top. And a shorter plain jacket if needed. The outfit just made her look really really thin and old to be honest. She possibly needs to consider her hair.

Edit. Just seen it's a dress. A quilted or embroidered short jacket. Hair up. Much better.

Edit edit. I've just seen it is a blazer dress. Doesn't suit her but hair up.would.have been better

I'm thinking it's a bit of a stretch to link a woman choosing a hair accessory to the idea of membership of some fundamentalist Christian group! 😀

I agree entirely. It was exquisite. I love the way she dresses now too, she really has an innate sense of style

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 11/05/2025 12:43

Dare I admit that I’m not a big fan of Sarah Chatto’s dress 🫣

She looked gorgeous though. I love her hair and the flowers. And I agree that it definitely has a timeless air about it.

I think I must be into a more vintage style wedding dress as I love Catherine’s, Beatrice’s, Princess Grace of Monaco’s and Princess Margaret’s wedding dresses.

Fashion and style is so subjective. I love that we all have such a strong but individual definition of what style and beauty means to us 🥰

I wasn’t keen on Kate’s - too pointy in the boob area. I HATED Beatrice’s - it was awful.

I loved both of Meghan’s. Her day dress was beautiful in its simplicity and the evening dress was stunning.

JoyousEagle · 11/05/2025 14:45

I am also not a fan of Sarah Chatto’s. Something about it looks odd to me, I think where the sleeves meet the dress.

CurlewKate · 11/05/2025 15:09

I think Camilla’s wedding outfit was gorgeous. I liked Meghan’s day dress but not the evening one. And Catherine’s was a bit Barbie for me.

I agree, I loved the lace on Kate's dress but found the boob area a bit Barbarella.

I didn't like Beatrice's either, it was a lovely idea to remodel Granny's dress but it looked sooo old fashioned and it was too short.

I loved Charlene of Monaco's wedding dress together with Meghan's. Similar style boat neck. The embroidery on Charlene's was exquisite.

They all objectively looked good. These were expensive couture dresses. Anything else is personal preference. And of their time comes into it too. However, Anne and Eugenie's were really not to my taste. Other than that a sliding scale.beat4ice was always, to me, something magic though. Just the story behind it. The tiara.

That’s gorgeous.

I think this is a style that Meghan should have opted for. She has very broad shoulders compared to the rest of her slight frame. The boat neck was nice but I think it didn’t look right with the long sleeves. I get that they have to cover their shoulders for church weddings, so this is just the right amount of conservative modesty whilst still being glamorous and modern. Meghan had great arms at the time, I love her in a sleeveless tailored outfit.

I think that’s why I liked her halter neck evening dress so well. Although now others have pointed it out, I can see it too was baldy fitting. I was just too enamoured of the Diana aquamarine cocktail ring to notice 😍

Charlene of Monaco's wedding dress is gorgeous but again a bit pointy around the breast. Why are the dressmakers not getting this right?

NewAgeNewMe · 11/05/2025 21:12

Meghan’s dress was very similar to mine and as I got married nearly 30 odd years ago I like to say she copied me 🤩
